I'd love it if Max Redfield and Kevin Stepherson did a Notre Dame podcast together. 'Loon like A Champion' or something.

I don't mean to pick on you, but this type of rumor has to be the floor for this thread. Some of these rumors are better than recruiting news itself, and you just brought in a sack of potatoes. Let's ramp it up from here on out.

Who were the other strong candidates for the job in 2009? I recall Jack saying in an article this year/last year that the public still doesn't know who was actually interested.

Pretty sure Stoops was #1 option unless I'm mistaken.

I was told that Stoops was never a serious candidate for the ND job. But that loose phrasing could mean a lot of things.

I remember being on the old 4HL board and it was 2 pages for people convinced they saw Stoops throughout South Bend. He was apparently seen a lot at the South Bend Chocolate cafe.
This led to the ND flight logs being constantly checked.

I remembered hearing he wanted some exceptions each year and ND would not budge. Again this was 12 years ago so I have no idea if that was the case

Yea definitely skeptical, We were closer to getting Meyer in 2004 than Stoops in 2009

Something that I was wondering about from an r/cfb thread the other day: why does BK not handle rain well? NC State 2016, Michigan 2019. Is this just the collective fanbase making too noise on these isolated incidents? Or does BK actually not handle the weather well? Is he Bruce Willis' character from Unbreakable?

Just what the heck happened at Michigan??

I think the rain thing is making a mountain out of a mole hill largely due to the NC State game being a meme. We've had a few really good games in the rain under BK.

Based on comments made by reporters/insiders, I've inferred that the Michigan game was largely due to a massive failure by the staff and training department to appropriately adjust the training load of the team that week and the team largely had "dead legs" going into that game. We came out tired and sore, the weather took away our advantage (Claypool) and helped them exploit their biggest advantage (our front 7 was pretty small that year), they had a home crowd that smelled blood and they rolled.

I think you can also point to 2012 and 2014 Stanford games we both won that were in the rain, Clemson 2015 while we could have done a lot better that game was heavy rain and we were a 2 pt conversion away from tying.

Okay I recalled 2014 Stanford. The 2017 Navy game was another miserable close one, but I figured that was because that team was reeling

Or 2, 1 pt, conversions away...

That Michigan game, specifically, I heard was the "low point" of team morale that season (re: Chip Long). With Michael Young quitting the team right before the game, etc. I just think the staff was dysfunctional. The part I don't understand was the defensive collapse but I think they mentally checked out after it was clear the offense was a train wreck.

We lost the Clemson game in the TO department IMO not from the rain. The rain was bad as I have ever seen in my life in a hurricane prone region. It was a 1000 yr event. Bonkers. We should have won that game. No question.

Right, I think you can point to that Game and say it wasn't about playing poorly in the rain. Also that NC State game 2016 while the game plan was asinine, the game should not have been played in the first place.

You got that right. We could have ran the ball down their throats. Instead it was like BK was trying to prove that we could win just as easily by passing in a downpour.

I agree and I say this becasue the Clemson game wasnt windy or dangerous. The field was in great shape and not holding water and you could pass th eball easily. It was simply like being under a shower in your bathroom. Lots and lots of never ending rain for days. The NCST game was in a tropical storm with wind gusts and terrible field conditions. A running game was an absolute must and we ... AIR IT OUT LMAO.
