I honestly think Spindler needs time to really take on the weight properly. He's listed at 300, but I think he is gong to be transforming the body this year and offseason. Probably pack on weight, then dial it in. I'm not professional on this, but that's my guess why he isn't being looked at.

Why is everyone assuming Patterson won't return for a 5th year?

I believe general consensus going into the season was that he'd be one of the top 2-3 OC's off the board in the draft. Which probably puts him in the top 100. Even some comments about him being the top OC. It wouldn't surprise me if that's why they didn't end up moving him to another position. If that's true, he's probably taking that. Maybe things change on to that end, no idea on that.

II and Shamrock guys have made mention of him most likely going pro. No hard evidence, just general speculation

One of the Pods said that if the new OLine (they project there will be) coach is talented enough, they think there's a chance that he could stay to learn better technique / better production etc.

Likely just because coming into the season he was arguably already the best center in CFB. No one expected the line to be this shit which, ironically, may afford us an extra season with Patterson.

I'm kind of thinking the same. Since the line is such crap this year and if that's hurting his individual draft stock....maybe just maybe he comes back for his 5th year.

Given the circumstances, I've been a little surprised that Spindler hasn't seen any playing time yet. Maybe he's not developing as quickly as we thought?

Give him time. It really is hard to break in to the OL as a true frosh. You have to be an absolute freak like Big Fish, and/or you have to have some underlying issues with your upperclassmen. We certainly have the later.

I would put Alt in that absolute freak category as well.

Dude was insanely underrated as a prospect (though I understand why).

Carmody out of the OL depth chart for this one and moved to TE due to injuries and the targeting call.
Throw the big man a TD this week! I wanna see a fat man dance!

Perusing the LSU 247 site and this guy that’s been posting insider info on Ed O commented on the complete 180 on the run game over the weekend. Ed O credited some analytics staffer for showing him the data on their successful schemes and sets. The poster said the OL coach and OC had been wanting that for a while and Ed O wanted to do his thing. Pretty incredible how a couple small tweaks and probably handful of plays can completely change things. Or Florida just stinks.

I feel like this shit is becoming more common in basically every sport where "old school" coaches who are not willing to get with the times are getting left in the dust. I think you can also go too analytics heavy, and you have to strike a balance, but the ability to self-scout and put your players in position to succeed has never been easier with analytics/advanced stats.

Agree that you can get "Paralysis by analysis" and overuse analytics. But the old days of going by instinct can find a middle ground with analytics.

No CPA, I think, has even won a football championship.

You absolutely need both. You can't do things cold turkey one way or the other. So the guys getting left in the dust deserve it. Adapt of die.

The OL seems to have shown improvement, and regardless of who they are playing and what Kyren is doing. You can see it visually and with how they're grading out the last few weeks. I have never been a Jeff Quinn fan, but they need to hold the line for the next month and hopefully land whatever recruiting targets they have left for this cycle before February. I still feel that re-evaluation is needed at the end of the season, however.

BYU OC was the hot commodity hire for Baylor. I’d have to guess the OL coach Mateos he brought with him will be this offseason. Grimes and Mateos call their wide zone scheme “RVO”. Reliable Violent Offense. Baylor is a fun watch if you haven’t this season

I'd like to see if there has been a significant uptick in Madden's grades lately, and to see a comparison of Kristofic vs Correll.

I'd imagine Patterson's strong past few weeks is due to both (1) playing crappier d-lines and (2) better play on either side of him.

I definitely felt as though Patterson wasn't really playing that great himself early in the year. This may be due to a combination of things -- everyone on the line was new essentially, injuries on the line, etc. -- but I was a bit disappointed that it seemed like we struggle with communicating pass protections across the line as that's usually the center's job and Patterson was supposed to be our one sure thing on the line. Now it seems to be better, which I'm thankful for. Hopeful with everyone playing better we can continue to see improvement for next year's sake.

So where does the 3rd best center get drafted? 2nd day I'd guess. Probably high enough to pass on a 5th year.

Didnt BK say that Coan was making all the line calls vs UNC or maybe it was USC cant remember. Perhaps they took some of that responsibility away from JP.

I am both STUNNED and optimistic

In the first 5 games Notre Dame rushed for 404 yards, or 81 a game.
In the most recent five games, ND has rushed for 1042 yards, or 208 per game.
I concede that the schedule was front loaded with the quality defenses.

But STILL! a 120% in season increase in rushing yardage.

And, next year.

Fisher, Kristofic, correll, Spindler, Alt.

We will not walk into Ohio Stadium undermanned on the offensive line.

This is about to be fun.

It's a combination of the o line getting a little bit better and the schedule getting easier.

The OSU defense will eat our offense for breakfast. If the defense doesn't get burnt out the might be able to keep it close. This offense will not challenge OSU at all.

I'd feel better if the first OSU game was in 2023 tbh. The offense should be gold with all these freshmen by then, and the highly recruited 2022 class will have a year under their belt.
