take off your fried chicken tinted glasses son!
Kentucky always reminds me of Ron Zook's Illinois squads back in the day, they get decent enough recruits, do nothing for 3 years and then go well in the draft and then people wonder wtf are the coaches doing there that they cant get these guys to play cohesively as a team.
It's actually semi-perplexing. Kentucky does DB's, LB's and DE's really well... basically their whole defense is respectable on the basis of individual talent every year. But for whatever reason, they can't put it all together as a unit very often, and Stoops' air-raid is still struggling to get off the ground, which has created a storm of crappy football. Joker Philips didn't recruit nearly as well, but he actually got to bowl games, at least.
And I may be completely wrong, but idk if Drew Barker is the answer, either, in terms of getting UK's offense off the ground. The air-raid was supposed to mask the "transition" issues, but they've essentially been a boom-or-bust running team, just using air-raid formations. I'm thinking that Patrick Towles may have gotten a bad deal with how Stoops handled his time at UK. I hope he does well at BC.
Kentucky is like IU. They're basketball schools and no matter how much you put into the FB programs they can never get over the hump.
It's true. The apathy in the state of Kentucky for UK football is mind-boggling to me. I understand that basketball is the bread-winner and the claim to fame, but if even half of those UK basketball fans supported the football program, they would have an awesome fan base.
I know ND is *kind of* the opposite with the football/basketball dynamic, but I see more ND basketball fans among the football faithful, than I see UK football fans among the basketball faithful.
