The moral outrage towards 247 rears its ugly head again! Lads, it's college football recruiting.

If it was any other site I'd say the same exact thing (and have to others about Kelly and the Scout staff). It's not a 24/7 or Loy witchhunt, and not close to moral outrage. There is hint of a moral issue. It's simply a preference in pay site reporting and style when it comes to ND recruiting.

I agree with Ironman's point and it's very real. I also think that the ND coaching staff is not only aware of this but is consciously trying to keep some of this stuff under wraps. Think about some these visits that we are getting from prospects that have previously had very little ND talk surrounding them. More than likely by design.

Hey I'll gladly take my point and run haha. If I'm the most pessimistic about a topic then ND is in good shape. I'll shut up now.

No, you do make a good point. I just don't care as much about recruiting as before. It has gotten completely out of control imo. I just refuse to let these guys ruin my day anymore. I'm gonna love this team and school whether we go 3-9 or 14-0. Either way Saturdays in the Fall will consist of cold beer and ND football ;)

I bet it doesn't matter to Beal at all that Loy announced an uncommitted prospect might make a summer visit.

So you can raise a stink, but I don't think it matters. This kid isn't committed to a school or a Brady Hoke.

Well, then I would suggest you pay closer attention to other recruits around the nation. They are 17 year-old kids - the craziest shit matters to them. They're not exactly rational human beings all the time. Kids decommit or drop schools for all kinds of reasons, many of which are ridiculous. You can pretend it doesn't matter, but it absolutely does.

For example, last spring, Daelin Hayes visited ND and wanted to keep it on the down low. He was adamant that nobody find out. ISD knew about it, but they also knew it could hurt ND if it came out, so they didn't report it, before or after. They did the right thing for ND instead of breaking a huge news story. Had they leaked it, it could have absolutely damaged the recruitment, right or wrong.

Now, I have no idea what this situation is with Loy and Beal, but I will say that Ironman is absolutely right in saying it could affect a player's recruitment (right or wrong), and that Loy has pulled some shady, stupid shit in the past. So he's earned his reputation and people questioning his ethics.

I can. I'm telling him realx. He's looking at something that's 99% likely to not matter at all, and drill g down to worst case scenario. So again, relax.

I think not. Otherwise why continue responding? Give it a rest and I bet IM does as well.

The thing is: There are only two directions from which a reporter like Loy is going to hear about a visit like this.
One is from within the football program, which I assume (perhaps wrongly) is fairly locked down and so only leaks what it wants to. If they're leaking sloppily that's on Kelly.

The other is from the recruit's camp. And if Beal (or his family/whoever) are the people telling Loy he's going to visit Notre Dame than Beal's probably fine with it and it not going to change his mind because of some 247 blog post.

As for neg recruiting from other coaches, if the kid's serious about Notre Dame other programs are going to know it no matter what Loy writes. Especially with nine months until Signing Day. That's big-time recruiting.

No matter who he roots for, I still can't figure what Loy did wrong here.

247 is still boycotted from myself for their last bullshit ordeal from Oregon.

Boycott their asses and cancel their shit and it'll get their attention.

On #1, reporters find things out from places inside the football program that are not sloppily leaked. Reporters know players and they find out things. Good reporters then go to their sources (coaches) and ask for confirmation and if the info is too sensitive to publish. And this way they keep the relationship strong. Loy broke stuff that wasn't supposed to be known on more than one occasion.

Why does he keep getting the info if he's messed up multiple times?

You would think he'd get blackballed and that the coaches would make it very clear, "don't talk to this guy without going through us or the SID."

If you say it out loud and it doesn't make sense, it probably doesn't make sense. Loy doesn't screw up over and over like some people like to say.

He knew he was changing a CB to ND for a current kid in our 2015 class, and the kid ask that he hold out for a week, and Loy did. Loy's not a bad guy or a detriment to ND.

Fuck Loy.

He's a freshman that's not being RS'ed because we are hoping he's gone in 4.

So, after reading all of this, did Beal say that he wasn't coming because of the CB/article about him coming to the Irish Invasion, or is this just all to bash Loy? It is nice to see the "Joe Schmidt is the devil" campaign take a few days off!!

I never said he reported stuff the SID told him not to. I was talking about against the wishes of the player, or even just reporting stuff based on what a player said, but in complete contradiction to what the situation actually is, when simply doing a little digging (in ethical terms, I believe it would be a big word called “corroboration”) would confirm the truth.

If you say it out loud and it doesn't make sense, it probably doesn't make sense. Loy doesn't screw up over and over like some people like to say.

Once again, you literally know nothing about a situation, but as you always do, act as if you do know. You don’t. Hear no evil see no evil. Name a reporter that you know, personally, that can refute any of the things said about Loy’s reporting style. You never even had a subscription, and would just beg people for info on this site, and suddenly proclaimed Loy was the best simply because he wrote a lot of tweets or whatever stupid reason you came up with (when in reality, as you always do, you try to play the martyr to guys who get ripped for poor performance, which is what happened with Loy).

Unlike you, I don’t make shit up out of thin air, and I don’t talk about things that I don’t know about. I’ve known probably about 6 to 7 reporters that cover ND football (a couple no longer cover the team). To a man, they have great stories about Loy – and they aren’t flattering. I’ve told this one before. A couple of years ago I was helping a well-known ND reporter move to a place in Mishawaka. I get there, and he’s talking to Tony Alford on the phone. Apparently a no-name 3 star recruit in FL claimed on twitter that ND had offered him. Loy jumps on it, tweets out that he had a scoop that ND had a new offer out to a WR in FL, and that he’d have a full story soon on 24/7. So Alford calls my friend and asks him if he knows anything about this recruit and gets a run down of what of is going on, because Alford wasn’t even recruiting this kid. Long story short, my friend has to go online and post that his “sources” have told him that ND is not recruiting this WR and that in fact he does not have an offer.

There’s more (MANY more) stories than this about Loy, but why waste them on you? You won’t believe them anyway. Truth is, Loy works VERY hard, has some good sources, but is also one of those reporters that will do anything to get the story, and get the story first (sometimes whether he is right or wrong). He’s “slick” and untrustworthy, is what one person told me, and has earned a poor reputation on the beat – not out of jealousy but born from some of his actions.

Some people just have nothing to do with life. Loy's done nothing wrong, Beal is coming to II, go find a different thread to go dance on your coals. Let us celebrate the good news, take your vitriol to another thread please.

Love the passion but to get this worked up over something like that Is silly and even more silly given recent events. Chill. If Beal comes awesome, if he doesn't life goes on.

Can we move the Tom Loy debate over to off-topics formerly found in recruiting? The Beal update is the best news we've had in weeks and I'd like to keep the good juju flowing.

If we're somehow able to turn this thing around and land Beal, my opinion on our 2017 recruiting class will skyrocket. We've already landed some kids that we should all be ecstatic about in Wright, Kmet, Werner, Lugg and Adams, but the lack of an immediate impact pass rusher has been dogging us for a few cycles now. Would absolutely love to see a healthy Daelin Hayes and Robert Beal bookending our D-line for 2-3 years.

I get where you're coming from about the SID, so maybe I wasn't clear. Your OP mentioned that Loy has reported stuff that wasn't supposed to be "known" several times.

My question, straight up, is why do people keep telling him these things from inside the program (or even via recruiting) if they don't want it out there?

I know the coaching staff isn't going to keep feeding info to an unreliable source, but why aren't BK and the SID making it very clear to everyone else (players, managers, GA's, etc.) and saying "hey, this guy has a history of putting info out there that is supposed to be on the down-low... so don't give him that info."

BK doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would let a reporter like Loy continue to mess with his operations without some consequences, so I'm just wondering why Loy hasn't basically been blackballed by his sources in the program.

THANK YOU! Getting a second chance on a 5* at a huge position of need and it turns into an anti-Loy shouting match. Sheesh.

Still have a couple of needs, still desperately need free safeties and could use a blue chip 3-tech, but a player like Beal is one of the biggest missing pieces of the last few classes.

Yeah, and you've been a member here since 2011. 2014 minus 2011 = 3 years of you posting. Math is fun. Do better ace.

As for vitriol – LOL. I barely started on you. You know nothing, and can’t handle it. I merely pointed that out, and like always, you couldn’t refute a thing. Peace.

The South has a strangle hold on hometown recruits. It's great news about Beal, but some of you either don't know recruiting, or are refusing to acknowledge the hurdles ND must overcome to land Southern kids. Flying under the radar is almost always preferred.

Think back to Chris Brown and how his family had to talk up SC just to get the locals off their back, yet Mr. Brown always came on here and calmed nerves that Chris was, in fact, all ND. Families probably have to do this stuff all the time to keep the local pressure to a minimum.

Sports writers have a job to do, but if they want to be good at it, sometimes that involves not breaking stories to be first, but sitting on news in order to achieve the "better story" down the road. Leaked info has hurt ND in the past, multiple times. It's just not worth the risk.

There is a debate between Koon and Ironman in which there is even a debate on who is right?

Is this the Twilight Zone?

Serious question, Loy reported that committed DE Hunter something, a UCLA commit from California is visiting for II.

Why are people not freaking out about Loy reporting that? UCLA has owned us in neg-recruiting, and this kid is actually committed, unlike Beal.

Trying to understand the madness.

Because that kid has not made his interest in ND a secret.

There is reason to believe that the Beal camp (and/or ND) wanted his communications with ND to stay under the radar.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Beal, who openly says ND is his dream school and once openly committed to ND is trying to keep his interest in ND a secret?

Is that the narrative we've spun? Because it sure doesn't seem like he's trying to keep it a secret at all. It sounds like a secret, only the opposite.

ND was "eliminated" in the public eye. No one knew ND was back in on the recruitment until Loy's crystal ball, and that's when the rest of the services revealed their info.

Ironman straight up told you that he had reason to believe that ND and the Beals wanted the fact that ND was back in to be kept under wraps.

Is that clear enough yet?
