Don’t you worry. Yellen will have a career game and go something like 21-24 for 270 yards and 2 TD’s along with 60 yards rushing and a TD...sigh

I certainly hope so, but it just gives BK the opportunity to say, I told you so. All I want is consistency, a team to prove they deserve the ranking. Right now no one believes ND is deserving of #3. Can’t say I disagree. Last week I was so disgruntled with Book that I failed to realize that the defense was having a good game, aside from the fact that we weren’t trailing on the board.

I also don’t care if we blow someone out by 70 points. I would like them to look the part of a dominant team. I don’t think we hang with Bama in the manner that Ole Miss did, and this is Kiffins first season there. BK needs to stop making his typical bs remarks after games and start putting it together. He’s paid handsomely to do so.

If Book doesnt take this opportunity to bring his A game, after all the grief and scrutiny from last game, the he just flat out sucks. He should be the most motivated person on the field to show that LVille game was a fluke. If he cant, boys, we are in all kinds of trouble against Clemson and Miami.

What’s really irritating about Book is whenever there is a do or die situation on a 3rd down Book is money. He did it a few times last game where it’s third and medium to long and he goes through his progressions, steps up in the pocket and delivers a strike for the first down to the WR. He did it on the last drive of the game to ben skowronek. And the 3rd down and long pass to Austin for the would be TD was a dime...Austin has to do a better job of dragging his toes/foot and complete that catch. That would have been a give me for Claypool.

I'm not buying it until game time lol. Narduzzi has no love for BK, and that report was on Monday.

It wouldn't surprise me if that was gamesmanship, and Pickett's ankle is fine and ready to run around on. Whoever is calling the game is gonna do their pregame intro on ABC, then say "and how about this... Pickett is gonna suit up and play today" while showing him warming up his arm on the field prior to kickoff.

Oh I agree. And it was reported Narduzzi was coy with the media prior to Miami about Pickett:

“I knew earlier in the week, guys,” Narduzzi said. “I obviously didn’t want Miami to know. I wanted them to have to prepare for whatever. Maybe they had a clue. But we knew earlier in the week.”

https://pittsburghsportsnow.com/202...notre-dame-for-sure-will-return-vs-fsu-nov-7/

Maybe he is a game time decision. The Irish Illustrated crew were the most recent to comment on the likely starter.

https://247sports.com/college/notre...re-Dame-Football-Press-Conference--153395524/

I had read some other Pitt related news Pickett was unlikely and Yellen was getting all the practice reps. So, grain of salt/Trojan Horse. Haha we’ll see.

Joey Yellen is completing less than half of his passes at 6.0 yards per attempt (and has -39 yards rushing from four sacks). Their starting RB is averaging 2.8 yards per carry this year.

This is a bad Pitt offense when their best player is healthy. If this game is anywhere near close then I'm worried.

Brah, this is Pitt. Expect it to be close, because 9 times out of 10 since 2000 it's been close. Doesn't matter how bad Pitt stinks in a given year, they live for the spoiler role in this contest. I know it's always said that we get a team's "A" game, but that's truer for Pitt than just about any team. They know they stand little to no chance to get to a January bowl each season, so this becomes their bowl game. That's what their players have said in the past.

This is where I (somewhat) get irritated with Book. When it's 2nd and 5,6,7,8 or 9... it's a called passing play and he has a lane when nothing is open and forces something instead of getting ANY yards on a rush up field.

If it's 3rd down and the same yardage mentioned.... he gains 12...

That's what mesmerizes me about his decisions based on 2nd and/or 3rd down.

For real. We should pray that we play Miami, because that only happens if November 7 is a W and Clemson stumbles another time, letting Miami play in the Conference Championship game.

Joey Galloway loves him some Pitt tomorrow. I expect Book to play well and the receivers to have good games. Need to get Mayer and Tremble involved more as well. Any "soft tissue" reports?

I think if Book and the skill players can avoid turnovers or at least turnovers like a pick-6 or in + territory, the ND defense should hold the Pitt offense to fewer points than the Pitt D holds the ND offense.

Unless the offense finally clicks in the pass game, I suspect the only way ND scores over 30 points is with a defensive score.

As Bonzie Colson said about the ND basketball team his sophomore/junior seasons ND needs to be "road warriors" for this game.

This game concerns me as it is our first road game of the season and I have more concerns on offense then defense. Our offense will need a passing game, I will be shocked if we have a running back get over 100 yards. I want to see Book and our WR's step it up. Our TE's could play a big role.

Our D gets us out of trouble, I want to see our offense do some work.

Go Irish!

Watched a replay of Pitt/Miami...Pitt's d is good, it kept them in the game and made D'Eriq King look pretty bad. In fact, without the t/o's the d forced Pitt wouldn't have scored a TD, their only one was on a one yard drive after a pick.

DE's are really good, Eich and Hainsey better bring it. They do overpursue and were vunerable to end arounds and counters. Miami got most of their yards passing on screens and passes to their RB and TE.

Offense is bad. Biggest problem is none of their RB's are even average. Yellen can't run a lick but he is pretty good at recognizing when he's going down and throwing the ball away. Yellen can hit the short and intermediate passes if he has time. Addison is the best reciever, he can get open, catches everything and makes the first guy miss. We have to find a way to put Hamilton on him.

OL didn't impress but they were up against a top unit in Miami's DL. RT # 53 looks like the weak link.

Overall we should beat these guys but it could look a lot like the Louisville game.

he has had a significant amount of drops this year....i believe around 5-7 if i remember correctly

yeah a quick google search and here is the 1st headline from the pitt paper 1 day ago

Jordan Addison thriving, but dropped passes are holding back Pitt's offense

i apologize this article is talking about the collective team with drops but i have read like i mentioned above between 5-7 just from him

It's time to break the mold of close games with Pitt. I think we roll tomorrow.

Really? That'd surprise me. Jamie and Mike at ISD said 175 yards rushing total would be a great sign on the podcast.

Pitt’s front seven is allegedly excellent. There was a PFF stat that they give up the fewest yards before contact in the country.

To make my point clear.... I have ACC network channel on Direct TV (only because Irish is in ACC this year) so, I've recorded each game. The Pitt run-defense is the best in the ACC allowing 61/62 yards a game rushing.

Miami -40
BC -71
NC St. -23
LV -40
'Cuse -41
Peay -22
These are loss in rush yardage per game.

Games in reverse (Peay was first, of course Miami last week)... everyone of these teams with the exception of Austin Peay and NC St. are 'Air Show' teams.....

What I think is one of the most skewed stats in CFB is a sack is considered a loss in rushing yards. Pitt's defense is suspect to a good O'Line.

I believe Pitt is going to follow suit and stack the box giving up some passing lanes then have to back up. I believe this is the game where Rees has realized that 6-7 in the box is going to lead to slants, stints, and screens making Pitt back off and Williams is going to have a hell of a game.

you re darn right Pitt has a good defense and as someone who grew up in western Pa they will be ready so for me it all depends on Book and the receivers-i dont think they run the ball well saturday but they must win this game if they are for real a playoff team-another super bowl game for a team that thinks this is a rival game!

Pitt's front 4 is good, linebackers are okay, secondary is spotty.

ND is going to run it and it will probably not be successful early on, but Pitt's defense is going to wear out because Pitt's offense is horrendous and will consistently put them back on the field with little rest. ND is the more talented and more importantly, the team with more depth all around.

Pitt's top 4 DL are about as good as you'll find, but they can only go for so long before they begin to wear down.

DL depth they got, in a big way. They played 10 DLM vs Miami and they all looked like the same guy; tall. not heavy for a DLM (250-270) and fast. They really attack the LOS and get negative plays.

The other poster is right about Pitt's run D. Its not super great. They lead the nation because there is a lot of sack yardage. We should be able to run it on them if we use misdirection.

Sounds like Book and the passing game need to show up. If that’s the case, I expect a close, frustrating game. We’ve been good at winning those the last 4 years.

Just posted this in the JJ thread, but probably deserves to be here....

Watching Game Day. They just talked about ND/Pitt.

Pretty much said ND isn't a top 5 team, and the passing game needs to improve.

Herb said something like "Book is fine, they need to develop the young WRs"......
