Hey I am not trying to BS anyone. I know that the true veer started with split backs I also know that it did start with it being a wider option. But it has eveolved some, and my high school did run an inside veer with I formation. It was based off the read on the dtackle(d-end in 3-4) for the give. While the hole was the 4 or 3 hole (between tackle and guard) the give itself was tight off the guard's butt. It seemed to me that Navy ran that instead of a traditional midline between guard and tackle.

PS. New to this how do I PM here?

Well, I taped the game. Did not see fullback veering that wide. Seemed right twixt C and G. But like I say, if you want to discuss, I'll check video and we can p.m. DLIne was vanilla (again, at a quck glance) and simply got spanked. I thought they could have used more interior slants, shifts, and crosses with backers. They were sitting ducks. Reaks of a coaching staff inexperienced with covering any form of option. I'll take veer and bone or double slot option over that crap spread anytime. Hate that backs run sideways to get a handoff then have look over and find a hole. That's just me. I hate the spread, although I know it works for so many. Just not ND this year.

It wasn't just a week. We had been preparing, apparently, for a couple weeks for the option. Instead it looked like we never saw it before.

Agree. The defensive coaches should watch film of teams who have been sucessful
defending against the option. Whay happened today should never happen again.

They rather respect the pass than put 8 up on the line..

To be fair, Navy's passing game has a tendency to rip open opponents once they do exactly that. Even in limited action, it was 2/2 without the pass interference, 3/3 with it.

Our mistakes made them look and feel much better than they really are.

That was what bothered me more than anything else in terms of schematics for this game. Both of our safeties were lined up like we were playing the Peyton Manning Colts or something the entire game. That and Navy consistently pushing our lines around.

Than so be it.. Make Dobbs beat us with his arm than sustain a long drive..

Worse part about losing to Navy AGAIN is that Maryland, Louisiana Tech, Wake Forest and SMU all scored more points on Navy than ND did.

Better yet, Air Force only gave up 6 points to Navy and even better yet Navy BARELY beat a Georgia Southern team. NOT Georgia, Georgia Southern.

This is an alltime low for Notre Dame.

Not that its much consolation, but a few things can explain that.

Air Force runs a very similar option to Navy, and obviously AF had a bit more of a edge to them in trying to break AF's streak.

GA Southern runs the exact same offense as Navy, complete with a former Navy assistant at the helm.

In terms of play calling today, Jasper was on fire. There were a few plays I'd never seen or not seen in a long time. The WR Reverse Pass was new, and screens are few and far between.

Here's the icing on the cake for you guys before I put this navy game to bed mentally and on here. Went to Mass this morning and our pastor had this to say:

"Folks, I went to the game at giants stadium and it was crazy. 80,000 Catholics poured in to watch Notre Dame and by the time it was over I think 50,000 were Protestant."

I laughed.

Saint Teresa was going in her horse cart in the rain to do some charitable work, when the wheels hit in a rut and tossed her out into the mud beside the road. Wiping the goo off herself she exasperatedly looked up to Heaven and shouted :Why me, Lord!! A voice came out of the clouds to her saying: because you are my friend, Teresa. Teresa, not in a spiritual mood, replied: THAT, Lord, is why you have so few!!!

Navy pulled some votes in both coaches and the AP poll. ND was by far the toughest roadblock left, so might be a nice end to the season.

Good luck to ND the rest of the way. Beat Army!

Not sure this has been mentioned in the 650+ posts in this thread but... Navy isn't a bad football team. We played like **** but they are not the team we dominated for years. They have been playing good football for the last couple seasons and even beat Missouri (who by all measures were bigger and stronger) in a bowl game last year.

Navys Qb if not in the navy would be running the offense down at GT. he is very good at this offense. We will see if these players can come back strong like after the loss to stanford. And guys a i know that a loss is a loss but we did lose to Mich state on a last min fake FG becasue the defense was fooled and we gave Mich thats game so yes we did take home the L's in though games but they learned a little more about this team and i think we will learn something this weekend as well.

Should be noted that Dobbs was offered a scholarship as a WR to GT back when Johnson was at Navy.

I agree. Navy is a good, sound football team and anyone who thinks otherwise is just delusional. They are capable of beating anyone on any given day. I hate losing to them though, but at least we lost to a better football team because I really think they are better than us at this point. We played poorly against a good football team and the result is that we lost. There is always next year.
