Some of the signs are there for this game having potential to get really ugly. Hopefully he's wrong.

We were supposed to absolutely get smoked by Oklahoma in 2012. Beat them 30-13. The line was about 2 TDs heading into that game.

Anyone who thinks this FSU team is substantially better than ND hasn't been watching. Their result against NC State was equivocal to ours against UNC. They played Syracuse arguably worse than we did. They struggled mightily with an average Oklahoma State team. They got INCREDIBLY lucky to beat Clemson... but that was sans Winston.

They have two comfortable victories... Wake Forest and Citadel. And against Wake Forest the score was only 3-0 FSU about 29 minutes into the game.

As already noted, they're 1-5 ATS this year. They have not looked even close to the team they were last year.

I really hope McElroy & Co. keep blowing sunshine up their ass because the one common thread with FSU this entire year has been they're exceptionally overconfident coming into every game, start slow, and make a LOT of mistakes. I really, really hope they believe that they're going to walk over us... what we desperately need to avoid is them chomping at the bit and amped up for the game a la Clemson last year.

Last thing I'll say is I don't know how healthy they're going to be heading into this game but they've generally been banged up this year, and their OL has been trash. That's where we'll win or lose this game... pressuring Winston and stopping their poor running game.

FSU has only blown out 2 teams this year, WF and the Citadel and they've "embarrassed" no one yet.

To add to that Jimbo Fischer is a great oc and he now have the blueprint to our defence. Van Gorder have his wrk cut out for him.

The offensive style of FSU and UNC are not similar at all. There is no way that FSU comes out and goes uptempo to the same degree the UNC did. Plus, UNC is a pass first offense and their QB is the leading rusher. That is not FSU either. JF may have learned a few things from the UNC game, but FSU cannot replicate UNC.

BVG has his work cut out for him, but the defensive game plan will be completely different going into this weekend.

Yes this morning. McElroy said he likes ND and has them at #4. But, he thinks FSU just has a ton more talent on their team than Nd. Also, thinks FSU will wake up and have a break through game.

What sucks is the AP voters just put a chip on their shoulder.

No kidding.

Seriously, my only reservation for this game is that they come out more motivated/focused than they have for other games this year. Last year you saw them flip the switch for certain games (most notably Clemson... cuz Clemson players started talking smack before the game).

I do not believe that they are a well coached team.

I disagree. Outside of Boston College, they flat out stomped everybody identically. There was no switch flipping.

Let's not throw stones. Just imagine if the frozen 5 would have been cleared. To be the best, beat the best.

He is about to go under disciplinary hearing and is still playing. If you want to compare the situation to the Frozen 5, you would be remiss to not bring up the glaring difference that our players sat out throughout the entire process. Meanwhile, Jamies gets to go on as normal.

Completely untrue. But OK.

Against Pitt, Miami, and Florida their offense started relatively slow. Pitt hung around within 4 points for 28 minutes, Miami was down only 7 at half, and Florida was down only 3 nothing for 26 minutes. These were flat out mediocre-to-bad teams too... and by being lackadaisical/mistake prone they let teams hang around before hitting their groove.

And then against Auburn, they were getting boat raced to start the game. People talk about us starting slow sometimes... Florida State did it in 5/14 games last year, and 3/6 games this year. So it's an issue for them too.

But, if you paid attention to the Clemson game last year where Clemson came in ranked #3 to FSU's #5, FSU came in fired up because they felt disrespected. That Clemson team was a good ball club and FSU played their best game of the year because they were motivated. So if you're going to get to them you have to get to them early... which really means you have to have them come out slow... which means you sure as hell don't want them motivated by polls or Game Day or whatever other external motivation gets them amped up. You want them -- ideally -- to treat us as much like a Wake Forest as possible.

I can assure you that FSU will be just as excited for this game as we all are. If we are going to win we are going to have to beat their best.

Totally agree that a paper and sexual assault are drastically different. The media would react as if it were the same though.

Disregard my above statement, I got mixed up thinking about how they keep letting Jameis play. My bad...

I'm not even referring to the accusations themselves. If we look at it in a vacuum, the Frozen 5 have one common situation with Winston. They both are dealing with their university's disciplinary committees. In Notre Dame's version, all players were immediately removed from the team. In FSU's version, they stay on the field.

It's just a drastic difference in how each university handles their business. At Notre Dame, Winston wouldn't even still be on our team. The alleged rape wouldn't even be the only reason good enough to kick him out. His autograph accusation, his theft of crab legs and definitely the BB gun wars would have all gotten him reprimanded. It's all swept under the rug at FSU.

edit - Just saw your other comment. I'll leave my post above just as a side note. Sounds like we're on the same page though.

You kinda defeated your own argument. You said they came ready for Clemson, but not for Auburn or Miami. I'm sorry, but you're basically saying they came out slow for 2 of their 3 biggest opponents that year. I never argued that FSU came out slow, because they did, but I was arguing that they ran over pretty much everybody outside of Auburn and Boston College.

Leaning more towards the OU game, since FSU isn't nearly as good as that Alabama team, nor did they have all that prep time. In addition, ND is better than the ND team from '12.

I would certainly hope we have a better chance this weekend than we did in the '13 NCG... I think a team of fifth graders would have a better chance at betting a team of All-IE athletes than we did in that game...

ND will stay with them if they can have decent pass defense and limit turnovers. I know I know that is obvious. But FSU isn't blowing teams out like last year. I predict Cam to have a big game.

Anyone else feel that if...eerrrr...when ND wins the national pundits will say FSU isn't that good this year.
