With the transfer of Alex Bullard, ND is now in dangerously thin water regarding our OL needs for the next couple recruiting classes. We are going to need a minimum of 4 solid players in each of the next two classes.

For this reason, I wondering if Kelly would make a couple offers to new kids. Especially, players who have shown interest in the past. I know he is chasing the OT who is committed to UMichigan and Chase Hounsell again, but what about Flavin's brother. He is a three star OT that just committed to Illinois. What about Jordan Walsh, he is a 4 star guard committed to Iowa. He is from Illinois, so midwest guy. He has offers from Duke and Northwestern, so presume his academics are in order. Anyone know about these two??

If we land Lynch that'll give us 3 currently and I'm thinking we'll get 1 more more before NSD. It'll be all good

don't worry. Springman, Carrico, Hegarty, and Hanratty will serve as 4 o-linemen for us, especially if Lynch commits to us. That's gives us 4 quality o linemen and 2 outstanding DE's in this class.

I think OL is in better shape than most realize. Plus Niklas is a very real possibility.

I assume we are still recruiting Zach Martins brother Nick, Hounshell, and Fisher. If we get any piece of Lynch, Scarlett, and Niklas...look for one or both of Carrico and Springmann to switch to OL. Bruce Heggie could also switch over since he would be further down the depth chart on defense.

After this crazy week finishes we will have a better understanding on scholarships available. However it works we will end up with 85 recruited players on scholarship (not just extras thrown to former walk ons). The last time we could say that may have been around 10 years ago...crazy.

Carricco played Oline this year in HS. Rumor he was that it was to gt ready for college. Makes sense. At his hs they they two platoon. He only played goal line d.

BTW could not find a thread and did not know how to start one but is Kenton Playko (2012) mentioned anywhere? He is from Ohio and has visited twice. Came to the Michigan and Utah game. He performed very well last year at their camp. He has not been offered yet. He is 6' 6" 265 as a junior. Very athletic for a tackle. Perfect for the spread. Oregon has shown some interest in him along with Duke and some MAC schools.

O line should always, always be a concern to cfb coaching staffs... maybe the most ciritcal part of the team in fact... by as of right now the thinest unit is our secondary imo.... must get some more talent and numbers back there... at this time next year it gets real thin, real fast

Springman definitely has the physique to be on the OL. If Lynch and Tuitt sign on then that will be inevitable.

As long as we avoid the disaster that was 4 OL in three years under Willingham, we can't hit a complete low.

Springmann and Carrico will and should be O-Lineman.

They're both average d linemen, but good o linemen. both provide depth and versatitlity to play either center or guard.

they will both prolly come in along the d line, but shift to the offense before their sophomore years.

i got to watch hanratty play this past year and would not expect him to be of much help early. he seemed slow and without much fire. held alot and was beaten badly by a stronger quicker kid.

he may end up being a good OL he has the size but as of right now i wouldnt put too much faith in him.

It looks like we have the possibility of 13 returning Olineman next year. (Golic, Robinson, Cave, Watt, Martin, Nuss, Tansey, Clelland, Lombard, Mahoney, Nichols, Dever, and Hernandez) with Wenger looking for a Medical Hardship so it can be 14.

Then we lose--Robinson, Cave, Nuss, Dever, and possibility Wenger if he gets that additional year.

We possibly add Matt H. and Conner H. Not hugely deep, but not quite as bad as people think. And if we get any additional Olineman this year, it would really help. Losing James hurts in many ways--team wise and family wise. If we could possibly snag 1 more lineman or even 2 more Olineman we are in great shape. Losing Bullard was pretty bad, it would have really set us up to move onto next year strong. But, Lombard I guess is a monster and Martin was great this year and he has 1 year of playing under his belt.

So, Martin/Lombard/Cave/Watt/Robinson is an awesome line. With Golic/Nichols/Clelland/Conner/Matt H waiting in the wings. Then the year after Martin or Matt Heg/Lombard/Golic or Cave??/Hanratty or Watt/Matt H or Martin

Just some ideas.

Are you sure we lose Cave after next year?? I think he still has two years of eligibility...not 100% sure.

Robinson will be back at guard next year as well not tackle. I think Dever and Romine are locks for 5th years, but Nuss will be the odd man out.

With the arrival of Lynch, Kelly has the flexibility not only to put Carrico on Offense [which he trained for his whole High School season] but swing Springmann over if that is needed. We are now "good" with our O-line class---something I severely doubted a month ago. Kelly, the masterworker, has created quality and versatility again. [The guy never ceases to astound me---what a blessing for ND].

Dever already stated he is back for a fifth year, he got into Grad school. So that is done with he also said he is pretty sure Nuss and Romine will join

Relax... we need to see how Watt and the rest of the new guys transition to the line.

Next year, Kelly can snipe at the top three or four best OTs and get one to bite.

We're fine. Relax. Seriously.

I think next year we aggressively pursue some OL and a running back. I am happy with where we are sitting at the moment and just want to lock this class up. We really needed to add some depth on the defensive side of the ball and we have done that quite nicely with this class. As mentioned before we can swing a guy or two to the offensive side as needed.
