ESPN is usually pretty savvy about which games to show and when. But this seems very dumb. Stanford has no fans and most of ND’s live in the eastern half of the country.

ACC wants less eyes on ND. ESPN still gets some eyes on 9:30 slot.

Why did they make him look like a private in the Union Army circa 1863?
It was an ongoing bit on Twitter when Luck played in the NFL because he looks like a union general with his beard. So someone would post weekly as if he was writing home from the front lines based on the results of the Colts game.

So if I pay for 1 day of sling orange and not start it till 8 pm est does that mean I get it till 8 pm est on the next day? Just thinking how to get this game when I’m at relatives.

If he was General they’ve got the hat and uniform all wrong.

I would at least hope someone pays up and gets the team and staff another night at the hotel for after the game. Gotta be better than arriving back in South Bend at 6am right?

I wonder if they will do something along the lines of going there on Thursday morning and eating Thanksgiving dinner in CA with the families just so they have a couple nights there to adjust to the Pacific time zone clock. I feel like they did that once or twice when Kelly was coach.

JFC, can we PLEASE get non-rival Stanford OFF THE DAMN SCHEDULE NOW AND FOREVER.

There is absolutely no benefit to playing that slapdick program.
I don't know, seems like a great opportunity to meet our bedwetting quota. "I'm pretty worried that the Irish won't be able the handle the late start. This is the last game the committee sees before the playoffs and they might blow it!!!"

Outside a pandemic that cancelled the 2020 game, the ND-Stanford game has been played 34 straight years. And it's produced some great games in the history of both programs.

Is it the same level of rivalry as ND-USC? No. But, it's a game that has gone back and forth many times during the series and only is a lame duck recently due to how porous of a team/program Stanford has been.

And, it keeps ND active in California, which could be up in the air with USC trying to get out of the annual ND-SC game.

It's a late-night game. Get over it and have an espresso shot after dinner.

Years ago when I played a college football game. Where talking 2004ish. I used to set ND up with what I considered the traditional schedule:

The trophy games:
USC
Michigan
Michigan State
Boston College
Stanford
Navy
Purdue
Northwestern

What I viewed as most common opponents:
Army
Miami
FSU
Georgia Tech

Maybe this schedule says something about my generation, however, I always felt Stanford was part of it.

Just because something happens 34 times doesn’t make it good. It’s not. And there isn’t anything you can say to make it so.
You want to be in California? Ok, play California instead, I guess. We don’t need it, though. At all.

I remember a time before we started playing that slack jaw program. They are not a part of Notre Dame Tradition, they are not a rival. They are nothing.

My man, 34 years in a row pretty much is a tradition. Maybe not a 100-year rivalry like USC, but calling it “nothing” is just because Stanford’s been bad lately.

And let’s be real: if Stanford was still a Top-25 team like they were for a long stretch, you wouldn’t be acting like this game is beneath ND. The rivalry didn’t magically stop existing just because they hit a rough patch.

ND and Stanford are two of the top academic schools in big-time football. That’s part of why the game has always made sense — the schools actually share values and the whole “student-athlete” thing isn’t just a slogan for either of them.

You don’t have to love the game, but pretending it has zero value or history is just ignoring what’s actually happened over the last three decades.

And you better believe that Freeman wants an annual game in California. He wants NDs presence in the state.

I know we’ve done this before, but I don’t think Stanford is a rival so much as they’re a perennial schedule fixture.

SC? Rival. Michigan? Rival. That’s it. That’s the list. BC and MSU or Purdue may qualify to a significantly lesser extent. Those are OUR rivals. We can’t control how many other dozens of programs view ND as a rival…but it isn’t mutual.

We can keep the game but the Pope needs to mandate that it can't kick off later than 8:00 PM EST.

That’s not history. Sorry if you don’t get it.
