Fair enough but that wasn’t a concern coming into this game. The narrative was “UNC defense is pretty bad so ND shouldn’t struggle winning the trenches”. Underestimate an opponent that can actually beat you is always dangerous. (Not saying ND coaches were but media has dismissed Carolina D all year b/c they’ve been trash)
Yeah, but I feel like this is more about ND not showing up than UNC showing up.

Penalties keeping us in this game. Glad it's tied, don't feel like we can keep it up. Hope I'm wrong.

Yeah feels like we’re “lucky” to have it be 17-17 and they could hit a big play at any time. The stats might not bear that out, but it’s how it feels. Meanwhile, it feels like our receivers aren’t getting separation and our running game is inconsistent.

Hold on to your butts.

Some positives. Marist S’s best half of football yet. The DL is getting pressure.

Agreed. They just have to focus getting Howell & the RB to the ground. They seemed to get better as the half went on but left a lot of TFLs on the field early on. Howell is slippery...I”ll give him that.

Its time for number 3 to finally step up.
He was a top 50 recruit.

White was bad early.
Marist seemed to have a good first half.

Could be but when you see a navigable path to the National Championship, I would hope you took the 2nd most dangerous team on your schedule seriously.

He has no choice but to step up. Crawford has struggled too.

Good to see Ian's happy feet are back. On at least 3 occasions he caused unnecessary pressure by moving the pocket, or trying to.

I think us hitting their QB so many times in the first half will pay off.

Hopefully.

Yea, he needs to calm down and get back to what looked so good the last few weeks. Command the pocket and reliever strikes.

Only complaint for Book is he has too much time to be throwing it away at such a high rate. This defense isnt good enough to cover everyone.

Agreed. He needs to get back to taking calculated chances. It was a terrible throw to Jmac and he still caught it. Gotta give your guys chances.

It does but they have a half to wake up.. Thing is it’s probably going to remain uncomfortable b/c UNC can score almost instantly. Go Irish!

It feels like that because that’s exactly what’s happening.

The one thing that doesn’t make sense to me is with how poor UNC’s defense is especially in the secondary is how the WR’s are not getting open. Doesn’t make sense to me. Ian Book is holding the ball for 5+ seconds and no o e is open

The only thing I can think of is Reese is not calling the correct plays to take advantage of the defense scheme UNC is running.

Giving up 3 & 18 and then 3 & 20 broke my spirit. I felt my spirit snap. This is why I am not a coach.

Yeah, that was bad. Real bad. And both due to mental lapses by our two defensive studs. Yikes.

There really is no excuse for that type of football. And it took 3 of our best defenders to screw that all up. Pretty remarkable stuff. I’d love to know the odds/percentages of completing both of those for first downs.

OL struggling a bit with replacements. Book has had to do a lot of fancy footwork, but on the plays he has time guys aren't getting open. Hoping we get adjustments at half here.

Our receivers have heart, but they're not world beaters. There's no Fuller speed in these starters, and they were just starting to find their stride the last few weeks.

Yes. UNC's defense isn't good. That we're tied at half is a bigger indictment of our O than our D.

IDK. Our O is on track to hit our AVG PPG.

Our D on the other hand, gives up only 16.6 a game, and gave that up in the 1st half.
