Ultimately, we needed to be at least even in turnover margin to win this game. We were -2. And got stopped on 4th down. Always stings to lose to your rival, but this season could've gone haywire fast, and it didn't. These coaches and players fought as hard as they could. The future is bright under Marcus Freeman.

ND started the season versus the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and ended it with the Heisman winner and the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, if it wasn’t the QB they faced mid season.

The last thing I’m jumping off is Freeman/Golden defensively. They’ll be more than fine.

I am with you but this wasn't Golden's best game plan. Mickey hasn't proven he could play with out help and it burnt us. We got the pressure we needed just not the ability to finish.

Wish someone would have planted that cocky QB into the ground, we'll see him next year in SB.

Kids fought. Fumble coming out of 3rd qtr where SC got points was insurmountable.

Other ND teams have quit in the pas in games like these, Happy to see our guys fight.

8-4, Freeman bringing in tons of talent. Irish on a good trajectory, win the bowl, keep fighting, we'll get there

Down 2/3 of our best corners. Awful play calling for most of first half and minus 2 in TOs. Probably shouldn’t have bee as close

Not a Pyne guy, but he was productive tonight. I’m not convinced SC is that good. ND shot themselves in the foot repeatedly and apparently forgot how to tackle

Caleb Williams on this team and ND laughs their way to 12-0 even against what was a ridiculous schedule. Is what it is. The difference in the game ended up being two Drew Pyne mistakes (he played well overall given his limitations).

ND is hard capped until they figure out how to pay for a top tier QB.

The defense was unfortunately very undisciplined in their rush lanes tonight and didn't keep this asshole in the pocket

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
he ran away BACKWARDS. No one else does that. Kinda hard to keep some one in the pocket when he runs backward fifteen yards and then sprints to the side.

If ND allows Freeman to bring in 20 transfers
Was there a QB of CW stature that didn’t allow in? Yes or No?
First, the quote was 20 players. Not 20 Qbs. Second, ND passed on transfer QBs according to other threads. Pyne probably had the best game of his season. But then again it was against one of the worst defenses he has faced. So one could assume a better QB just simply plays better. When you play the transfer game like USC did or at least attempt it like they did ND would have fielded a better team.

No offensive turnovers would have helped especially the fumble to start the half, but the difference in this game was Caleb Williams. I don't think we would have been able to outduel him. He could not be stopped.

Agree, all of the other pieces are there.

So no. I don’t care about the other 19. Caleb was the difference in the game.

The two turnovers were absolutely killer, but the defense being allergic to tackling tonight was a bigger factor. Even without the turnovers, I still think USC wins - the defense was that bad tonight.

I wish we would play the young guys on D like we have out of necessity on O.

Pyne was 23/26 for 300+ yards. One of his best games if not for the turnovers.
This. The turnovers absolutely sucked, but I think that's his first 300+ yard game. We asked him to do a lot when we've leaned on the running game much of this season. We needed more stops from the defense so we could run our regular gameplan.

Williams is the type of QB that has you yelling WTF are you doing until he pulls a miracle out of his ass.

Pyne is the type that just makes you say WTF.

8-4 is better than I was expecting after the way the season started.

I still blame Tommy for the shitty QB room.
The shitty play calling against OSU Marshall and Stanford.

This loss was on the QB that wouldn't start at any other P5 school.

I mean we did have to go to the pass for most of the second half out of necessity, so his 300+ is not as impressive as it might be otherwise. He did make some plays, but he also missed some significant ones AND cost us a chance to win with his 2 TO's

Caleb Williams tonight was playing how I play NCAA13. Run backwards and roll to the right or left, if the player is open I throw it and if not I keep it. Plain and simple. It beats Bama when I play with Akron and it beat us tonight.

The passing was there all night. Tommy was slow to transition. When he did it was good other than the turnovers.
