I'm here, I think.

If you lose to Stanford, this is basically '15 all over again. Winning a bowl and getting to ten wins would be great on the surface... but it's actually indicative of a failure to get over the hump and steal a win from someone you aren't supposed to beat (UGA '17; Clemson '15), as well as a sign that you aren't consistently getting wins over teams that are on your "level" (Stanford '17; Stanford '15).

The only reason to maybe not burn everything if we drop this one to Stanford is the fact that it looks like the coaching staff is ACTUALLY in a really good spot (as long as Long is still learning and evolving).

I’m with both of you. If ND loses, I can already see the posts by fans & Bryan Driskell: “If I told you this team would finish 9-3 w/ a chance for a 10th win after going 4-8, you’d take that everyday & twice on Sunday”.

No thanks. Now 10-2...hell yes. Because if you would’ve told me that ND would dominate opponents (incl #1 rival SC) the way they did in Sept/Oct, any rational fan would see a 2-2 Nov w/ one nationally televised beatdown as “same old Notre Dame...get our hopes up & crap the bed in Nov”.

...... not a failure. Just a little disappointing when we're so close.

I'll bet that any real football person in the country not emotionally bound to ND fandom would view a 9-3 regular season record with that schedule quite a success. ... and a 10-2 regular season record a standing ovation success.

Right on Mike-I was at the spring game and these guys have had one &^%%$#@ season. By the way to the other posts about the sec-their opinion is clouded in their culture of the south bias and it just plain doesn't count.

Love Grimes closing statement. lol

SEC teams should schedule that cupcake from Annapolis. Ohio State did 3-4 years ago and barely won in C-bus. IU scheduled them a few years ago and all I heard was this was a gimme W. Navy took them out behind the woodshed.

I look for us to close out with a W Saturday night. We should be able to keep their running game in check for the most part and I think we can score on their defense. Get aheadby 10 or more and make them play catch up.

Dear Lord

Please have BW throw at least 10 balls in the direction of Claypool during the game against Stanford this Saturday.

Amen

Doesn't Chase need them like barely within reach to make circus catches?

Problem is he's the only one that makes em and it makes Wimbush errant.

ergo... If Claypool was a Drop, Wimbush would be accurate.

Grimes literally has a special place in NDs heart because of that catch. Totally got screwed.

Am I the only who thinks we may be better off without ESB playing? Let Claypool and Steph carry the load, and sprinkle in a little Boykin and TE action. At least they play physical.

Love me some PV. Get a boat full of seafood on the rooftop of El Panorama if it's still open. Have fun!

Funny you mention that. Our bartender at the El Presidente years ago brought some Añejo from his village that was rested in porcelain containers so it remained clear.

Best drank I ever had made in a toilet.

I kind of agree. I know Wimbush's throws this year have not been good, but ESB just doesn't show the "want to" when it comes to catching contested balls or having to exert a little extra effort to catch the deep ball. For being around 6'4", he isn't physical at all and doesn't attack the ball. The Miami game is a perfect example; on the deep ball on the first drive, the ball was barely overthrown. Is it really asking too much to dive 2-3 feet to attempt to catch the ball? You can 40 yards just to have the ball fall at your feet; such a waste of a play.

Give me Claypool, Stepherson, Boykin, Young, Smythe, and Kmet/Wright. I'm about to write off Mack too. That dude can't catch shit.

It is kinda funny. Stepherson was the one that was "6 feet under the dog house", but by the way ESB and Stepherson are playing you would think ESB was 6 feet under the dog house.

To his credit, ESB will go up for a ball, and has made some spectacular catches. But I have also noticed he has skipped out on a few of those long ball dives. I was very disappointed he did not seize that opportunity in the endzone during the Miami game. Critics have come swinging at Wimbush (myself included) for the Miami debacle, but Brandon came gunning for big things that first drive, and his receivers didn't show up.

I think the offense will run smoother without ESB because it forces BW to spread the ball around rather than key in on the "#1 guy." I think Claypool and Stepherson with some doses of Smythe and Boykins with a strong power run game is a sexy offense.

Ppl said the same thing about Kizer playing without Fuller in 2016. We went 4-8.

Well be fine though without RAN. Frankly he hasn't been that good and is easily replaceable. Claypool and Stepherson are better.

Who?? Fuller>>>>>>ESB. Not to mention our 2014-2016 offenses were set up and structured a lot differently than our 2017 offense. We were chucking it all over the yard from 14-16.

Remember when Sanders had a sparq rating that was off the chain? Wish we could have found better ways to utilize him on the field.

I agree when st brown is in there it seems like wimbush only looks at him and doesn't see who else is open downfield

And you can be sure the staff wants to get back to that. Or at least to where they average around 200 yds rushing + 225 passing. That would be close to unstoppable.

Well maybe

Against Wake Forest BW targeted Claypool 12 times and he caught 9 of those passes for 180 yds. (one horrible drop)

I say maybe because since they are both the same height, BW may have thought he was throwing to ESB and only found out after the game.

So the next game against Miami, he made sure to look for number 6 not 83 before throwing the ball.

Hopefully BK tells BW that ESB is dressing against Stanford and just gives Claypool no. 6 to wear.
