it was justified they called a false start when it should have been offsides for trying to draw a false start
That's exactly our point. It would have been justified for BK to get a 15 yard penalty on the targeting non calls.

What I want is a coach who can actually coach. We should be 11-0, period. Full Stop. USC turned their season around after a loss by 30+ in their opening game. THAT is called coaching.

Seriously, I would like to know what the difference is, when ND has had their softest schedule in a decade, at least, while USC played a far superior schedule and won at least 2x as many games.

The way i am reading the presser on 247 is that Kelly was puzzled when asked if the running game was as physical as he would like it to be.

His response was we put up 200 rushing yards against a top rushing defense. I don't know where this perception is coming from.

He also said that if he had to do it again they would throw the football more.?.?.?

JMO 16 rushes is to many for the QB.

You want a coach who can actually coach, so again, I ask - you want a guy who just lost to Kansas?

So just to be clear you want a coach that lost to Kansas?

I'd take him as a DC for sure, but maybe not HC. I've met him, and he commands your respect. He's had the benefit of coaching under both Lou and Urban.

Amen. Two lines of thinking here...either Kelly is trying to stay away from calling anyone out by using the 200 yard stat line (Which is misleading because 1/3 of those yards came on the busted Adams run). The other line of thinking here is....Kelly is delusional when it comes to the run game. Yeah, 200 yards is nice, but to take a quote from the Nolan Post Game "When you go for a big run, then run for a 1 yard gain, 2 yard gain, 1 yard gain, that's not a good game." Big runs are fun, but we need consistency.

Yes I would take Strong. He could also take Longos place. That guy could play middle linebacker right now! He was a good assistant and did a good job at Louisville.

...

Good luck. Strong has a $10+ million buyout with a deduct for compensation from another job. I haven't read any details of the deduct but say it's $2 million a year.

Is ND going to pay say $2 mill plus a $1 mill salary?

Is Strong going to eat the buyout to take a DC job?

What if Texas fires him first? Sure looks like that based on reports.

Texas Longhorns fire Charlie Strong as football coach

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas has decided to fire Charlie Strong as football coach, according to ESPN's Brett McMurphy and multiple reports.

Strong will coach the Longhorns' final regular season game Friday against TCU before stepping down. He's 16-20 in three seasons at Texas and 12-14 in Big 12 play. His final game will clinch either a bowl bid or his third seven-loss season.

Strong is owed a buyout of $10.7 million for the remaining two years on his contract, a fee which would be reduced if he takes another job.

...

Earlier I noted that I didn't know any details of the buyout's reduction amounts and assumed $2 million a year. The article above makes it more like $5+ million/year. ND would have to pay Strong more than Kelly to be a Coordinator while still paying Kelly to be HC. Not likely.

I'd like Strong as DC, as well, but it doesn't seem financially feasible.

The press release from the Texas AD reminding people that Strong will be evaluated after the season amounts to a non-denial denial. Strong will coach the last game then be done. Strong coaches the last game so Texas doesn't have to go through the Interim HC saga and then announce the hire of Herman or whomever the following day.

You are a very smart, knowledgeable poster, know a lot of ND history and the insides of the university. Can you explain to me why the administration does not pay their head football coach and assistant coaches industry standards of other top level Universities? Like Michigan, OSU, USC, LSU...

I never mentioned Charlie Strong.

He clearly is not HC material.

Helton is. Fuente is. Herman is.

There is talent out there. Just not Charlie. But I am assuming the reason people mention Charlie is because they think he could coach up the Irish Defense, not be the Head Coach.

Charlie Strong isn't HC material? How do you think he got the Texas job in the first place?

He built an 11-2 and a 12-1 team in four years at Louisville and beat #3 Florida in a bowl. He's shown he can do it. I don't think his Texas tenure will mean he can't be a good HC again. It might not be at a Tier 1 school but I could see him building another solid program at a Memphis, Tulsa, Ark State, La Tech, ULM, Tulane, etc...

I also read a Miss St piece on a 'Dan Mullen leaving scenario' and the writer thought a Charlie Strong hire would be a slam dunk for the Bulldogs.

Just saying.

I'm not sure about the colored above. Are you insinuating that the next school to hire Strong will have to pay him $5 million dollars a year?

Yellow fonts on a light gray background... Nice!

...and no, if they fire him they will pay the buyout.
