I might be in the minority, but I am very happy with this win. Here's why

1. Sometimes the team you're playing comes out with a bullet proof game plan. Thats what BC did. They blanketed our receivers, and tried to force Tommy not to win the game, but to lose the game, if this game were played in early October we would have lost. Tommy got careless, and threw a very ugly INT. But after that he took what was given.

2. BC, while 3-7, they have played tough these last couple weeks against FSU and Vatech. Theyre a good defensive team.

3. In the past, how many games like this has ND lost? They held it together and won.

----

My only complaint I guess is why didn't Hendrix go in to change it up. He could've ripped off chunks of yardage with his feet

This is really a great post through and through.

Fold? Or was it a pourous offensive line? Come on! The kid is rated as high as he is because he is talented, but a QB can't produce with a bad offensive line. and everything I have read on his performances is that his line isn't that good.

I'll take any win. What was with the BC "injuries" at the end? I counted 3. They seemed to be taking a page from NYG, complete nonsense on their part. That takes away from the integrity of the game.

I seriously hope Rees gets beat out by Hendrix/Golson/Kiel.
No deep ball, consistently checks down on 3rd to a WR 5 yards behind the firstdown marker, hangs WRs out to dry, etc etc etc

This is really a great post through and through.

Thanks for the props. To answer my own question, my best guess is that the game was always tight, and BK didn't want to risk a disaster.

As if this hasn't been said 1000 times, but Aaron Lynch is going to be scarey good. He is so unbelievably talented and, to quote Aaron Taylor, has that "I grew up without a mailbox" mentality. He's just a bad man.

Reeses limitations were on clear display today which in turn limited the offense.A running quarterback would have opened up the field.

Did you not see Kiel fold like a Walmart tent against better competition?

Checked one last time before I leave to the bar and saw this.

You obviously haven't watched much of Gunner. When they played teams of equal caliber, he would throttle teams, usually all by himself. He is the only d1 player on the entire East squad. Cathedral might be the best team in Indiana period, and last time I checked, Gunner doesn't play for on defense. So was it his fault that Cathedral scored on pretty much every possession? He was hit on every single play and still made a few things happen. He was lucky to get out of that game alive. There is a reason that analyst that know way more about football than you love the kid.

Typical of you to judge an entire player's game on one game though.

Don't be dramatic. He consistently checks down to his 3-4 options because the first two are covered. What would you have him do? Force a ball into coverage, then come on here and ask why he doesn't check down?

---I think it's more of a concern on why noone but Floyd and Eifert can get open consistently. Someone has to step up next season.

His deep balls do need some work, but they take time, you really think Hendrix or Golsons deep ball would be better? They take time to perfect in game speed.

He does not consistently hang recievers out to dry, he does it now and then. Every QB does.

My biggest complaint about Tommy is that he can't run. If he could scramble at all, we'd be in great shape.

Seen almost every game this year and many from the past. He plays pretty weak compitition.

I'm not saying he won't be good, but folding in big games and at combines is not a good sign.

I'm glad we pulled it out... I was worried that it was going to turn into another Syracuse. A few things:

I was very impressed with the BC defense. They were swarming to the ball and playing with passion in a way that we were not. Luke Kuechly is an absolute stud. I'm very impressed with him and I will be pulling for him throughout his career.

I actually got the sense during the game that if I wasn't an ND fan (as in.. if I was neutral) I would be pulling for BC. They showed a ton of heart and played the role of the underdog with fight incredibly well. Props to them.

I was very unimpressed with our play overall. I didn't think there were many bright spots aside from our pass rush. If we play like that against Stanford we'll get murdered.

Second question of the presser, "Coach Kelly can you comment on Tommy?"

Kelly, "12-2 as a starter. Pretty good for a starter!"

HCTI, do you write Kelly's copy?

hahaha....(yes)

Quite true, the offense is still plenty potent with Rees, no one will deny that.
But his limitations in this system are clear as day to anyone who's watching. Rees could start the next two seasons for all we know. Not sure I see that being the case, but regardless of his abilities they win with Tommy back there.

The coaches will decide who gives the team the best chance to win. For now, that is Tommy Rees. Should be a fun filled offseason though. The QB stable is pretty deep.

If you have watched all of his games (including last night) and somehow think that he isn't a big time, game changing type player, then I cant imagine any recruit ever exciting you. Furthermore, you in a huge minority with pretty much every analyst in the country disagreeing with you.

But go ahead and backtrack now and act like your statement wasn't accusing him of being a bad recruit.
