Getting wayyyyy ahead of myself, but if they can pull this off, and you look at their next three opponents before our boys head to the 412.

We could be looking at 7-2 ranked Pitt squad hosting us in primetime for one of those elusive marquee wins we’re looking for.

Obviously we’re talking about Pitt football in the 21st century here, so we shall see.
Playing the Noles tough.

Heintschel, the true frosh QB; looks really good. Impressed w/ his play thus far. Either FSU’s defense completely sucks or ND is gonna have their hands full w/ this offense. I like the play calls too by the OC.
Yeah he’s tough. Side note, the split screen view on ACCN is brutal to watch.

They look legit they are def a top 25 team
Defense looks very small out there.
Think we would run all over them.
Thier new QB is very impressive though.
His quick twitch movements in the pocket had the F$U defensive lineman on skates the entire second half

Hope they win the next (3) where they will be a favorite, and we get a Top 25 road matchup in mid November.

Would be huge!

I think this Pitt game could be a more important one than we anticipated; and hopefully, Pitt keeps winning until they play us later in the season.

Import because it will give the CFP committee a comparison point between us, Miami, and GT late in the season before their final 12-team selection.

And let's say it is GT and Miami in the ACC Championship game - The loser could be a team with 2 losses, especially GT, and if we look way better against a 7-2 Pitt (when we play them or whatever it will be) than GT does, that gives ND an edge over GT for final selection.
Plus if we beat them way more than Miami, it shows ND is peaking going into the end of the season and that at that point, we potentially could even beat Miami in a rematch, and a ‘canes team that could end up being a #1 or #2 undefeated Miami by season's end.

Of course, this is looking ahead and is all a moot point I’d we don’t beat USC. Beat The Trojans! 🍀🍀🍀

If ND keeps playing defense like this, they will destroy the remainder of the schedule including USC and Pitt. In that case, they will probably get a home playoff game. Advanced stats heavily favor the Irish already and continued blowouts will only strengthen those top 5 metrics.

I hope you're right but I really don't think we will be getting a home playoff game regardless of the analytics. I think there's 0 chance we're not in the playoffs at 10-2, but I think we're going somewhere warm to play in the first round. I could also see the playoff committee arranging it so that we go to Bloomington for the inter-state/rematch fun and to avoid sending a good SEC team up north.

Hoping this becomes a ranked matchup, they have Syracuse, NC State and Stanford before us. If they win those they will come into this one at 7-2.

Agreed. NC State is probably going to be a challenging one for them, but it is a home game for Pitt which should help.

Their QB, Mason Heintschel, is a true freshman from Clay HS in Oregon, OH. I am fairly involved in Oregon so I had been following his HS career/recruitment.

I think he's going to be a damn good QB in the near future. Seems like Pitt got a real one.

That field at the stadium is a mess. Watching the Steelers kicker attempt a FG yesterday and having his plant foot rip through bad grass was hard to watch. Players complained about the condition after the game.

It’s been an issue forever there. I’m actually shocked the nfl hasn’t stepped in and made the do something different.

Oh no, last thing I want to do is worry about our stellar kicking situation

This is going to be a ranked matchup.

They're putting it to NC St right now
Looks very unlikely based on where they’re on “others receiving votes” they will be idle the week before we play them so maybe there will be plenty of chaos for the 20-25 ranked teams the next two weeks.

Regardless, hopefully they just get by the (3) time zone travel spot to Stanford next week, and we get a 3:30pm ABC slot or possibly even primetime opportunity to get a “big” win

Pitt is a key component for ND since they play undefeated GT and Miami after ND and there is a potential for carnage that will help ND and be a great comparison point.

Their QB1 looks very legit. ND still has two games prior to this one, but this could end up being a very tough game.

Easily the best opponent left on the schedule.

Undefeated Navy too,… can’t let them get into any kind of groove with ball control, we’ve seen that movie before

Navy played ND unbeaten last year and got waxed 51-14.

Been looking at all future opponents out of the corner of my eye. Pitt looks better now than SC did going into the ND game, and on top of that, ND has to play Pitt right after Navy. The game right after a service academy has proven to be a pain in the ass.

BC is next. All I'm saying is that Pitt as of this moment is looking very good. Don't look ahead, but be ready.
