It is much more than bad ass, in my opinion.
Gentlemen, I cannot rep you enough!
Pa, once again you are a magician at providing a fantastic dataflow of pertinent, relevant, and timely data for and about the Irish!
And Koon, you really do have a way of lighting up like a pinball machine to what is important! You are our own data analysis relevance Geiger counter!
This series of tweets is unbelievably important to the future ongoing operation of ND football.
What you are seeing here is a man, (forget the coach part), who has taken a look at upping his game, and after careful analysis, over a prolonged period done a number of things, none of which was an 'easy fix,0' to improve the program.
The first set of quotes, PA provided, which I agree with Koon, are bad ass, show Kelly as a warm and caring coach committed to his players betterment.
[I think the part of the presser where Kelly talked about Fuller's return with a concerned face was a rehearsed bullet point. The kind a politician or public figure will use if given the opportunity. It was interesting because there seemed to be a few seconds where Kelly was concerned with taking his caution for the player's best interest too far. And then he lightened it up with his own patented facetious-ism! As if who would buy a coach turning down a returning All-American. Kelly ended up with demonstrated behavior that he put a players interest before his own. Right there on tape for all the right people to see!]
At any rate the first three quotes show his concern with his players, and such a subtle tooting of his own horn in recruiting and coaching, that it doesn't even register as self-promotion. You can't
coach that!
Then the quotes move into the behind the scenes backstory about improvements to the mechanism that have improved the on-field results. And there it is, wait a minute, a call to join our successful program for all young studs!
A pitch wrapped in soft data, surrounded by care, concern, and love; all from a program massively investing in moving away from its polarizing past images.
This started, by the way, with Jack Swarbrick's mantra about how Notre Dame is good for college football.
