From what I keep reading, ND is playing a dangerous game. Had Howard wrapped up long before. Family and Will were all set on ND. ND Called and told them tonight they are going with someone else.

That’s interesting…

Even more interesting is wondering who makes that call. Gino or GP?

For the record, I like Leonard a bit more than Howard. Fell in love with Leonard after Duke’s first few games this year (before the ND game where they broke Leonard and Duke).

They better not fumble the bag here like the OC search and end up with neither of them.

Leonard has way more NFL upside and I think that's a good add. When healthy, he has a ton of dual threat ability too.
I've been on record for a couple weeks that I think Leonard would be a great addition. There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical, but I love the upside and running ability. He's the only true NFL prospect available

Leonard has followed at least five Notre Dame players. Not sure if that’s new or not though 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Does anyone know if Riley has one or 2 years of eligibility remaining? Not sure if he qualifies for the Covid year.

That all sounds like a very dangerous game. Especially if it’s possible that Leonard was planning to stay at Duke until Elko bailed like 24 hours ago and hasn’t fully considered his options.
You’d hate to say no thanks to Howard and then lose Leonard when some program that actually produces NFL QBs comes in with a better offer.

He should have one- looks like he'd be a true senior next year and he played > 4 games his first three seasons

ND had to back up the fucking truck. Regardless of his abbreviated 2023 season, he is the only QB in the portal with top 10 draft pick upside.
So you're saying he could be the first ND QB picked in the first round in 18 years? We need to end the drought

He has 1 year left as he was a 2021 recruit and played in more than 4 games as a Freshman.

I get he’s coming from an academic school but any concern over the fact he’s a junior?
I'm not because of that exact reason. ND has been unable to take non-grad transfers who are more than 1 year out of HS lately with the exception of players from elite academic institutions. Brandon Joseph was 3 years out of HS and didn't have his degree from NW and he got through admissions. ND Basketball was able to get Julian Roper to transfer in and he was at NW for 2 years. My theory is that ND is able to get non-grad transfers who are more than 1 year out of HS from elite academic institutions. They've had success with NW. Leonard is 3 years out of HS and was not a Early Enrollee, so I'd be surprised if he got his degree next month. He's likely a semester or two away. But since he's apparently an option, that would be another example in support of my theory. Duke, like NW, is an elite academic institution. My guess is ND could do the same thing with players from Stanford and Vanderbilt.

To be fair to Leonard, we also did quite the number on the presumptive #1 overall pick in the NFL draft. I thought Leonard looked pretty good in '22 and pre-ND this season as well. And in the ND game, while he didn't impress as a passer, he sure as hell earned a lot of respect from me for continuing to line up and run the ball play after play when it seemed like every play he was getting smacked. That was one of the most physical beatings I've seen a QB take in a long time.

Pretty on the record against Leonard but I’ll be open minded here. Some copium is if Parker is still the OC, there will be a ton of broken plays that Leonard can maximize with his legs in ways the other QBs can’t.

Thanks for sharing @SoIll

I agree. I want to see more so what Gino can do with him. We all know Parker didn’t call plays the last two games.

I only watched Leonard against Clemson and ND. He looked good vs Clemson, but less than average against ND.

He has two years of eligibility left. He could be the guy for two years. He will have a better running game and OL (hopefully) at ND than he did with Duke. If WRs can take just a 20% jump next season, it could be something to we’d all enjoy.
