Even as chaotic as the situation has been at ND, there is still a greater chance of winning a National Championship at ND than at UC. That, coupled with some kind of combination title (RB Coach/Asst. Head Coach; RB Coach/Recruiting Coordinator), might be attractive to the game. And I would say that being a position coach on a NC team is probably as good as a few years of Coordinating at a mid tier program like Cincy.

Love it! Thanks for the update brother. Though the coach from IN, who's name escapes me, would seem like a great get, I really cannot imagine having an opportunity to bring in AD and then crap the bed. If this were another school I may want it the other way, but at ND this is a home run hire if it works out.

TIFWIW, there are rumblings on the PSU 247 board that we are kicking the tires of Charles Huff (PSU's RB/ST coach)

Is already ranked 16 in 247 recruiter rankings for 2016. Penn State would really hate us if we stole this guy.

Keep in mind this is purely a rumor/s[eculation and I question whether to bring them or not. I find it interesting conversation as long as we don't get carried away. Zero sources have confirmed this.

Huff is an intriguing name also, but as far as everything goes I really only feel confident about Lyght and Quinn being in at the moment. I am pretty confident in saying that the coaching staff needed a shakeup and these will be critical hires moving forward that dictate what Kelly's legacy will be here at ND.

Huff was noted as a possible coach the moment alford left...fits what we need/good recruiter/rb and special teams coach...Huff was at Western Michigan in 2013 and was hired away by James Franklin. He coached with the Buffalo Bills in 2012 and was also at Vanderbilt for a season. He's a Maryland native that has strong ties to the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia area) and already has 2016 commitments from four-star defensive end Shane Simmons and four-star cornerbackLavert Hill, two Notre Dame targets.

With Sanford considered one of college football’s brightest offensive minds,

A 2005 Boise State graduate, Sanford returned to the Broncos this season after three years as an assistant at Stanford. He coached running backs his first season with the Cardinal, was also given the responsibility of recruiting coordinator his second season and keep those extra duties when he became quarterbacks and wide receivers coach his final season.

Sanford was Western Kentucky’s quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator in 2010 and spent the previous season as the tight ends and fullbacks coach at Yale as well as the recruiting coordinator. He was also an offensive assistant at Stanford from 2007-08 and got his start coaching in college at UNLV from 2005-06 under his father and then-Rebels coach Mike Sanford Sr., now the head coach at Indiana State.

A Seal Beach, Calif. native, Sanford was a quarterback for Boise State from 2000-04. The elder Sanford was Ohio State coach Urban Meyer’s offensive coordinator when the two worked together at Utah from 2003-04.

I'm so confused now...has Sanford's name been floating out there prior to this? Does this mean Quinn's coaching RBs?

Pandfan you are lightning my friend. Love the new avatar but kind of miss the old one. Now lets get on topic. Per multiple sources they expect this to happen. In his 1st year the offense as BSU ranked 14th nationally and Wiltfong marks this guy as somebody that could take over for BK when the time comes. Small connection to ND as his dad was a one time assistant at ND. Interviewed recently with OSU, Oregon State, and Vanderbilt. Wiltfong is hearing that he likes recruiting and could be a stud in that role.

They don't specify what role he'll take on but he's a pretty coveted assistant. Due to location his name was pretty hot out here while a lot of the coaching changes were happening at Oregon State and potentially Oregon.

One of the brightest young minds in college football could soon land at Notre Dame.

Irish247 is expecting it to happen after talking to multiple sources Wednesday.

Irish247 has learned that Boise State offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Sanford is the top target for Irish head coach Brian Kelly to join the staff in South Bend and it sounds like it will happen.

Sanford is the type of candidate that could ultimately be a successor to Kelly down the road. Besides Notre Dame, he’s interviewed recently at several schools including Ohio State, Oregon State and Vanderbilt.

Under Sanford’s direction during his first season at his alma mater this past fall, Boise State ranked 14th nationally in yards per game in 2014 and ninth in scoring as the Broncos finished 12-2 including a win over Arizona in the Fiesta Bowl.

Prior to Boise State, Sanford spent three seasons at Stanford as a running backs coach (2011-12) and quarterbacks coach and receivers coach (2013), along with being the recruiting coordinator his final two years in Palo Alto.

Sanford was part of Stanford’s Pac-12 Championships in both 2012 and 2013. He coached in two Rose Bowls and a Fiesta Bowl as part of the staff. The Cardinal ranked 18th-nationally in rushing in 2011 (210.6), a major reason Stanford finished the season ranked seventh-nationally in scoring (43.2) and eighth-nationally in total offense (489.3).

Sanford’s father Mike is the head coach at Indiana State and a former assistant at several schools including Notre Dame, so there is a connection between the younger Sanford and the Irish.

Love this hire!

Let's oversign on coaches this year. There's always offseason transfers, office injuries, and retirements and then we're below the NCAA limit by fall camp.
