I don't know much about this stuff, but if North Korea nukes us wouldn't they be wiped off the face of the earth? Are they really confident that their military is strong enough to face ours? And it's not like we'd be alone, either, because North Korea hasn't exactly made many friends.

There is literally 0.01% chance they even have the capability to reach us. They definitely do not have the capability. That said, they could definitely reach South Korea where we have 30,000 troops stationed. They have a 1 million man army. They can definitely do some damage if they do an all out strike for a little while; however, we will proceed to **** them in 48 hours, 72 at most.

Correct me if I am wrong, but hasn't China also said they are not backing North Korea?

Ignoring the fact that it doesn't seem likely that they have developed a reliable long range missile capable of hitting the US...yes, they would be well fooked. Now, as to whether they would want to essentially commit nation suicide, the nation's leadership hasn't proven themselves to be rational actors for quite some time. I've read some articles suggesting otherwise, but my personal opinion is that there's no other significant country in the world with such high caliber nutjobs running the place. I would be nervous if I lived in South Korea or if I believed they had the technology to launch a significant attack against the US.

I know they have expressed their displeasure with recent behavior, but I haven't heard that they have said they would not back North Korea. If they did give assurances they were not going to back them, there is really nothing keeping us from bombing them into the stone age.

But, they tell a different story. Here's a link to the official propaganda coming out of North Korea.

North Korea cannot touch any US state. What they can do is devastate Seoul and kill millions in the process.

Other than the death of thousands of innocent lives, that don't deserve to die because of the leaders of their country. But in the end, that wont matter. Hopefully diplomatic measures can be used to solve the issues, but I wont hold my breath.

Say North Korea nukes South Korea, do you think we then retaliate directly on North Korea?

They're trying to intimidate the new South Korean leaders and also bargain for more foreign aid. More empty threats.

We have a ground and space missile defense system, if they were even able to hit the US (Which they can't) it would be shot down before reaching anywhere near the mainland.

If they would somehow manage to do the impossible though, I'd give them 48 hours until North Korea was turned into South Korea's new parking lot.

I know I've read somewhere that China has pretty much told the US something like "yes, we know they are crazy, do what you must, just please minimize the impact to China". Russia has been distancing itself for a while. Overall, I don't see anyone besides other nut jobs like maybe Iran, siding with N Korea.

The war would last about a week. North Korea would be blown to bits, conventionally speaking, and they wouldn't be able to supply any divisions. No nukes needed for those clowns. They have thousands of jets and whatnot, but not enough fuel to get half of them off the ground and they'd be almost instantly blown away once they were up.

I also question there ability to nuke Seoul or Japan, especially Japan. We can shoot stuff out of the sky these days.

Their last nuclear test was estimated to have the yield of a tractor trailer load if TNT which is small. Many view that as a test failure.

South Korea, then Japan, would be their target unless they went after a US asset (boat) or US troops and that's a significant risk.

They are acting pretty crazy, more so than in the past.

Also, North Korea does this sort of **** all the time. The media is just playing it up for a story, because it has people's attention.

If I had a dollar for every time North Korea "threatens" South Korea I could get a free six-pack on a weekly basis.

Guys. They don't have to nuke anyone.

They can easily kill millions of people in Seoul. N.K. has thousands of artillery pieces in range of Seoul. In a war, they could easily fire thousands upon thousands of rounds into the city, killing millions, before we could stop them.

This is important too. They are not prepared for even the most basic logistics necessary to perform a short military campaign.

Kim Jong-Un is a lot of things, but he's not suicidal. He likes his toys, and his food, and his women too much to get himself incinerated by a tactical strike.

I spent a year in the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) between North and South Korea as a young Sergeant in the Army. North Korea is a strange fkn place. If we would have let General MacArthur handle the situation in the 1950's they wouldn't exist today. I believe the Korean War is where America lost its balls. MacArthur was all the way into China and they made him give it back.

Being there is like being transported back in time. They have speakers set up along the border blasting propaganda and a fake city with nobody living there. The North Koreans are starving to death and the leaders abuse them. I remember seeing armed guards standing over workers in the rice fields, making sure they didn't try to run for South Korea.

If they did try to attack the South, I believe most of the soldiers from the north would surrender. N. Korea threatens to kill their families if they do.

Here's a picture of the fake city with the second largest flag in the world.

Like GH90, I don't think KJU will do anything, but if he did.... wouldn't be shocked if China dropped the first round of bombs on NK. The last thing China wants is a ton of fall out blowing North. Just a shame that this PoS cult of personality nutbag endangers so many people, including his own. Here's to hoping some rational NKorean takes him out before anything happens.

China has a huge problem with NKorean refugees. A matter of fact, I believe they have moaned and groaned so much to NK, that NK has been building fences and walls to keep them in.
