1) guys on other threads and other boards think USC hiring kiffin is a joke.

2) sanctions? if they are anything like the basketball ones, next to nothing will happen. forefeit games from 2005? basketball didn't lose ONE scholarship for that garbage. probation? that is a JOKE. only serious implications kiffin would face is if ncaa took away scholarships.

So you have a program that is under investigation for various misdeeds. The coach leaves, possilby because of the pending consequences of those misdeeds. What do you do? Go hire a guy who was probably in the mix with those misdeeds and had several more in his first year as a HC in the NCAA. Brilliant.

yeah, no kidding, if this does not SCREAM lack of institutional control on top of everything they are probably going to get hit with I don't know what it will take...

Carroll was a winner from the get-go (minus one average season in the first one) and he inherited a program that was in shambles. This cupboard is bare but I don't see Kiffin as the guy to right their ship.Norm doesn't scare me as much as he did over five years ago (SeeLane Kiffin thread for explanation). Monte scares me but thats about it.

I would be far more terrified right now if Jeff Fisher, Whittingham, or Petersen were announced as the head coach.

I don't think Chow ends up at SC either. He left SC under less than amiable terms, which was attributed mainly to getting crossways with Carroll, you have to remember that Kiffin got his job. That can't sit too well with Chow.

If the NCAA doesn't hammer SC for violations, then I think that Kiffin has a better than 50:50 chance of being very successful in LA. The coaches he's lined up are familar with SC and good recruiters (particularly in Cali). His biggest challenge will be to stay out of the way of his assistants (he should take a week long seminar from Bobby Bowden on how you go about it).

As it relates to the NCAA investigation, there has been a lot written about how the NCAA wants to obtain some evidence via the civil court case involving Reggie Bush and the marketing company he allegedly received benefits from. This is because they have been stonewalled going down other avenues. Also, they only get one shot in front of the infractions committee, which will be sure to be populated by both friends and foes. In other words, they better get it right the first time. If the evidence presented is damning, it will be interesting to see if the NCAA punishes SC, as it has punished lower profile programs. Based on the hearsay, I would give 'em the death penalty (this would based on not only the violations themselves, but also the fact that SC would willingly hire two of the original culprits, i.e., Orgeron and Kiffin). Fair warning to those who willingly flout rules. If that were to happen Kiffen etal, would have to sit on their thumbs for two years and then start from scratch. I also wouldn't mind that if the NCAA later finds that Tennessee has a "pattern of violations" resulting from negligent or intentional disregard of the rules by Orgeron and Kiffin that they then ban any NCAA institution from hiring them ala Calvin Sampson.

I am so happy that Chow will not be going to SC. At least he has the brains to recognize that SC is going to be going down the tube.

I'm so glad Chow is smart enough to stay away from the mess that will be SC when the NCAA gets through with them.

Chow is staying at UCLA......

Article: Offensive coordinator Norm Chow will remain at UCLA Bruins, won't return to USC Trojans - ESPN Los Angeles

Boy people on here were freakin out about chow going to SC. People just need to relax before all the info comes out. Besides just because Chow's Offense worked with Reggie & Matt & company doesn't mean it would've worked with this class........

Well, thank God we've got you here to do it for us.... Shew.....What a relief.

whooo. maybe Kelly should give him a call? just a thought

Kelly's already announced a full complement of coaches. Kelly's offensive staff is built around Kelly's system. Hiring Chow would be counterproductive.

It would jerk USC and USC fans around. That's productive enough.

it would be disruptive because of the newly announced staff...but its win now or go home.

If he got Chow and it failed, it would be counter-productive.

If he got Chow and it was successful, it would be strategic, shrewed.
