Too bad Adidas doesn't propose something like this. Just once a year. I'm not a big fan of our away jerseys.

I think the idea of changing our unis to a more modern look is not a good idea. I like the simple traditional look, but I think the idea of having a one game uni change to a modern look like this would be really appealing to our players and recruits.

i've always liked the traditional style jerseys. i hate what oregon does with their over 300 different combination of jerseys. they look cartoonish at times. if we go to these jerseys, he may as well put a shamrock on the helmet just to **** off everybody. still with the classics and for god's sake: NO NAME ON THE BACK OF THE JERSEYS!

Small little changes are fine, this uniform is ugly as sin.

Only thing I care about is the gold helmet. That never needs to change. As far as the uniforms, change is part of college football and so I expect something to change eventually. Im fine with change as long as the helmet always remains gold.

Here's something to think about.

Notice how that Pro Combat example has a Nike under shirt with sleeves that go to the elbow?

Did you notice that Oregon did the same thing in the title game and put their numbers there?

We're going to see this more and more with football uniforms. If you recall, back in the day football jerseys used to go all the way to the elbow, and sometimes even further.

That allowed uniform designers to put stripes on the shoulders and arms without it looking stupid. Nowadays with the tight jerseys, should stripes look stupid (check Nebraska's uniform, some of the Indy Colts, etc.) and putting numbers and stripes on the arms is all but impossible today.

Just look at an old picture of Joe Namath and then at Joseph Addai to see the difference.

But with these undershirts, we're seeing companies, particularly Nike, putting designs on them as part of the uniform proper. This is exactly what Oregon State did this year with their Pro Combat jerseys...they wore black undershirts to match their jersey and added orange and white stripes near their elbows to make it look more old school.

And I think it looks really incredible. What if Notre Dame started doing this? I think this would be a nice idea that would allow the team to keep its current traditional look but add some modern flair too...which in some cases (as pointed out by the OSU unis) can look old school too.

We could wear blue undershirts at home and put the players numbers on their arms. Or take the "ND" monogram off the jersey, replace it with a number like under Weis, and then put the ND, or shamrock, or the Leprechaun on the undershirts on the arms.

Thoughts?

Visual examples for you:

There's the old school look...plenty of room for stripes and numbers.

There's Addai wearing one of the new uniforms introduced this year I believe. Not all Colts wear them. Noticed how crammed the numbers and stripes are, and that the shoulder stripes don't even come to the front...it's horrible.

There's Nebraska which has a lot of the same problems as the Colts. At least this looks better than it used to for the Cornhuskers.

Before 2010, Nebraska was trying to cram the numbers and stripes on the arms, which looked really bad particularly for some linemen.

There's Oregon wearing the undershirts for the title game, with the numbers on them. Curiously, not all of the players wore them.

I'm sorry but that is such a good look. Notre Dame could do a lot of nice things with this type of uniform addition.

Theo was one of the players who usually wore the sleeves down to his elbow this year. Change his to blue, throw a shamrock on there and it would look awesome.

we've already been through this. See the Sun Bowl thread.
Not crazy about those Pro Combat ones....I do like Nike stuff overall...tho we all know it'd NEVER happen to switch from Adidas.

If Nike did do this, i do not think it would look like that. Look at Bama's Pro Combat Uni's, it had slight mods while keeping traditional. Nike would probably do the same thing with ND

So what if we've been thru this? We all know ND will stay with Adidas, and we love our unis. This was just meant as a fun thread to kill time as we all waited for AL to announce his commitment......thanks for pointing that out though

HEY HEY HEY.

The shamrock on the helmet IS traditional. It'll come back one day, and it will be awesome!

Until you knuckleheads realize, Notre Dame and Adidas will remain hand in hand.

JMHO, of course. Boo Nike. Let's go after recruits that like Adidas. (sarcasm lol)

Ive been trying to do some of these. I don't have the photoshop skills to do the numbers and logos on the jersey though. Im thinking maybe the number font that oregon uses, or something similar.

Here is what I got

just like the NBC deal, we have to win to keep this stuff, if your wondering the most recent renewal of the contract came in late 2005 when we were in the BCS, in short no winning=no contracts, but given the fact that ND seems happy with adidas the only reason we would change would be if adidas lost interest (doubtful) also johnny youre right, NO recruits are that impressed by adidas, mostly because its not "cool" right now. That is, until we make it cool again

I say stay with Adidas bcuz I am also a fan of the traditional uniform we have had forever. Some minor tweeks like BK did this year are ok with me, but not much more. If you want a more modern uniform pick either a specific yearly opponent, or the bowl game every year, and have Adidas design one for that. ND is built on tradition, and our uniforms are apart of that.

We don't need any alternate uniforms, we have the green jerseys and that is enough to switch things up a bit.

I heard that House of Chanel, Gucci, and Dolce and Gabana are all taking applications.

Think we've got a shot with Prada??? I'd love to see open-toed sling-back cleats.

Oh, oh, oh and eye black ... Estee Lauder, Revlon or Helena Rubenstein?
