So you would rather see a continuous OT like playoffs?

Go 10 minutes 4 on 4 and get rid of the shootout. I guarantee there'd be a winner more times then not in those 10 minutes. So many teams now sit back in OT knowing they are good in the shootout or have the shootout to lean back on.

At this point I'd take ties over the shootout. It's such a joke and just an all around ridiculous way to end games

I agree, but it's kind of like fighting in the NHL. More people will go to see a shootout then stay away because of it. I think it would be beneficial to the sport to increase the length of shootouts if they are to keep them.

They also shouldn't do anything with the ice. The goalies are already at too much of a disadvantage

I love watching Shootouts but it doesn't work. You're basically deciding the game on a skills competition.

Agreed, exciting and profitable but not efficient.

I'm fine with SOs. The losing team still gets a point, and it gets a few casual fans to take notice. An even more fun idea:

5 min OT 4 on 4

then

4 min OT 3 on 3

then

3 min OT 2 on 2

then

2 min OT 1 on 1

then

1 min OT 1 on 1 (no goalie, have to score from inside crease)

then COIN FLIP

Now that would be fun to watch lol. How bout instead of a coin flip you have to get the coaches out there for a shootout, or possibly G/whole line brawls.

This is so awesome. Absolutely fantastic twist. Kinda reminds me of summer league lacrosse where they break ties with "Braveheart"... one guy from each team gets down to take a faceoff, no other players on the field but goalies... first to score wins.

Going off of your idea, I'd love to see no time limit on OT but you take a player off the ice every 5 minutes... when it gets to 0-on-0 the visiting coach gets a shot from the far blue line to win it.

I know Peoria and Irishman77 will find this interesting

At my school, we always have Russian exchange students for like 2 weeks and the exhange students and all students taking Russian got to meet Vladimir Tarasenko. So epic, would have taken russian if I knew that would happen.

Tarasenko throwing up the U ( for SLUH aka the "U-High" not Miami)

That's nice. I'm a big fan of russian hockey, also i'm an Islanders fan.

Tarasenko fell in the draft day because of the Russian factor but to me he was better than Tyler Seguin and Taylor Hall, something similar happened with Evgeny Kuznetsov who fell to the #26 pick. This year can happen the same to Valery Nichushkin (who plays with Kuznetsov in Traktor Chelyabinsk) Top five talent but with two years of contract in Russia.

Question for NHL gamers:

I just started getting into hockey about two years ago and have never owned a EA Sports NHL game though I've played it at friends house numerous times. My question is, is their much of a difference between games? Would it be worth waiting for NHL 14 or will it be similar to NHL 13 and I should just get that for cheaper now?

NHL 95 for the Sega Genesis is the best hockey game ever. I don't play video games anymore, but remember my buddy got the 2010 edition and we played it a few times. It was frustratingly hard. They tried to put too much into it. Hockey is hard to translate to video game format, much like basketball.

Personally since i've gotten my ps3 each new NHL game seems like a different game. They really seem to tweak a lot from year to year. Now i'm not sure if it's for better or worse but they do. In my opinion i'd wait till 14 came out, try it out by demo or renting it then decide. By then 13 should be dropped quite a bit.

That's a very bold claim especially considering the year that Hall is having and seguin is having a relatively good year too as a player that is one year younger than Taransenko.

I have played 13 and it is awesome. Ultimate team is really cool. I guess you would have to compare the previewed features for the 2014 game. 13 is a really good game and really active online.

NHL 14 News, Information, and Tips Some of the features on there are really cool. I am not sure how many of them will be in it though.

Here is my quick opinion about the Western Conference playoffs. No stats, no scientific analysis, just what my gut is telling me. Some of the series are going to be exciting. Normally, I suck at anything like picking brackets and things like that, but I thought I would give this a go.

Wings/Ducks
As much as I want the Kings to play the Ducks sometime in the playoffs, I have a strong feeling it won't be this year. I think the Quacks are going to have a tough time with the Wings and I think the Wings will steal at least one of the first two at the Ponda Center. My prediction: Wings win it in 6 games.

Canucks/Sharks This series is probably the one that is the most difficult for me to predict. I would be very happy if a comet could strike the arena and wipe out both teams, but alas one has to emerge from this series. The Canucks can be so dangerous, so I am hoping the Sharks can bounce them, but I just don't see it happening. My prediction: Canucks in 5 games.

Blackhawks/Wild I am interested to see if the Hawks can get their foot back on the gas pedal and regain some of their form from earlier in the season. All of the other teams in the Conference (and League) have been in serious playoff mode all season. Can the Hawks regain the sharpness (no pun intended) for a long playoff run? My prediction: Hawks in 5 games.

Kings/Blues Obviously there is some bias on my part, but I just think the Kings have had the Blues' number lately. The first game will set the tone, so if the Kings can get off to a good start, the Blues will be in trouble. If the Blues drop either (or both) of the first two, they won't recover. My prediction: Kings in 6 games.

The Wings look like a completely different team right now. Very excited to see how they come out in game 1. If they continue riding that 4 win high, I think they comfortbaly win in 5 games. If not, they will lose in five. I dont see this series being draw out at all.

Besides playing the Blues, and Canucks, the Hawks have been playing the bottom feeders of the conference for the last month. They may get a scare from the Wild, but they should still take the series. No idea how many games though.

Canucks vs Sharks is going to be a battle. I think the Sharks swept Vancouver in the regular season also. Def going to be fun to watch. I'll take the Sharks in 7.

Blues got swept by LA in the regular season. But LA was consitent at being one of the most inconsitent teams all season. My Red Wings also fall in that category... I think the Blues are gonna take this one in 5.

You heard it hear first, the Blues are primed for a run IMO:

A) Elliott is playing much better of late w/ the expection of 1 game and the Halak-ness Monster is returning from injury
B) Blues dominate on the forecheck
C) They've finally figured out the Power Play recently
D) Oshie is back
E) JayBo and Leopold have cemented the D has one of if not the best in the NHL
F) The Tarasenkshow is in town
G) The Blues really really really want to beat the Kings

Bummed that my Jackets didn't make it.

West Predictions
Blackhawks 4 Wild 0 -Wild have been too banged up and they beat up on the worst division in hockey.
Kings 4 Blues 2- See last year
Red Wings 4 Ducks 1- Red wings are hot and getting healthy while the Ducks rely too much on shooting percentage.
Canucks 4 Sharks 1-Canucks are playing too well and the sharks are atrocious in the post season.

East
Penguins 4 NYI 1- Cmon
Bruins 4 Leafs 2-BRuins have too much depth and Rask is playing well
Rangers 4 Caps 3- The new look Rangers have too much depth and goaltending for the Caps
MTL 4 Sen 1- MTL is a better team.
