colts have been very quiet with the FA. Ballard has already stated he wouldn't dive in right away, because teams almost always overpay for the talent, then the hit the cap space hard and it puts some tight restrictions on doing anything. It's also hard to find a FA that fits a teams culture and ends up staying long term. He'll pick one a few eventually, but he won't overpay. Same tactic Poilan used all the time. Build through the draft and don't get caught up in FA.

This has to change the Browns draft plans right? At least form the point they found out which was likely before the announcement. Would you take a tackle with one of yoru first three picks?

listening to the Thomahawk podcast since it began few weeks back it was obvious Thomas was done and has been unofficially for some time. He wasn't working out since his injury and had lost a whole bunch of weight. They joked that he looked like he was 200 lbs. I am sure the Browns knew this was coming months ago.

Sounds like Colts and Browns could be the front runners for Suh.

It’s been weird, frankly. I kinda don’t get why they haven’t been engaged in FA. They have one of the largest cap space in the league. At some point they need to spend it.

Where you seeing this?? I'm seeing Cowboys and Seattle and haven't seen the Browns mentioned anywhere except fan pages yet...

And right after I posted this I see a flash that the Cowboys are not/no longer interested.....

if he comes with a fair price tag I'd listen but I assume he's going to want big money and he hasn't quite been that guy since his days in Detroit...

You would think money would talk though. It was surprising that they seemingly haven’t engaged with anyone. They are one of the few teams that could get away with overpaying. Guys like Wilkerson, Trumaine Johnson and Gabriel probably would have been all ears on a max contract.

Browns expected to sign TJ Carrie.. now THAT is a good signing... (deep breath)... boy they are completely re working the secondary. I mean, it needed some work but it seems they are looking to totally gut it from last year... I wonder if we start moving guys like Boddy Calhoun (who I actually liked) or McCourty....

That would help the D for sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up someplace else if it turns into a bidding war.

I think they’re waiting for the big rush and overpaying players to run its course. Then FA’s start to worry about finding a spot and are willing to sign for a reasonable price.

Update....Colts did sign Raiders DE Denico Autry. Are they hearing rumors that Chubb will be taken at 1 or 2?

All reports are he’ll be back.

He still isn't throwing a football though, right?

He's got a lot of rust to kick, regardless.

That's what is still reported. I mention that he will be back from what Luck and Ballard reported about a month ago. After the last goof up in saying he was fine and then didn't play, I have to be the Colts wouldn't risk another PR blunder like that.

yeah i dont think they would either. It just cant be easy to just pick up a football, after 12+ months of not picking one up, and be able to throw it at a high level. Will be interesting to keep tabs on as his training progresses, especially on the local radio.

I'm wondering where these DB moves leave Peppers? Didn't get to see much of him last year because they lined him up 52 yards off the LOS. Side note: We went to a Browns game last year and my wife thought the other team was punting based on where Jabril was lined up...no lie.

Yeah it was strange... He's still moved over to box safety so I assume that means the days of him playing 40 yards off the line are gone.

Cleveland - and other teams - is undoubtedly looking at the 2019 Free Agent QB class which is pretty sparse. It also includes Tyrod Taylor, who may be the Browns' bridge to a QB in this year's class.

Wouldn't he solidify Cleveland's DL? Then draft Chubb? Colts could fill a huge need, too and Chubb may fall to them.

Ndamukong Suh's fits in NFL free agency: Colts, Browns top list

Commentary on the first two teams he ranked out of eleven:
1) Indianapolis Colts: General manager Chris Ballard could build himself quite a defensive line rather quickly by signing Suh and drafting defensive end Bradley Chubb third overall next month, though let's not put the cart ahead of the horse here. What's more important at this point is Indianapolis' cap room -- a cool $71.96 million, per Over The Cap -- and the Colts' lack of promising talent at the position. Suh could come in and immediately anchor a defensive front that finished 26th against the run in 2017.

2) Cleveland Browns: The Browns should be considered because they recently agreed to trade starting defensive tackle Danny Shelton to New England, still have tons of cap space and are relatively young along their defensive front. A line that includes Myles Garrett, Emmanuel Ogbah and an interior rotation of Suh, Trevon Coley, Caleb Brantley and Larry Ogunjobi looks pretty fearsome, at least on paper.

Suh has visited Tennessee and New Orleans and has scheduled a visit with the LA Rams. Seattle hopes to schedule a visit.

I don't see Suh in Indy. More than once Ballard has stated that he wanted to build a culture and I don't think Suh's personality would fit what he's trying to do.

Having said that, Colts signed FA TE Eric Ebron from the Lions to a $15M two year contract.

Low risk move that could pay dividends.

From the Indy Star

The Colts are now close to a one-year deal for the Redskins free-agent receiver Ryan Grant, according to NFL sources.

The deal is not official yet, according to the sources, but the Colts and Grant are expected to get it done. Grant visited the Colts on Friday but left Saturday without a contract. He was scheduled to also visit with the Raiders, but it seems no deal was reached during that stop, either.

The former Tulane standout has never missed a game in his career, but his health suddenly took center stage last week after the Ravens voided a proposed four-year, $29 million deal after they said Grant failed a physical. The deal had been agreed to by the parties prior to the physical but the Ravens walked away and, a day later, signed Raiders free-agent receiver Michael Crabtree.

Grant’s agent expressed his displeasure at the move and said Grant, who suffered an ankle injury in the season finale, had recovered and was working out after being cleared by doctors.

Suh cancelled visit to Oakland. He is back home and deciding between Tenn, New Orleans, and LA Rams.

Cap space - Tenn $45 m, LA Rams $43 m, New Orleans $7 m

If he regains even half of his Detroit form could you imagine that line in LA?!
