FAAB is just an added layer of strategy to the waiver wire. As it is now when if multiple people place waivers on the same player the person with the worse record wins the tiebreaker and gets the player. They then go to the back of the line.

With FAAB everyone can put in a blind bid on any waivers they want using their $100 pot for the season. Whoever bids the highest gets the player. If two people bid the same amount then it reverts back to the rules above. Whoever has the worse record gets the player and they go to the back of the line.

FAAB does not affect free agents. That's any player that hasn't been on a team in the last 7 days. Those players you won't need to bid on and they will be exactly the same as they have been. So people who like the stream kickers and defenses shouldn't be affected by the change.
