Or we can stop acting like a mid program and just hire the fucking OC our HC wants.
Respectfully, this is such an unrealistic expectation completely devoid of how it actually works. And, it just removes all responsibility of Marcus Freeman to actually do his job. When was the last time Brian Kelly had the BOT buyout 5-6M in contracts for a coordinator hire? He still won a lot of games.
Did Bama hire Saban's #1 OC option? No, they didn't. They hired like his 5th or 6th. They likely could have, if they "really" wanted too, right? I mean, just pay the person whatever they wanted, right? Everyone has that price. Or reality says, no program hires their #1 option at all times. Because usually those guys aren't available within reason. Ludwig wasn't available within reason. It should be, "on to the next". Not, "on to the last".
When all this started, the newly tight-lipped Gug made sure to leak that Freeman had spoken with 20-30+ candidates and that this position was extremely coveted. Where the fuck are those candidates? Where is all this interest?
We went from that to (possibly) hiring Parker and along the way... We only get 2 candidates on campus, not even speaking with other "qualified" candidates that made many peoples list, and all the while the BOT/Swarbrick only shot down ONE/SINGLE candidate. Take the beloved Freeman out of the equation and this does not add up. So, were we fed BS on the interest of the job? Did he not really talk with that many candidates? I mean, we do know that he never reached out to Joe Moorehead. We're on the verge of hiring fucking Gerad Parker as the OC to Notre Dame and Joe Moorehead didn't even get 1 of 20+ calls? And that is somehow on Jack?
This reaction is fucking absurd. The reaction the fanbase/beat writers are taking is less grounded in reality than not paying an obscene buyout for the OC nobody knew about 3 weeks ago.
