So you think this hire is at least as good as Lewis, Ludwig, Johnson or Yurich?? Seriously.....

Johnson was my #1 but he’s likely a NFL OC in days. Lewis I never saw happening.

I absolutely can see merit in Klein over Ludwig and Yurcich, who hasn’t been confirmed by anyone as a candidate.

Just as good as Lewis, a better cultural fit than Ludwig and neither Johnson or Yurcich are actually interested in the job.

So yeah...guess so. Probably not as good a hire as getting Lincoln Riley though...also, this is Notre Dame, how were we not able to get Brian Daboll to interview in front of the grotto. Swarbrick has given up...

Better cultural fit than Ludwig? Interesting as there has been much about how he would be one of the best fits.

Why is this “just as good as Lewis”? I’m actually curious. We’ve seen one year of Klein and it was against those big bad Big 12 defenses.

Agreed on all fronts. I always had a hard time believing Johnson would want this job. Why would you deal with sucking up to 18 year olds and NIL fucking everything up at the last minute when you could just focus on coaching and get paid more in the NFL?

IMO, it was his ability to adapt to his starting QB going down and still finding a way to keep the offense operating at the same level. And they were QB's with two separate skill sets as well. Shows an ability and a willingness to change the offense to best utilize his players instead of being so rooted in an offense that there is no adaptability. Changing your approach to best utilize your talent to get the best results is the mark of a great coach.

Because they are young coaches who have a number of question marks but big potential (ie without Dino Babers has Sean Lewis put points on any team with an even talent level? Is he a small stage coach? Will he gel with the rest of the O coaching staff?) etc. They are comparable in terms of fit. Maybe you like one better, maybe i like the other better.

At the end of the day this is what we should all want. Whether it is the right move in the end, we should want Freeman taking shooting his shot and nobody else’s. That’s what he’s here for.
Yep, May not be my first (or 2,3) selection , but I will be content knowing he made the choice. We'll see if it is the right one, I have hope.

Why do you want Ludwig? I’ll admit I liked the idea initially of generic Utah OC running similar-ish offense style who is seasoned. Sounds great on paper, but the more you dig into his stats the less impressive he is. None of us know anything but I wouldn’t really feel that different one way or another between the two despite them having very different resumes.

Watch his pressers. That will drive some concerns. This Notre Dame....we deserve the best. Not just an up and comer. Good fucking luck with this kid being our OC.

This hire would certainly smack of a smaller than expected check book for the hire of this position.
At least he’s not Tommy Rees, huh? 😌

Missed something here. Why has everyone agreed it will be Klein?

Loy said to expect a decision soon. Klein is believed to be the only one that’s been to campus for an interview.

Slight correction: Someone was in today to interview, but we don't know who it is at this point. Klein interviewed yesterday.

Where was that reported? I must’ve missed that. The article I read said Klein was there yesterday and into today. Could Klein have been todays visitor as well?

"The Driskell" himself reported that there was "multiple" on campus interviews.

Edit: Re-reading, he said one person was on campus yesterday the 8th (assumed Klein), and another was expected in today, the 9th.

I’m still 100% in the belief KSU would have beaten us also in 2012.

The bowl prep was that bad.

Bama came out (think it was Barrett Jones and a coach) and said they knew exactly what Diaco would be doing every single play after having a month to watch film.

They leaned on that early, but then found out ND did little to none live tackling in the lead up, and just rode Lacy through the middle of the field.

You can argue KSU would have just had the schematic and not physical advantage Bama had both of, but I truly think a loss occurs regardless.

Pair that with the Manti circus, it was doomed regardless of opponent IMO.

Disagree. If you look at the common opponent, OU, we handled them far better. Kansas State also managed to get jailsexed by Baylor 52-24 and they lost to Oregon by 2+ scores. FWIW I think we would have handled them fine, but instead we got a pissed off and disrespected Alabama team. I think we could have beaten Oregon too, but it would have been close. They also had an OT game with Stanford that season, their lone loss, but traditionally Oregon has struggled with physical teams like that. I think if we brought that same physicality we had in the Stanford game we beat Oregon in a close one.

I’m cool with it. I had some other people higher on the list, but brother could it have ended a lot worse if this is where the plane lands.
