You guys realize that the contract will say that ND can go elsewhere if UA goes bankrupt, right? It's not like we have to go down with them. They'll pay us what they promise until they can't (assuming that eventually happens), and then we leave the contract and allow the bidding to commence between Nike/Adidas/whoever. All this concern over UA potentially going under is weird.

I’m pretty sure the contract says if UA goes under then ND has to forfeit its endowment but vacate all Ws over Michigan.

To me it has more to do with one more way the admin is choosing to hamstring the coaches in recruiting. They should be removing hurdles, not adding them.

To me, its not a hurdle if the larger contract means more money for NIL, either from the apparel company or from donors that don't need to donate as much to the program and can redirect it to NIL.

My fear is that while ND isn't going to go down with the ship, it's the collateral damage amidst the fallout. If UA goes under, they're going to try and cut corners in order to salvage their enterprise.

If I'm ND, I can't trust that their product is going to remain quality (especially if the quality is currently subpar).

ND was reportedly very unhappy with UA towards the end of their agreement and did not think UA delivered as a partner. Said that he thought it was “unlikely” that ND would re-up unless the $$ was just so much more than what ND was getting from other vendors. And he didn’t think UA was in position to throw around a ton of money.

I find it crazy because 15-20 years ago playing football, it was cooler to have UA gear than Nike gear. I still have some of the heat/cold gear from that time. That stuff was way ahead of its time and still holds up.

It's wild to me too. UA gear when I was in high school was THE football gear.

I wasn't so surprised--they were quite the upstart for a while but there is only one brand in American sports that can weather the trends and just stay relevant. All the others seem to wane and wax with new generations. The surprising thing was how long UA stayed popular, I thought they'd disappear a lot sooner.

I think they screwed up by becoming too mainstream. Their quality took a major hit. I was gifted an under armour pullover a couple of years ago. I couldn’t believe how poorly constructed it was compared to their early stuff.

I remember feeling extremely left out sophomore year after the UA order sheet went around the locker room. I didn’t know what it was, really, so when the orders came in, I just looked on in sadness as the juniors and seniors opened the most badass sleeveless shirts for the warm months, awesome looking long sleeves to save for playoff time, and “special” style cleats you couldn’t get at Dicks.

Also: it’s funny the style now is loose-fitting long sleeves for a lot of guys, when it used to be “what is the smallest size UA shirt I can realistically put on, and how many teammates will need to help me get it off after the game?”

Under armour’s biggest issue IMO is that their logo looks like shit on a shoe. Nike swoop and even the adidas stripes look so much cleaner.

I own a fair amount of UA gear. Hoodies, tees, long sleeve, sneakers - basically some of everything.

I coach MS track and the HS coach puts together a clothing order that's mostly UA. My brother is an AD at a college that deals with UA, so I also have a decent amount of shirts and hoodies through him.

The hoodie quality is still fine, imo. I don't think it's any better than Nike, but I don't have issues with them. I've always found the sneakers to be comfortable for daily wear, but not great for running. And, almost always ugly.

My biggest issue the last few years is the sizing of the tees and long sleeves and their quality.

Sizing has been all over the place. I am a large and some years they seem to run closer to a medium and than other years closer to an XL. Terribly inconsistent. They also don't hold up nearly as well as UA stuff that I still have from when I started coaching a decade ago.

Completely agree. I’ve got a UA Indiana State tee that I bought when I graduated in 2010 and it’s in better shape than some ND UA gear I’ve gotten within the last four years.
