Good to see you and TheRealLynch are back. You were missed. So when 2024 ends up like 2023 - a Top 12 type class.... will rankings not matter or will you fall back on the BCR % argument? Are we still thinking the mantra "Gap Closing" or more the angle "balance class and a great fit"?

Seems to me 2023 / 2024 Freeman's first two classes are not going to be as good as Kelly's last two classes. But silly me, I forgot class rankings are silly, subjective bullshit, right?
It's remarkable how often you defeat your own argument.

You try to use Kelly's last 2 classes (2021 and 2022) as "gotcha" moment when considering balance.

Bruh, we took ONE receiver in 2022.

We took ONE LB in 2021, after taking ZERO in 2020.

How in the hell is that balanced?

Heck, think about what 2022 would be like if Freeman wasn't part of the staff, or even if Kelly didn't leave. You aren't getting Billy Schrauth or Gi'Bran Payne. You aren't getting Jaylen Sneed without Freeman.

You can't land 1 receiver in a class after losing all of the receivers you had in 2019 and 2020 and call it balanced.

That's ignoring the fact that more than half of the 2021 class is no longer on roster.

I used to work with his father. The man is very open about his hatred for the white man. Seems like an angry family.

I’m a shockingly pasty even for a white guy but Pops and I have been close since meeting thru the ND Club. Then again, I can still dunk so maybe I’m just getting a pass?

You’ve obviously never seen his social media page, granted I have not for awhile but it got pretty insane, so insane I think he made another account to distance himself from himself. Lol.

Time will tell, but Freeman's QB classes on paper are much better once Kelly left.
Way too early… Kelly landed studs in HS but they didn’t pan out… I’m completely good with blaming his qb development

I really thought wimbush was going to be the one

There will be some ticked off people here if that occurs
10-2 should be the worst this team goes record wise if Hartman is Hartman and our WRs are just good and so most irish fans should be pissed at 8-4 predictions by insiders. listening to a podcast the other day and they basically were saying that our WRs don't have to be great this season for us to have a great year if Hartman is on his game.

Most power raters have us going 8-4. Figured it would at least be 10-2.
Most of those raters also have three teams we play ranked ahead of us. By their math 9-3 probably feels like the ceiling?

FWIW I feel like the national media - and perhaps the metrics? - maybe don’t see Hartman as the game-changer that we do. Will be curious to see who is correct.

If 8-4 is where people are putting money up then this is about the Coaching Staff. They didn't do well last year and three of our games we will likely not be favored. So a 4th loss is a trap game or another fuckup. Losing to Marshall and Stanford with last year's roster was not a good start for Freeman. Yet I don't see any leeway for the Clemson win.

At 8-4 if that is where people are putting money down that is basically saying you are not great coaching staff so you need to prove it.

I have them going 9-3 personally this year and I tend to be a bad naysayer so I am not sure the logic on 8-4.

I think 10-2 would be very good for the program because that means, likely, Freeman and the program took care of business and beat at least one of the Big 3 Opponents. I think 11-1 is likely a pipedream but should get a serious CFP look..... But with an unproven OC and a pretty inexperienced HC from the defensive side of the ball. We have the same issue as last year - Freeman doesn't have the substantial experience to oversee the offense.

I would feel much, much better had ND opened up their fucking wallet and hired Ludwig. We just have to hope Gerad outperforms as the OC.

An 8-4 season will result in Freeman’s seat starting to get hot, and rightfully so. With a top 10 QB, top 10 OL, and a top 15 RB, Notre Dame should be roll out of bed with 9 wins.

Only reason I see 11-1 is Hartman and inexperience with qb at Clemson and osu… I also think Caleb Williams may protect himself some this year

I was listening to Locked On Irish. I really like their podcast. Tyler and Gregg were debating the reasons why MF and ND are not landing 5 stars and I think it was decent analysis.

Personally, I think ND needs to figure out NIL, join the SEC and take Nike as apparel company. 5 stars want money, they want to play in the best league and want to wear cool apparel. The NIL and League affiliation is so important for the best players. If ND was truly serious about Nattys they would figure this out. The Big1G and ACC don't cut it. There is a reason OK and Texas are joining the SEC. Recruits want to play in the SEC.

10-2 is doable, I do have ND losing to Clemson and I think ND has to win 1 of 2 games between OSU & USC. I think ND's trap game this year is Duke (after the OSU game).

It will take more than an 8-4 season to put just Freeman on the hot seat, if we did go 8-4 Golden or Washington will not be here for 2024.

Our offense will keep us in games, if we get to an 8-4 type of season throughout the year one has to wonder when Freeman will take over the play calling duties for defense.

My question I have for Hartman would be if he is ready to have all eyes on him being the Notre Dame quarterback, but I think he has handled the situation very well and I was impressed by what I saw at the B&G game.

You suggesting that ND should join the SEC is about one of the dumbest comments I have seen you make.

Now that Freeman has experience under his belt and has a more open relationship with the OC I think you will see Freeman say Yes/No more this year.

It’s not dumb if ND is looking to land the best recruits possible. The south, as were many of the best recruits are. Being in the SEC would give rivalries in that area which would really help with recruiting.

Why do people think Clemson is a sure loss? What scares you on their team other than Dabo being very hungry and better coaches than last year. Plus probably night game

There’s only a handful of starters I’m trading for with Clemson.

We can lose the game no doubt, but penciling it in.

Similar to last season, I view 8-4 as unacceptable for the talent on the roster. That result would fall on coaching, development, preparation, etc.

I also think it’s very unlikely to happen.
I agree - 8-4 is a very pessimistic read of things. I like our chances against SC at home. I think OSU even at home and Clemson at Death Valley will both be very tough games. I then think due to the inexperience of the staff there will be a trap game loss.. Possibly Duke or Louisville. That is my feeling on getting to 9-3 which still would be progress. But with this QB I just wish the staff had more experience.

They don't lose at home...prior to last season they had a 40 game home winning streak.
