ND's Talking Heads ... The good, bad & ugly

That was a bit out of context.

The conversation was about how they don't really think Watt is ready unless Harry was going to be around in some sort of analyst, mentor role (which he's not) so they joked about how Harry still lives close by and he can pick his brain all he wants.

Prister did suggest that he'd be fine with Watt, ultimately. But I got the impression he's not his, or anyone else's, first choice.

Just my take on that segment.

I thought he was pretty direct in the way he said "I think he's ready."(nbd, just different perception)

All good. I heard him say it too and it shocked me. I'm just not sure how much he believes that. Which ultimately is my problem with the overall beat in general.

I also listened to the podcast yesterday and was thinking "wasn't sending guys over to Hiestand's house for extra training exactly what people were so pissed off at Quinn for?" If Watt had been training under Hiestand for a ton of time, I'd feel a lot more comfortable. But it's been one year. Go swing your nuts around and steal a great O line coach

Of the reasons nobody would hire Driskell to be a coach (note: he topped out at Defiance College, which is the kind of place good coaches go to as a start), this is pretty far down the list. The guy is a twerp, and it boggles the mind that people think he's a legitimate source for anything.

He's begging for something in this case because he (and the rest of the beat) were shown to have no actual insight into what was going on. It's a significant problem for them in keeping their revenue stream, and ultimately their job. For Driskell specifically, why should SI continue to contract with him when he is so obviously in the dark?
I disagree on the premise Driskell got it wrong. His intel was spot-on. He also had the gumption to run with it. Props to him and I was surprised he went all Genghis Kahn on Savvy Jack and RP the III. I thought he was going to have a heart attack.

Where Driskell is lost is the notion that Freeman would agree with him and thereby openly blame his boss. Freeman knows how to do the Corporate Two-Step like any other big corporation executive.

Driskell I think then realized his vexing problem. He can be an honest beat report and critique management and lose even more access and subscribers or he can go back to his old homerish ways and keep some ability to have access and keep the salty peanuts of the world paying his bills. After slurping down a few Dews and Built Bars he decided on the latter approach and not the former.

So I have been trying to cancel my 247 but it's like going in actual circles. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Right but the real key is that Prister and others would be okay with the players going to see Harry in an off field capacity because Watt, like Quinn, isn’t a good enough coach. Whether the OL coach gives his blessing to receive outside help mid season or not is imo irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that they shouldn’t need to.

Like trying to cancel Comcast?? (Although with canceling Comcast you simply would end up with a larger invoice the next month!)

I feel like hiring Watt would bring the upside of having HH as an overseer even if its in an unofficial capacity. That's probably his USP at this time. I don't think its enough for him to land the job though.

When he said he thinks Watt is ready to be an OL coach at the highest CFB levels, I about came out of my chair. One of the other 2 chowder heads followed it up with "Heistand lives in SB, he can ask Harry whatever questions he wants."

what the hell.
That was one of those moments where I had to seriously ask if Prister was qualified to do his job.

Yep,

The Great IE Mass Cancellation Movement of 2014, it's a pain in the ass. Although at least you are going in circles and not waiting on a response from Mike Frank like some have reported.

Yep, just canceled mine as Tom Loy is a no sourced diddler. I had to send an email to the email they put on the cancelation page and they canceled it for me. It was support@247sports.com
You just need to be patient. Those sources are coming, he just needs more time to kiss enough ass that the newbies start giving him info again.

Update for anyone that cares about me trying to cancel my ISD subscription: sent a cancelation email to the email they give you to cancel 9 days ago. Never received an email back. Tried calling the number they gave and no one picked up. I ended up just deleting all my payment info and hope the system cant charge anything.

Latest II pod, I'm reasonably sure that ND football leadership could shit in Prister's mouth and he would insist it was good.
This raises an interesting point.

Clearly, as of now the media is severely lacking in inside sources from the MF coaching staff. Cant help but wonder what the media has to do to develop trust and connections from the current staff.

A lot of hit pieces and erroneous tweets about neglected buy outs will get MF’s attention.

For sure, they're SoL for the time being. Especially, I think, because Freeman is so young and inexperienced in the HC role and is really leaning into an old school mentality. "Lean on the defense, RTDB, run a tight ship, everything goes through me, I'm the lead recruiter", etc, etc. Everybody's is tight-lipped.

BUT... there will come a time when Freeman or someone wants info to be put out for public consumption in an oblique manner, and then the relationship blossoms. The services get to leech off The Brand for dollars and the team gets to control messaging to an extent. They'll get their sources again, sometime, but they're flailing around right now.

And until they get those sources again, I'm saving my $26 a month and canceling. I'll buy Driskell some Mountain Dew and Cheetos with the savings.

This is why I use a burner virtual card with a set limit for these subscriptions.

Some sites are weird about it, but the Privacy app has worked well.

My take rightly or wrongly is that:
247 has the most access, but are the biggest homers
Driskell is the most honest, but least plugged in
Rivals is still around
on3 is Sports Illustrated for Kids
