Oof. Wasserman in particular is a big loss. Love him or hate him, the dude knows recruiting and has an edge to his writing that keeps you engaged.
I've been a fan and advocate of The Athletic for a long time but I feel like it has really slipped over the last year or two. Their stable of college football writers has thinned quite a bit, and the ones who are left seem to spend too much time writing about Deion Sanders, a video game and sports betting odds (I realize there's a market for these things, but it's cheap and easy, unlike the smart, deep, looks at the sport and its teams and players and coaches they used to specialize in.) Frankly it's gotten even worse in a lot of other sports.
Pete's stuff is still fine but not what it was. I also wonder how much of that has to do with reduced access from the program. Some of his best work for The Athletic has involved in-depth interviews with players/coaches. Which is harder when you can't talk with them. Last week he wrote a good piece about Loren Landow, without actually talking to Landow (he went to Denver and talked to his acolytes there). There are only so many ways/times you can make that move.
