That was a decent class in terms of planned roster numbers management. Statistically you'd like to get about 8-9 starters in each cycle. That class had "seven" with double starters at Will and RB. It also had three special teamers who played. And one could argue that Toma was a starter as well.

When a coaching staff gets good numbers like that, plus high-quality talents, it is most of the way there to start building a team. Note however the huge hole in the defensive line and at Quarterback. Plus only two contributors on the Oline isn't optimal either. We suffered for all of those.

Coach Kelly came in with a stable of players only partially full, and with no chance to do much that first rushed truncated cycle. What an astonishing job he's done repairing almost every hole.

Top 10 finish is good enough for me, but wouldn't be surprised with a top 5 this year.

We are actually 3rd on 24/7 and #6 in the Composite.

Isn't this so weird? We're in the top 3ish on every single site... yet #6 in composite???? Makes you wonder if their conversion formula from Scout/Rivals/ESPN is too flawed.

Hah yeah I had to look twice just to make sure I had it right. Kind of bizarre, but I will put my stock rankings wise into the individual prospect composites and average of the class rankings across the bill rather than their formula.

So is composite just the average of how each site ranks a recruit?

Like if a guy is 3,5,7,4,1 on 5 different sites his composite would be 4? Is this correct?

Per 24/7:

247Composite Rating

The 247Composite Rating is a proprietary algorithm that compiles prospect "rankings" and "ratings" listed in the public domain by the major media recruiting services. It converts average industry ranks and ratings into a linear composite index capping at 1.0000, which indicates a consensus No. 1 prospect across all services.

The 247Composite Rating is the industry's most comprehensive and unbiased prospect ranking and is also used to generate 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings.

More details

All major media services share an equal percentage in the 247Composite Rating.

The composite index equally weights this percentage among the services that participate in a ranking for that specific prospect.

A composite strength meter, indicated by red bars, illustrates the total number of industry services that have ranked the prospect. A full strength meter indicates the prospect has been ranked by all industry services participating in the composite.

All industry services have a different philosophy on number of "stars" distributed with each class. The 247Composite Rating assigns stars based on an approximate average distribution of stars from the industry.

I blame ESPN with absolutely no evidence to back it up and purely out of blind hatred.

i think ive seen that they take the Maxpreps rankings into account too. Idk if that's just for player composite or the team rankings too.

Must be some sort of miscalculation in the composite? I mean OSU are behind us in each of the rankings but somehow rank 3 spots above us in the composite. USC are ranked 7,8,8,10 over all the services but are somehow come in at 5th in the composite, one spot ahead of ND.

The composite class rankings is not based on the class ranking on each class but on the composite score of each commit. Each site rates the classes differently so they couldn't just add up each rating and divide by 4. It's all based on some algorithm they use.

Invasive spying techniques first perfected by JohnnyKillz attempting to infiltrate Sandia National Laboratories and Girls' dorms at the University of New Mexico have been used to bring to light the 24/7 composite formula. It is in several parts:

a] ({ 2x3} x2) / 4 = 6;
b]. ( 7+8+8+11) / 4 = 5;
c]. O+S+U= 3;
etc.

I trust that this lays the mystery to rest.

I hope you have a "Q Clearance."

That was, was I reiterate, classified material. ;)

My clearance is so high [I'm close to OMM0910], that I forced declassification of all this material except for your middle name [which I preserve in darkness to avoid "political" difficulties between you and Sarah Palin].

yours, Agent OMM, clearance level Q*-Ultra reference Alpha-Alpha-3 OPNAC Zed.
