Actually I know a lot about basketball I’ve played it and my brother played college basketball. If Cox didn’t get hurt ND isn’t even close in this one.

If that is your analysis on how the game would go then you are dumber than everyone on here thinks

Really because when Cox was in there the game wasn’t close. What’s wrong with my statements facts are facts one person on the team throws up a wild shot then jogs back on defense you can’t stand around and not dive after a lose ball and expect to win a title

Great comeback and a great game. Looks like the energy in the building got to our nerves at the end. We started making rushed decisions and shots. If we had been able to play more in control we win that game by 4+. Great season and this group will be missed. They did so much for our University and Women’s basketball. Good luck at the next level girls.

And Notre Dame was down by 9 with less than eight minutes to go and came back and beat UConn. They were down to Stanford and came back and won. Neither of them had any player go out so why couldn't it happen with Baylor. Notre Dame went from 17 down to seven down with Cox in the game. The freshman that replaced her actually had more points and almost the same amount of rebounds than Cox had in half the minutes. You see a player not go for one lose ball and you conclude she will play like that the entire game. Those are not facts those are your conclusions and, as I said, very stupid...as all of your posts are.

Damn that’s a shame. Three big missed free throws down the stretch.

But I can't even be mad at Arike, at least not on the offensive side. She had over 30 and Young only 4. Not sure what happened there. Even Shepard didn't really have a typical game for her.

Actually I saw the same player drive throw up a wild shot complain because of no foul and jog back on defense 5 times.

You haven’t contributed to this thread all season and you wanna start now with your trolling in here. Get outta here and go back to the hole you came from. These ladies gave their blood sweat and tears for four years to the university, to the program, to women’s basketball. No one ever plays perfectly and they didn’t tonight but they left it all out on the floor. They deserve our respect and admiration.

Amazing season and careers from these women! It was an honor to be able to watch them play. We may never see this amount of talent in a starting five ever again. This one does hurt though, especially because they weren't able to put together one of their signature comebacks in their last time playing together. I hope tonight they can have some fun and celebrate all that they did accomplish before they have to go their separate ways in the draft in a few days. As for us, lets get the thread for next year started and start speculating on transfers, starting candidates, and Jackie's decision!

I haven't been following the team all year but I watched the game. ND was rushing shots or not getting set before a shot. They were awful in the paint and went to the three point shot too often, too early in my opinion. It just seemed like they were playing with a sense of urgency way too early once they got down.

I give them all the credit for pulling it even/close near the end after being down double digits for awhile but it was too little, too late. I also think they leaned on Arike too often when it was clear she was playing cold tonight.

Also, shooting under 40% when the other team is shooting over 50% is not going to cut it.

Congrats to Baylor, they earned it.

Sadly ... too cold early and the narrowest of shortfalls.

What a REALLY GREAT season for Muffet and our ladies.

How about the @#$%-come latelys just shutting up and praising the most praiseworthy team on campus? (incredible how little social intelligence and how much self-absorption some people have.)

God bless you, Muffet, The Staff, Jess, Brianna, Arike, Marina, Jackie, Abby, Mykaela, Danielle, and our reserves. Thank you for a WONDERFUL ride.

We just couldn't get any clean looks in the paint and Jackie and Shep normally get most of their point close in. I guess I'll have to watch the tape, I was at the game and it sure seemed like they hit us on almost every missed shot.

Pretty much. Officiating was horrible for 3 quarter. Finally started to call it right in the 4th.

Just caught up on the DVR. That was a tough game. I do think Cox getting hurt helped us. Not a knock on ND, but she was the one really disrupting our offense and after she came out things went a lot smoother. But, yeah, too cold early, and just one too many missed free throws late.
Either way, damn what a team. We'll miss this bunch.

Baylor was clearly the better team up until the injury, but that doesn't take away from what these ladies did. They showed the heart of a champion to come all the way back.

I know many of us have been tough on Arike but damn, 31 points and having the smarts to drive and get fouled instead of hoping for another wild 3 point miracle. Wish she would have made both shots but this loss wasn't on her. She worked her butt off. I imagine fatigue had as much to do with missing that shot as nerves. Probably more. Heck of a 4 year ride these ladies have taken us on. I've been honored to witness it. Hopefully our young bucks will be able to handle the legacy they've been given.

Agree, I don't put this on her. As long as Muffet is driving the bus, we'll be in good shape no matter who's gone.

It wasn't on one person for sure. It's sad that we tied the game with about 5 minutes to go and didn't hit a shot the rest of the game and still almost managed to win. If we could have maintained our focus and not let adrenaline get the best of us, I think we win that game in similar fashion to Friday night.

I don't think the criticism is wrong. Once Cox went down, our girls went on the first sustained run of the game. Cox had basically shut down Shepard for the first three quarters. The twin towers for Baylor were tough, and that is why they dominated almost everyone in the tournament short of the Irish. They are an exceptional team.

With Cox out, I think their center Brown started to get exposed. She is heavier and slower than Cox and ND seemed to get to the rim more with Cox out. If Cox stays in the game, I see no reason to believe it would be closer than a 7 point Baylor win.

Young played good defense, but scoring wise-had a disappointing couple of games to end the tournament. She can be lightning when her shots are falling, but it just wasn't there for her.

That being said, I would like to thank the team and the coaches for another wonderful season. This has been a really nice run with this group, and they play with exceptional heart and determination. They NEVER gave up. Heart of champions no matter what the score board says.

Shout outs:

I love the feistiness of Mabrey, she is my favorite player on this team. She is a leader through and through. Ogunbowale had a great overall game start to finish, though Baylor made her take lots of shots to get her points. She also played better defense in the second half when ND made their run. Turner had a very quiet, but productive game as usual. Didn't get the usual number of blocks, but her opponents were both bigger and taller than she is so it is understandable.

Overall a wonderful year for the ladies. Can't wait to see the new faces next year.

Is the consensus that Young is gone to the WNBA or do you think she comes back next year?

It's one thing to be critical, it's another to be an asshole and that's what Mercy was doing and it's basically the only thing he does on here. Notice how ND made the comeback and he didn't offer one post of positivity for the ladies. Then when they lost he found his way back on here to once again hammer the players.

It was frustrating to see Jessica and Jackie not play up to what they are capable of playing. Certainly Baylor had our number for most of the game and Cox going down seemed to be a huge shift in the game. We almost took advantage but couldn't finish it out.

It seems more think she is gone as she's projected to be a top 5 pick but I don't think anyone knows for sure. The draft is two days away so we should hear soon.

I don't know of another team in women's basketball who could have come from behind like the Women Irish did, especially against a Baylor team that has been so dominant against everyone. The face on the Baylor team and Mulkey showed a measure of fear that I imagine they never felt before. Despite not being able to stop Brown and Smith, ND was a whirlwind as the threes began dropping. Arike was terrific. The only thing you can attribute Cox's absence to is the loss of some rebounds and blocks. I would like to see our scoring inside the paint after she left. The ladies were swishing inside of clanking with the defense picking up in the ferocious comeback. I also found myself yelling "Why did you foul?" which seemed out of character. Regardless, what an historic season that will be a standard going forward. Muffet and our women have so much to be proud of.

One small thought on Baylor being obviously better:

We lost the game on the scoreboard basically in one quarter, the first. But when you look at the stats, we outrebounded them in the first half and were equal or better on all the statistics except one --- they were crazy hot and we were abnormally cold.

Now one can still attribute that to Baylor and Coxe if one wants to, but i think that a case can be made for "wrong game/ wrong time." What if one of our girls was cookin' in the first half, and one of theirs wasn't quite so hot? After-all, we proved that we could play with them in three of the four quarters and a bit better.

Baylor won the game, that's clear. But who wins the ten-game series? I'm still betting that we figure them out better than they figure us. That doesn't stop the trophy going into their display case, but I can see a ghostly vision of it in ours.....

Agree. We have to give Baylor their due for their defense on our perimeter players. They are a balanced defensive team.

The gentleman analyst (I was watching at the bar and did not have sound - only captions) in the pregame show thought the Irish transition game and guard play may propel them to the win. So in a multi-game series, you could be right. In fact the last quarter I think ND had started to figure out the Baylor defense and was starting to get more open shots and points in transition. But they also had a couple of key turnovers near the basket which did not help down the stretch.

Jackie is gone. Next year will be tough losing all five starters. Best of luck to her.
