I haven't seen any of these people play, but their college basketball records so far are not inspiring.
I'm trying to resist saying that Ivey is not up for the job, but this roster could collapse if she doesn't start getting more and better players. Brown was highly rated in HS and almost came to ND. But she basically hasn't played for two years and has minimal stats to make one say: Wow, great pick-up. Maybe she will be, but she hasn't shown it and was a very slow healer. Ebo is big and started some for Texas, but her stats don't pop. She hasn't scored much yet, and seems a so-so rebounder. Hopefully she'll take a big step up and become a good center and not a place-holder. Watkins is also big on paper, and has shown even less. None of these three players seem ready to really boost scoring. KKBransford supposedly is good, but not with HS stats like Miles or Citron or the typical Connecticut recruit. AND SHE'S THE ONLY ADDITION. What the heck went on there? AND three players didn't want to play for Ivey and entered the portal. Ivey lost me with her assessment of Bransford when she said that she was like Jackie Young and Arike Ogumbawale. There couldn't be two different players. It was a bullsh!t comment.
I don't like the feel of any of that. Losing portal players and recruitment battles and then desperately trying to fill a serviceable roster with transfers doesn't sound at all like good planning and management. The only upside in the near future is that Miles and Citron will win a bunch of games almost on their own. This year if Maddy will rebound (Maybe with some help from Marshall and Ebo) and Dara can regularly bomb opponents eyes out, we could win a lot of them. Miles will become the best player in the country. If Ivey doesn't get better at this player management thing, she may be gone to the WNBA after this year. I'm no pessimist griper, but I'm WAY not comfortable with what I see just now. We'll be at least OK good this year --- with our remaining four how could we not be? I'm not sure what Gilbert's status is. She'd be a potentially big help.
