Ga Tech beating Louisville by 3 with 2:17 to go. Winning at Louisville will not be easy, but all our remaining games are certainly winnable.

Tech should have won this game but played terrible down the stretch. Louisville is pretty tough defensively but they are bad offensively. Outside of Harrell inside and Rozier they have no scoring threats. I think Syracuse will be a more difficult opponent for us than will Louisville. Thankfully we play Cuse at home so we should have the edge there. Great chance to win out and finish 2nd or 3rd in the ACC.

Though to be fair, we didn't look all that good against Tech either (both games). That being said, no excuse to not be 27-4 to end the year.

Awesome. Down goes #8 Kansas. Worst-case scenario we're #8 in both polls next week as long as we can take care of business tomorrow night.
I wonder if people will drop KU down to a 3-seed now. They've got the #1 RPI, but those losses are adding up. 22-6 isn't the prettiest record.

Huge game tonight. I hope the crowd brings it, because we're going to need them. They've been pretty tame the last couple home games. Gotta get through this one, then we have 8 days until Louisville. Plenty of time for us to be ready, cause you know Pitino will throw something weird at us.
Everyone ranked close to us seems to beating themselves up, and most teams ranked 10-20 have some big games down the stretch. I really think 3-0 to end the regular season and a win in the ACC quarters locks us in as a #3 seed.

Ya i agree. Need a very good showing tonight. As much as cuse isnt even in the conversation (obviously because of the ban) they still play hard and they are a good team. Outside of xmas they dont have many scorers. Lets keep up the hot shooting and get this win tonight and prep for Louisville.

That 3 he hit against Duke was so clutch, but I wish he had buried that one against Pitt...gotta love the confidence Grant has in him though considering he's the #5 scorer.
Ya that was unfortunate that would have been a huge 3 too in back to back games but didnt go down for him.
I dont know if anyone knows or said this before but patty has been sick the past 2 games we have played so other guys helped in his absence. He is healthy for this game.

I ran into an old friend of mine last night at the 247sports get together with Tom Loy in Hollywood. My friend is an ND grad and the former boy's basketball coach at LaLumierre Academy (80's) in LaPorte. He is now on the BoD at LaLu.
I asked him why ND can't get LaLu players and he said the first one they've been able to recruit because of academics is current All American, Jalen Coleman who has verballed to Illinois but still could end up in South Bend as he could step right into Grant's shoes.
There has been a lot of talk about why ND can't get kids from a prestigious academic school that is 25 miles form the Dome and I was one of them but coming from him, now I know.
Thought I'd share that with my fellow hoopers.

I was just thinking about this the other day when i was looking at recruiting. Never understood why we cant pull this guys that are so close to home and they are really good players. Even the guys that grow up in chicago you would think we had the edge. I really hope we can be players for Caleb swaingan. That kid is an absoulte monster.

Notre Dame basketball recruiting is probably never going to be a consistent powerhouse like football is. Kids don't want to play class in basketball way more than in football, and add in that our facilities are below average and our fan support is also slightly below average, and it's a miracle Brey can pull much of anything.

How does Duke do it?
I remember when ND's student section was the best in the country. I never liked the ACC / Joyce / Purcell (or whatever it's called this year) but they've put a lot of lipstick on the pig and it looks great in pictures. When I was a kid in the 70's home games were completely off the chain. UCLA, DePaul, Marquette. Hoops Heaven.

Great question, and one that I ask myself. One of the best coaches in the game, and no football to compete with it. If you think about it, there's not one small, good academic school that is big in football and basketball. Not enough fans. Duke gets basketball, Stanford gets football (kind of). Tough to succeed academically and in both sports.

At the risk of being a cynical "hater" (I actually have no problem w/ Duke or Coach K), don't most of the bball players major in the same thing & it's usually something that gives you the impression it's a BS major. I'm probably wrong, but they sure pull a lot of top recruits. Granted you only need a few great ones for a basketball roster vs football roster, but I get the impression that those McDonald's All-Americans couldn't qualify at ND or Stanford.

There are a bunch of teams that win with good students. Even Kentucky's Trey Lyles had a 3.8 in high school. Emeka Okafor won a national championship, went #2 in the NBA Draft, and was an Academic All-American. Marcus Paige at UNC has a 3.4. Jabari Parker graduated 18th and went to Duke. It's a very weak excuse.
