ND's long-term problem has been underwhelming tournament performances. This was true under Brey, too, until 2015. Hopefully the recent period of tournament success continues (no reason to think it won't).

For the record, "average" here literally means the average all-time overall win % (60%) and all-time tournament win % (50%) for the teams included in the chart.

Don’t want to nit-pick, but this graph shows that Alabama has a higher overall winning pct then ND which is false. ND .650 vs Bama .617. Sorry but I hate Bama.

Add these fantastic 4 to Durham, the transfer from UCONN, and hot damn! Brey and his staff are crushing it. Looking forward to another great season and many to follow. Seriously, just an unbelievable job.

I would think we get Chris Doherty given his offer list. It's not impressive, but if Brey likes him, why not?

247 has the class #7

That doesn't even include the effect of getting Durham.

I went to the 247 class calculator and I added a kid with same composite ranking that Durham had and the projected team score was 65.19.

That score would be good enough for #1 in the team rankings.

If they were to get Doherty, then they'd be in the market for a transfer big if he jumped off the page like Juwan Durham and that's probably it.

2018 (12)
Rex Pfleuger 6'6'' 206 SR
Elijah Burns 6'8'' 238 RS JR
TJ Gibbs 6'3'' 188 JR
John Mooney 6'9'' 248 JR
Juwan Durham 6'11'' 215 RS SO
Nikola Djogo 6'7'' 211 RS SO
DJ Harvey 6'6'' 220 SO
Prentiss Hubb 6'2'' 170 FR
Robby Carmody 6'4'' 185 FR
Dane Goodwin 6'4'' 185 FR
Nate Laszewski 6'10'' 200 FR
Chris Doherty 6'8'' 225 FR

If they were indeed to pick up a transfer it would limit the 2019 class to needing only 1-2 players without taking into consideration transfers. But with basketball recruiting, if a good prospect presents themselves, Brey doesn't mind having a small class and getting only 1 or 2 guys cause then he can go after studs. Look up Isaiah Stewart, he's a plug and play big who is absolutely dominant at the high school level, playing for one of the best high school teams in the country. Should be fun!

Brey with this talent .... giggitty!

Can't wait for next Thursday - first game at JACC in a decade for me and sitting two rows behind the bench.

That’s a good long roster. The fun shall continue.

ND landed Chris Doherty today to go along with this year's haul.

The commitment moves ND up to the #5 ranked class.

Looking stuff up - Rivals Basketball recruiting has ND as independent, not in the ACC - c'mon man.

I don't really understand this pick up - rather see an extra guy picked up next year for a little more roster balance. Don't want to bag on the kid but seems like an unnecessary filler.

just read a tweet indicating that this kid is criminally underrated and likely will lead the acc in rebounding in years to come...i don't follow any recruiting for basketball just watch the games...just reporting what i saw

Great to hear! Looks like a bruiser so fits the narrative. Just have the uncomfortable feeling Brey is not used to having so many great options and has a hard time turning down kids like this he lived off of in the past. Opportunity cost is not something Brey has had to deal with...ever.

You can't have all thoroughbreds. You need a plow horse to do the dirty work.

Having watched some film on Doherty, he seems like the type that if he were 3 inches taller he would be a high 4 star. I guess the question then is what his wingspan is like. Bonzie is able to go over a lot of people to get rebounds because he has that long wingspan and the athleticism some bigs lack. Doherty looks to have that athleticism and grit, so if he also has the long arms to make up the height difference, he could be lethal.

Got me a couple of free tickets in a suite for the Crossroads Classic. Purdue - Butler to open with the Irish laying the wood to the Hoosiers in the second game. I'm ready.

But those are the players we are use to settling for - shopping down a different aisle now and I am saying we may have wanted to leave room in the cart for next year. Looks like he will toughen up the whole team - I like that. Don't mean to over question Brey's magic mojo.

They still have room for 2 guys next year plus Doherty will most likely redshirt which would place him in next years class. I say take them when you can get them. Some big teams like MSU were after Doherty late.

99.9% chance Doherty will be doing the 5 year plan, so he’ll pretty much be like a 2019 recruit anyway. This is a good pickup, he was getting interest from some of the big dogs recently.

Chris Doherty is an excellent pickup. They have 12 guys signed for next season and Brey doesn’t play that many guys so it’s a perfect opportunity to bring in a developmental big to redshirt and learn the offense and things like that. Doherty seems to be approaching the same plan as Austin Torres but I think he’s a better prospect and when all is said and done he’ll be a 6’7”-6’8” 240-250lb beast of a big man that will help ND when they face a midwestern big ten foe or some huge team in the ACC. This is a great pickup by Brey. Continues to build a dynamite roster

The red shirt situation will be interesting. We may have kids with NBA options as juniors down the road so why redshirt. Also bigger talent might have bigger expectations of PT. I can see Brey extending the bench a bit with more talent back there but looking at that 12 man roster I don't see a lot of dead weight.

Hope they aim high for 2019 - bring in two really good ones and keep the fire burning. Some size would be nice.

Link is to a pretty in depth article about Doherty. Granted the article is a year and a half old, but it gives you some insight into what kind of player this guy is and how hard of a worker he is.

Hometown pride, and the bullish art of Marlborough’s hardwood wunderkind - Boston High School Blog- ESPN

Things Doherty is compared to in the article: a diesel big rig, kamikaze, a bulldozer, a thoroughbred horse, a charging rhino, a Ferrari, and a ball of inferno.

So in some good news for the basketball team we are hosting Isaiah Stewart a 5* PF originally from Rochester ny. I live in Rochester and saw him play and he’s a monster this would be the best recruit we have ever gotten.
He will be visiting in February. Not sure what exact date yet but it’s great news
