He's a Boston College decommit.
Only as a preferred walk on though I believe. Looks as if we were his only other offer from a power conference? If rivals is correct on that, it's a bit disturbing.
Mid majors like Creigton and Butler were next in life to offer.
We had an extra scholarship, this kid is a winner, battles, works his arse off, and is the type that will get better bc of his desire and work ethic. He is a glue guy thatyou need on your team. He is not an ACC starting pg as a freshman or even a soph, but I think with a redshirt year, he'll eventually contribute. And with an extra scholly to give, thisis not a bad guy to give it to.
I'm the first guy to say that I think Brey needs to recruit better, but I'm OK with this late signing...

so he will be the Bruce Heggie of ND MBB?
6'9" 230. Averaged 13.6 and 8.6 this past year. Immediate eligibility. Yes please. This is literally exactly what we need. We have a great team going into next year if we can get an impact big-man transfer.
I should have added that assuming Jackson makes a big step forward, I think we have a pretty stacked back court heading into next year. Grant was putting up 19 and 6 (crazy assists for a SG) and he's had nothing to do but play basketball the last few months. I'm hoping he comes back improved like McAlarney. I think the expectation for him is to be scoring 20+ a game next year to go along with his usual 5-6 assists. Connaughton improved his scoring averaged by 4.9 points this past year and averaged 13.8 and 7.1. I don't think its unrealistic to expect another jump and 15+ points a game from him. If DJ can take a step forward, I'd take those three guards against any in the country. Vasturia, Beachem, Burgett, Auguste all showed flashes and if we could just get solid improvement from all 4 to go along with a guy like Lee who would solidify the 5 position for us, then, yes, I think we'd have a pretty stacked team for next year.
All that may come to pass but the front court situation is much more dire than you make it out to be. All of our bigs have fatal flaws that make them a huge liability at one end of the court or the other. Burgett might be the most balanced of the bigs but that's not saying much.
Oh I know its a massive problem. We have Burgett and Auguste and that's it. And neither one has really shown any sort of consistency. I think we're pretty screwed going into next year with big men. If we get a transfer who can make an instant impact, I think were a top 25 team. If we don't, I think were middle of the road ACC and about a 8-12 seed.
I'm having a hard time imagining us making the tournament next year even with a big man transfer. Atkins carried us throughout the year with his point guard play. I'm having a hard time seeing DJ picking up where Atkins left off and being able to run the team. I just don't see it happening. I think we could have a worse season next year.
We are also after PF Jackson Davis to end the class of 2014. That kid is a stud.
I guess I'm of the opinion that:
Grant>Atkins
no Sherman/Knight=whatever, we can't get any worse there
DJ/Vasturia/Beachem/Burgett/Auguste in 2014-2015>those five in 2013-2014
