Honestly the biggest reason a DC may not jump at ND to me is most coaches are ego maniacs.

You’re A) under a defensive head coach B) can’t hire any staff C) have nothing to fix

There’s a humbling aspect almost to mainly just being a play caller.

Basically, ND needs to go out and figure out what defensive HC or tenured DC is absolutely miserable in his current post, and/or is about to be fired anyway.

They need to luck into an elite hire like OSU did with Chip Kelly, basically… just the opposite side of the ball.

Chip didn’t have to do shit but call up badass plays for a bunch of studs.

I guess it’s not quite as exciting dialing up plays for a bunch of BAMF’s on the defensive side.

Will never happen, but that is straight up Luke Fickell or Dave Aranda.

Its also possible that just like most of the past year, the ND beat, and certainly none of us having a fucking clue what is really going on and what back channeling and conversations are going on. One thing I have realized is that as he evolves, nothing MF wants kept under wraps gets out.

12 regular season games = 12 coordinators

Hire 12 young bright minds from FCS and D2.

200K each

Give them each a game to prep for that they call.

If MF and the defensive coaching staff were pleased you get a rose after the game.

Anyone who gets a rose gets the possibility of being retained permanently next year.

New episodes each Wednesday on NBC and Peacock.

Ok so hear me out. For those of us who actually think our wives are pretty awesome. I think you might be on to something. Having the wife engaged with this:
A. Guarantees the calender is open for all games
B. Wife wants smoked meat for all games(this really happened) there has never been a season like this past one. I ate well boys 😃😃
C. Wife gets emotionally attached to players and coaches because of the back stories
D. Wife thanks me for Getting her to watch' Here come the Irish'.
E. We no longer have a cat. Sorry fluffy that pass to J. Smith did her in.🤣🤣
Disclaimer is if you don't have an awesome wife then none of this matters and all I can say is sorry for your luck. Go Irish. Bring on the 🌹

Not necessarily the right thread, but Mickens has a jam-packed scheduled today as opposed to the other days so optimistic me is thinking something's been figured out. All over Florida and Tennessee with multiple staff members.

Or it could be that regardless of what's going on, he's still a coach at ND and is going to do his job until things change?

Let me have my copium. His schedule was much lighter the last two days. It is probably nothing, but could be something.

I mean, BK was famously on the road until he wasn't.

But is there any smoke connecting Mickens to any other actual jobs? Haven't seen it.

From the Brice report:
Per several sources, Freeman is seeking to keep Mickens as a co-defensive coordinator for the Irish, but Mickens also is exploring several options -- including in the NFL, as well as other notable, high-profile college programs.

No programs/teams explicitly stated.

Right. Aside from Ohio State (which is not hiring him as DC) what "notable, high-profile" college programs would have a job open right now that'd be better than the one he's got. Oklahoma DC?
As for the NFL, those hires tend to be pretty well-telegraphed, for whatever reason, and unlike Freeman and now Rudolph his name hasn't come up (yet) for anything specific.
This could of course change by lunchtime, but until we hear otherwise I'm going to have faith that Freeman will figure something out that makes sense for Mickens to stay here.

I love my wife, but I want both my marriage and football to be a positive experience and I feel like commingling the two would have catastrophic results.

When I think of the perfect coach for ND, Aranda comes to mind (coordinator). He’s an extremely cerebral, thorough and mild mannered coach that I think could really click with Notre Dame’s administration, boosters, alums, players, and players’ parents. It’s incredible he was on the same staff as Orgeron.
