IF ND loses FREEMAN you can kiss an chance of success goodbye for a long time. The longer Swarbick lets this drag out the worse it will be

I knew the mega conference would change college football and not for the better, but damn. What just happened in the last 24 hours shows that other than a few programs everyone else is relegated to MAC/Mtn West levels. Think about it. Brian Kelly built an 11-1 squad with two top 5 future recruiting classes in the works and he still left because he believes he has a better chance of winning a championship in the south. The same can probably be said of the move by Riley. I think this is a scary day for not only ND, but college football in general.

Not dismissing you at all, but how the hell would Mick Assaf know anything?

I really have no idea -- but the dude was on a stream yesterday with 50+ commits, current players, and former players and was stone cold adamant that Freeman will be the next coach. And he continues to be even after that tweet that Kelly is trying to poach him.

Yeah, that tells us nothing.

No. He left for a boatload of cash and incentives.

If Kelly is trying to bring Freeman with him it makes the presser a bit more clear. We all went into that assuming we would hear Freeman is the guy NOW... Swarbrick probably knows that may not happen even if he wants it to and couldn't go out there and say something is when he knows that 50/50 it may not.

“I was not a big fan of Mick freshman year at the beginning,” said offensive tackle Liam Eichenberg. “It’s a thing with him, you hate him for the first couple months and then you like him. He just won’t shut up. He’s always there, always running his mouth.”

Someone should come up with some catchy or unifying slogan like, “Those who stay will be champions” or something to that effect…

If ND loses a head coach prospect to being a *coordinator* i will lose my mind.

So Venables can start recruiting Sneed now?

This just got me thinking, hope the new DC at Clemson doesn't come in and say, hey you would have been my priority number 1 from the start. Although that recruitment probably only comes down to one factor: Freeman.

Then why didn't he go to the Eagles if that was his only concern? Oklahoma just got a coach poached by another college program (first time since 1947) and so did ND! Two top 10 schools with one thing in common. Can't get over the threshold in the modern college football championship landscape.

He was pretty annoying last night lol, super rude to Jessica Smetana and just generally talked over everyone and anyone

If Freeman is not named ND HC - why wouldn't he take the bags of cash at LSU or his pick of probably half a dozen decent programs at HC?

Stealing Rhule out of the NFL mid season would be a baller move. But we can't wait for a end of season for Fickel or Rhule types - they need to move now. I don't like the optics of BK leaving us heading in to playoffs while we wait for other people's seasons to finish up. We would be picked clean in the current staff, lose the recruiting class and probably a pile of current players transfer as well.

Freeman is the logical choice on multiple levels outside of a big name beating down our door. Hopefully the delay is to give the impression of high outside interest to a) show Freeman is by choice, not necessity, b) negotiate from position of strength with Freeman. Heavy on incentives, not too long in duration and a sizeable buyout if he leaves and not too expensive to shove him off early.

Are there no buyouts anymore? Seems LSU should be shipping us some coin for taking BK with years on his contract?

The Shamrock Podcast goes in DRY on the admin. Here are the highlights:

1. Kelly didn't leave for money (which looks more and more true as the contract details come out).

2. Kelly left because the admin doesn't care about further elevating the football program.

3. The Gug is trash and might literally be the worst sports complex in power 5. They name like 20 schools with MUCH better facilities and they aren't juggernauts. They name Northwestern, Kentucky, and Wake Forest for a few.

4. Coaches STILL do not get private travel arrangements to recruit. This is a sin, a joke, frankly a slap in the face.

Good luck luring/keeping a legit coach when everyone else is in the arms race and ND is too out of touch or too stupid to get in the game.
