I'm at a loss for words. Down 4 runs in the bottom of the ninth, nobody out and Brannigan gets picked off first.

I have been there. Lefties are just hard to read. I played college baseball and even leaning back to first I have gotten axed.

They really picked the worst time of the season to not hit, throw strikes, or play defense.
Reminded me of the collapse at Miss St last season. Defense & Pitching got them through the season & it failed them today. Hitting had been a bonus so I wasn’t expecting a lot of fireworks from the bats. Was planning on a pitcher’s duel. TAMU has been labeled as the worst defense in the CWS but they looked decent today.

This kind of sounds like a man who is reflecting before a tough break up.

Re: question about the FSU rumors:

"To have that group of guys, my focus was on them and not the other stuff. And you know what, I had to deal with it last year. When your program's doing the right thing, you're going to have those distractions whether it's baseball, basketball, football. And I tried with all I had not to go there in my mind. And it was difficult. But I wanted to know, when this thing either ended with a trophy or not, that they were the focus of what I was doing. And they're just phenomenal. Like, they're phenomenal human beings."

Awesome season and a great ride. The world seemed to unite behind them defeating Tennessee. Not the ending any of us would have hoped for.

Trying to get Jarrett to stay long term now will be key. In doing so, you get to keep him and perhaps prove that ND Baseball isn't a stepping stone job anymore.

Wonder if ND tries to bring back Manieri. He sure made himself visible the last few weeks.

Having just retired a year ago, they can try, but you'd have to wonder why he'd come back at this point.

My hope is they go younger and newer. Justin Haire from Campbell stands out. Godwin would be great, but he's an ECU alum and I doubt he leaves there.

Well, he seemed to begrudgingly retire only because he had so much neck pain that he could barely function and it wasn't fair to the LSU program. He seemed to be saying that his neck pain isn't an issue anymore. All depends on how much he is enjoying retirement and how much he misses baseball.

I only recall him saying he wanted to travel to places he hasn't had time for in the past and also wanted to visit with former players.

64 years old with a history of neck pain and zero left to prove. I hope he enjoys life and ND looks for a middle aged guy that's hungry and is aiming to be the next Mainieri.

64 isn't anything. you'll realize that once you get there.

Same playbook as when we hired Link, winning coach at a mid major who is an institutional fit. Double his salary

They should elevate Rich Wallace. Guy has won everywhere he’s been, and has the recruiting chops to keep this machine humming along

I got the same impression from a ISD article earlier in the week.

This guy could teach Brian Kelly a thing or two... absolute class act.

The contrast in their exits really is quite stark. Link never sounded like he was BS'ing his guys and trying to get out the back door in record speed.

Best of luck to Link and after watching that video I understand why he took the FSU job.

Link made the baseball program relevant and I hope ND hires the right coach to still keep the program relevant.

It has been fun reading and posting in this thread.....

Any chance this any effect on Drayk Bowen? I know baseball was supposedly a big part of his decision. Kinda looks like some the current players aren't feeling good vibes in the near future of ND baseball.
