Agree. When they find two that are making more than market value, one will get a hand slap and the other will a suspension.

Are they going to pay a 5* and a 2* the same amount?

Colleges have 85 scholarship kids- does that change? Are you paying a starter vs. a non starter?

What about Power 5 schools vs non Power 5?

I don't like this idea at all...the world is becoming to damn easy for kids.

If they want to make it to the NFL it is on YOU.

If the NCAA ends up paying athletes then they should have to pay for their education.

Might want to read the actual proposal before you get upset, because these questions and gripes are mostly about the universities paying the kids which isn't what's happening at all.

Until fully fledged semi-pro becomes the norm in CFB, I don't think EA would have the ability to loot box NCAA in the same way as they have Madden. So that's the good news.

The bad news is that the amount of money they make on loot boxes and ultimate team is staggering, and the fact that they can't really monetize this game in the same way might be part of the reason EA seems so disinterested in pushing for the game to come back at this time.

I guess you don't want Joe Montana, Jerome Bettis, or Manti Te'o on your legends roster.

The rule change would allow for a one time transfer exception. Key words there being one time. Plus, coaches still cannot contact players unless they put their name in the portal, at which point schools can pull their scholarship so its not something kids will do just for fun.

Almost none of this is relevant to the legislation. The whole point of allowing athletes to benefit from NIL is that it is not the schools paying the players, just allowing them to make money from outside sources. So the NCAA wouldn't have to even worry about any of that.

The seeds for this were planted in 1984 when Oklahoma and Georgia used the NCAA, in effect, so it could earn more money. Before then, the NCAA distributed media earnings basically equally, which the bigger schools argued, and won, that this was giving smaller schools more than what they would earn in a free market.

ND actually became the first to benefit when in broke with the CFA to sign with NBC. But since that point, conferences were expanded, those who could compete for a title were regulated to major conference affiliates, and media rights have shot up astronomically.

It's been about money my whole life and for many others. I have no problem with Ian Book earning some coin for putting up a product on Instagram. Literally any college student could do that, so why cant he?

The irony out of all of this is that Byron White saw this all coming in the dissent he gave. This is must read material if you ever wondered why a school like Clenson can seemingly become one of the biggest spenders in College Football seemingly overnight.

That was a great model when the sport was just about the sport. Now it's about TV networks and universities making billions off of the student athletes hard work and dedication. The sport hasn't been about just the sport for a very long time.

And not all of these kids get to monetize their image later. Only 2% of CFB players make it to the pros. And even at the top of the top what if someone like Tua was never able to play again after his hip injury? How many millions did he make Alabama? What does he get? Tough luck kid? Making it about the degree is like paying an employee that's directly making you millions of dollars minimum wage.

Even beyond that because I don't believe the schools should be paying the kids directly there's zero reason they shouldn't be able to make money on their own. The NCAA shutting down kids YouTube pages is beyond fucked up.

Agree. Too many people think this means schools will be cutting checks.

Also, seems like this is the best case scenario for the NCAA and the Universities. You are letting the players make money without having to give up any revenue yourself. They're essentially letting their employees make tips.

Doesn't matter if you like it or not. NIL compensation is here to stay. And that line about playing for a Florida school is why all states and the NCAA will get on board with a quickness.

Some state is going to mandate revenue athlete compensation or otherwise go someplace that NCAA rules aren’t willing to go (the CA law might already be there) and the whole thing is going to come apart.
