what do you suggest in it's place. NFL and mlb have worse tanking with guaranteed pick placement. At least in the NBA you aren't guaranteed.

AWWW...that tanking concern is overrated IMO. Just let the worst record pick first and so on.... Knicks were clearly the worst team last year and got hosed because of some dumb lottery.

awww....

The real problem in the NBA, and in nfl, is that the refereeing/officiating hasn't evolved along with the game.

It makes it really hard to watch on a consistent basis. And makes playoffs especially frustrating.

Lebron squaring up on Giannis was one of the more lit moments in recent regular season memory.

The Bulls have moved on from GarPax. Here's hoping the new guy from Denver gets their franchise turned around

Williamson and parents received perks from duke and Adidas?

https://bleacherreport.com/articles...om&utm_campaign=editorial&utm_medium=referral

The former marketing agent of New Orleans Pelicans star rookie Zion Williamson, Gina Ford, has filed documents in court claiming Williamson received impermissible benefits from several sources, including Nike and Adidas.

Gaming law attorney Daniel Wallach shared her requests for admission:

Daniel Wallach
@WALLACHLEGAL
NEW: Zion Williamson’s former marketing agent has served requests for admission in their lawsuit asking him to admit that he received “money, benefits, favors or other things of value” to attend Duke University and to wear and/or use Nike and Adidas.

Wow. That escalated quickly.

Williamson, 19, is suing Ford's Prime Sports Marketing after he tried to sever his five-year contract with the agency last year. Per Garrett Stepien of 247Sports, the agency had threatened to sue Williamson for $100 million in damages if he broke off the arrangement.

Williamson did just that, signing with CAA Sports in May 2019.

Williamson's suit against Prime Sports Marketing claims his agreement with the agency—which "essentially amounts to a non-terminable, exclusive agency to represent Williamson in all of his marketing and endorsement endeavors," per Wallach—violated the Uniform Athlete Agents Act because "neither Ford nor anyone associated with Prime Sports is registered as an athlete-agent in North Carolina; and the agreement does not include the specific language required by the UAAA."

Prime Sports Marketing countered with a lawsuit of its own in Florida and a countersuit in North Carolina. The question regarding the agency's requests for admission is whether it is anything more than a legal maneuver to persuade Williamson to settle.

These discovery requests seem more like a veiled threat (“settle or else!”) than legit request to obtain relevant info to bolster claims. Timing also questionable since FL case is currently on hold against Zion Williamson while he appeals denial of personal jurisdiction motion.

Of course, she could just as easily have filed this in the North Carolina federal court action - and that’s definitely coming up soon - where it might have received a bit more attention than burying it in a Miami-Dade Circuit Court docket, where it sat unnoticed for four days.

Among those requests is that Williamson admit he knew his mother, Sharonda Sampson, and stepfather, Lee Anderson, "demanded and received gifts, money and/or other benefits" from Duke and Nike to sign with the Blue Devils and with Adidas to endorse and wear its shoes.

Prime Sports also requested that Williamson admit he received "gifts, money and/or other benefits from persons other [than] NCAA certified agents" between 2014 and 2019 and impermissible benefits from an NCAA-certified agent during that time.

The more they try to cover this stuff up, the more it seems to happen. Makes you wonder if our guys aren't receiving a little bit under the table.

Anyone who thought Duke was pulling five Top 10 recruits every year without paying them is a complete moron. Think Coach K doesn't know about it - you are an idiot. (I'm sorry, paying people close to them - thanks Cam Newton).

Outside of the top 20-30 or so I don't think you have NBA money coming their way and more low level dollars that are dwarfed by education value at a place like ND. Sending the one and dones direct to the NBA or some semipro circuit would make me very happy.

I really hope they are. IMO They almost have to be.....

The question becomes... Why Is It hard still... Why are we not getting the upper hand?

its all thru the shoe companies

my impression is only the kids who they truly see being short paths to the NBA and therefore marketable for shoe deals are receiving the money. NIKE/Adidas etc dont necessarily care what school as long as it is one of their schools.

Notre Dame isnt bringing in too many guaranteed NBA'ers so I would say unlikely this is much of a concern

This is blowing up in their face, I think it's getting worse the more they try to squelch it.
So it's fine to say whatever you want about our own government and make threats, but talk about the oppressive situation with China and Hong Kong and....nope, not allowed.

What threats has anyone in the NBA made?

It's funny how people like you feel they're obligated to speak on this just because you disagree with their stance on issues in their own country.

It's funny...that's how free speech works...a freedom that people in Hong Kong are not allowed to exercise and a freedom that the NBA is currently trying to revoke because they're in bed with China.

Enjoy another neg.

You should just admit you only have a problem with the NBA's handling of this because of the political views of people in that league. There's no need to show fake concern about the people in Hong Kong because of that. Before Morey's tweet I'm sure you and many others criticizing the NBA didn't care about the issues in China/Hong Kong.

Enjoy your neg.

I still haven't forgotten about Hong Kong, haven't watched a single game this season. Instead I educated my daughter this week on who Michael Jordan is/was. She thought he was the one that died in a helicopter crash.

Still haven't forgotten about the plight of Hong Kong. China tightened the noose last week, further restricting Hong Kong's freedoms. It goes against everything that was agreed upon when the UK relinquished control of the territory. Trump had a lot of negative things to say about China, further damaging the relationship with China(Which I'm okay with). We need to reduce our dependence on their goods, and we need to keep them out of our manufacturing sector. I didn't quite get why we were eliminating the special treatment and deals we've been giving Hong Kong up to now, as nothing would fly in the face of China's regime like continuing to offer special privileges to that territory. However if China truly has tightened their grasp, they're saying Hong Kong no longer remains autonomous enough to be able to justify those extra provisions. It's a shame, would be nice if something else could be done to support them without the aid ending up in China's hands.

NBA is going to resume the 2019-20 season on July 31. At this point does anyone really care who the league champ or MVP is?

Saw a highlight of the Pacers Lakers game. Holiday pulled a nice trick on LeBron.

Was looking forward to the playoff debut of Doncic and Porzingis. Evidently, they were not.

These bubble games without a crowd look like the pickup games at L.A. Fitness sometimes.

I stayed up for the Lakers-Blazers game. Did not disappoint.

Playoffs have been fun so far, with the exception of the Mavs game that was ruined by the refs. If the Lakers can't find anyone who will hit an open shot I don't know how they'll get to the Finals. Danny Green going 2-8 from 3 with basically all of them being wide open was annoying as a basketball fan. Most of those attempts had the defensive pressure of warmup shots. Lebron and AD are getting swarmed at the rim because no one respects anyone else's ability to make an open bucket.

Lebron with the super casual 23 points, 15 assists, 17 rebounds while looking rusty. The man does not age. Dame exploding late in the 4th was fun to watch.
