JIMMY BUTLER!
^dont get into this with me....
the heat shouldve taken Shelvin, he's a tough player and a very talented scorer who could be a great role player for a team like the heat, idk how he will do on the wizards but i'd love to see him tare it up with John Wall
Should not have been taken this high and isn't a need. Hell, I'd take Ben Hansbrough over him but I'm biased.
Good thing you're not a GM then because that would be a terrible decision.
Yeah OK non-biased fan with so much knowledge of the Wizards. Serious question, did you even watch a single Washington game this year? Without cheating, and be honest, can you name me anyone on their team besides John Wall?
Mack is a bad fit because it is our LEAST area of need on the entire team. Now, if you take a guy who can play really well off-ball and shoot the 3 it makes sense because you could put him on the floor with Wall as well as spot duty playing the point while he rests.
Hansbrough shot 48% from the field and 44% from 3. Mack shot 41% from the field and 35% from 3... against worse competition. I would take Hansbrough (or any other PG who can also shoot) because he could work into a rotation. Mack is not a good shooter.
Mack will never work into a rotation. He was taken because he is a tough PG with good size who will be able to come off the bench and give Wall breathers without being a liability on defense. He will never be a starter on this team and that's why I don't like the pick.
Clearly, the GM thought that no one left on the board had a chance of being a starter or even rotation player in an area of need... and they also were clearly drafting for athleticism and defense... so Mack fits that billet to a T. 6'3" with his strength and motor at PG is going to be a great asset. So I don't hate the pick... I just think it was misguided and wish they had drafted at an area of need.
LOL. Name someone on their team without cheating? Nick Young played for them but he's a free agent. Blatche, McGee, Jordan Crawford, I remember them trading for Rashard Lewis with Orlando and trading with I think the Nets to get Yi Jianlian. They don't have Caron Butler anymore because they traded him to the Mavericks for I'm pretty sure Howard. So what, 6 or 7 non-John Wall players? Yep, good point.
Ben Hansbrough is not athletic enough to be an NBA shooting guard. On defense he would get absolutely annihilated. He's slow in transition and is a shooter only. He's one-dimensional and built for Europe with a slower pace and more emphasis on fundamentals.
Shelvin Mack is not a bad shooter. 8-11 in the national semifinal. 7 threes against Pittsburgh with 30 points. He's streaky but he can definitely shoot. How many times did you watch Butler play? He did much much much better when he wasn't the number one option. 39% from 3 his sophomore year when Gordon Hayward and Willie Veasley were playing. Mack can shoot. It's not a problem for him. Mack is going to be a combo guard. He can shoot well enough when the defense is focused on Wall and whatever other wings would be out there for Washington. He's the same size as Hansbrough so there is no advantage for him there.
He can also play defense. He has improved big time since his freshman year on defense and is only going to get better. Last summer he worked out with the US national team and he lost weight, got stronger, got quicker, and improved on defense. He can drive to the hoop and has the body type to where he can make contested layups, something Hansbrough wouldn't be able to do in the NBA. Hansbrough is not an NBA player. He'll have a nice career in Turkey or Italy, but Mack is an NBA player who will be a solid #2 point guard who can play some shooting guard as well.
Love the move larry legend made, have george hill run the point and bring collison off the bench. Bird said he wanted the best bench in the league, he is shaping it that way nicely

I am probably in the a very small minority on here, but I for one am really disappointed in this lockout. The greed of a few ruin the enjoyment of a sport for the masses.
I as a fan am pissed that I may lose the last decent year in Kobe's, Garnett's, Pierce's, and Duncan's and Kidd's legs. I'm pissed I am missing the prime years of some extraordinary talents: Lebron, Durant, Wade, Anthony, Paul, Howard, Carmelo, Amare, Nowitzki and others. As much as I love my football and hockey, I will really miss the NBA.
Real ironic that I just posted in this thread, considering I actually just saw and had a couple words with one of the players I mentioned.
I left work early today after getting my stuff done and noticed on twitter that Melo was signing autographs a couple blind from where I work. Get there right in between the first rush and everyone else and get to meet him and get a signed pic. Pretty nice start to the weekend if I say so myself.
Ps Everyone was asking about the lockout so I refrained. Just told him I am looking forward to a full year of him and Amare whenever that happens.
that is awsome ironman. I bet you were giddy like a d*mn school girl.
