I don't like to make record predictions, but I am 1-1 on predictions (Golden Tate winning the Biletnikoff was correct, Rudolph winning the Mackey was incorrect). So here's my prediction for the coming season: Deion Walker will break out, get 700+ yards receiving and get his fifth year.

Ballsy my friend, real ballsy.

At least you're willing to throw it out there. I'm hoping you're right...but Deion is a real gamble.

It's more like I'm hoping for than predicting, but let's see what happens.

Damn all you "fans" are killing me, so quick to point out the teams faults and way to be realistic. But football is the place where dreams and miraculous things can happen.

What a life I would have if I thought my passion, ND football, would only win 8 or 9 games. Maybe I should hook up with Ole depressing boy from that other thread?

One point that needs to be mentioned is every other team out there has just as many "faults" as the Irish. But they play much harder schedules.

I cannot remember a season where I didnt think the Irish couldnt win the championship. "when ND comes back" or "we will be back when", stetements are for other schools, not my team.

1- 10 wins in a 13 game schedule isn't that big of a deal. I mean you really, really, really, really have to see the negative in every little thing about Irish football to think that 10 wins is some impossible goal for this program.

2-Winning 10 games doesn't mean Notre Dame will be "back" or close to being a national power again. But it will be a good sign and a mark of progress for the program.

1- ^^Let's look at this... winning ten games isn't a big deal... yet we've done it how often??? That alone says volumes about this program if ten wins is no biggie... yet my expectatiosn are off???

I'm not making us out to be some third rate program... and I said we COULD win a title next year... but I also said odds are we will not win ten games any of the next three seasons... and to be clear I never said anything CLOSE to winning ten games is impossible... just odds aren't with it, which they aren't... not hard

2- also, our last ten win season sure set up a nice turn in the right direction didn't it??? ;)

And we are also assuming that to get to the BCS championship game you have to be undefeated, there is not a team that is head and shoulders above the rest, maybe both teams will have losses this year.

SEC- maybe wont have a team in game, doubt it, but it is a mostly even conf.
BIG EAST- I dont even have to say anything, this conf champ wont even be in NC talking.
PAC12- another even conf, champion could have 2 losses.
BIG12- first legit team in OU, after that poop is what I smell.
ACC- Flor ST/VA TECH arent there yet, another even conf with a champion having multiple losse.
BIG TEN- almost every team in transistion, or under investigation, ND would go undefeated if they played here.

My point is ND has just as good, if not better chance than any other school.

We do not have anywhere near the chance of OU, UT, Bama, tOSU, Florida and the like... but after you get past the first five-ten usual suspects... yeah, we have just as good a shot if not better than just about anyone.

i think we can contend too, but since this is the post-Holtz ND we will A) lose a playmaker for the season B) lose some kind of heartbreaker and C) lose to a team we should beat. but hey since this is ND, we'll win it all the year after that

Two ten win seasons over the past nine years...during the worst stretch in program history. Things could be so much worse.

I mean if we were Clemson or A&M with nothing like that on our resume in 10 or 15 years, yeah I'd be pretty pessimistic. But we have three BCS appearances in our "dreaded" past, a team full of talent (more than enough to win ten games), and Brian Kelly as a head coach. So 2007-09 wasn't great to us, but I like the direction the program is headed.

And if we've been to 3 BCS games, odds are we're due for another one. We had three or four really good seasons in the recent past, with teams that weren't really great, with coaches that certainly weren't great, and now we're supposed to believe Brian Kelly can't do it once (10 wins) over a four year period?

Hate to be a party pooper, but we would, or could easily lose to OSU, Wisconsin, Nebraska, MSU, scUM, Penn State and Iowa.

*Illinois and Northwestern would be no gimme either. Best case scenario if we played every team mentioned above in my humble opinion: 5-4, possibly 6-3 if the chips all fell perfectly.

Now the new title.

The 2001 Fiasco Bowl was the exact moment in time I put down the cup of green kool-aid for good, and vowed to never let past accomplishment cloud my judgement of present or future events again.

That was the last time I would ever say something foolish like: "Oregon State? Are you kidding me? WE GOT THIS."

Until I see ND dominate Michigan the way Miss St. did and Mich St. the way Alabama did.. I will not predict even a chance at the NC. Now, I already see the difference in the players mentally and physically and wouldn't be too shocked if they were in the NC conversation maybe 6/7 games into the season. But for me to be optimistic about a NC I need to see some dominance. The depth is not exactly where we need it but it is at it's best in years.. especially at the most important positions.. OL/DL. If BK puts together another top 10 class and Luongo keeps the development going I see a deep and very dangerous ND football team in 2013.. Of course we will have arguably the toughest schedule in the country then too..

I said earlier today that the 2007 season killed my homerism, but now I'm drinking Konig Ludwig Weissbier, and it's kinda like Kool-aid.

Little did we know they had 3 future Pro Bowlers at QB and WR.... holy hell was that game awful.

LSU is going to win the SEC and the National Championship.

Pound for pound they are the best team IMO.

But if they win a national title with their schedule, I'll be more than impressed.

vs. Oregon (Cowboys Stadium)
@ Miss State
@ West Virginia
vs. Florida
@ Tennessee
vs. Auburn
@ Alabama
vs. Arkansas

Man, if they finish the season 14-0 and win both the SEC championship and BCS title game that would be amazing. Even a 13-1 season with a loss early would be awesome.

They'll win the Oregon game easily, IMO.
