I'd leverage Duke for more money. Or knowing what Michigan State was paying Mel Tucker, have a few conversations with them.

If Elko is chasing a championship, it's Gainesville. If he's chasing money, it's College Station. Career preservation it's Duke or Michigan State. Less pressure, plenty of good money and more appreciation is my guess.

I know in the end winning is all that really matters to these people, but Elko is a Jersey guy with an Ivy League degree with a rather unique resume that doesn't scream fit at Florida or even TAMU for that matter. DC at TAMU is one thing, but now he's going to be "the guy" replacing the guy who once employed him there.

I don't know, my mind looks at this as someone outside of the industry. At the end of the day these are all just jobs to these guys.
Elko negotiating a paltry 5 mil buyout in his Duke contract says all you need to know about his ambition to stay there long term. There are G5 coaches with higher buyouts than that. he will be gone this offseason

He just extended his contract this past summer through 2029.

I'm sure it's more than $5M with that being said, but Duke is a private schools and terms do not need to be reported. I think he's making more now than people think. Maybe not TAMU crazy money but I'll bet he's making very good Duke Football money.

I think he's going to leave at some point, but not for TAMU or UF.

True, he's gone eventually. But he should wait for the right opportunity

Flip side, if UF or AtM isn't it, who is? UGA, Bama Texas, OSU, Michigan, ND, anyone else? That's a really small list to draw from.

Elko is an Ivy League educated guy from Jersey who is middle aged. He's been DC at ND and HC at Duke. He's smart and he can be selective even with the element of timing factored in.

He has to be self aware enough to realize what he's going to get at UF or TAMU besides a ton of money, an unlimited net of recruits and country club memberships.

Yep, gotta settle for 4star
Ryan Puglisi EE practicing with the team now like CJ. But a definite gut punch to UGA!!

Lol I was pissed we didnt go all in on Puglisi when Carr seemed like a pipe dream. He was 3 star early in the cycle but not surprised hes a top 150 guy with his arm talent.

Clemson picks up commitments from the 1605th and 1786th ranked players today. Earlier this month, they picked up the 1551st ranked player. None of the 3 had P5 scholarships.

Is this Dabo's answer to not using the transfer portal? Because that ain't gonna sit well with fans.

If you aren’t going to use the portal and you want to build - and keep - depth, then this probably is your only option. You can’t expect to sign a five star that will sit for two seasons for their turn.

Take kids who are not athletically elite, but willing to stick around and learn the system and maybe play a bigger role by the end of their careers. And if they do bounce, they’re completely replaceable players.

There’s nobody around that can convince me they can tell the difference between the 1,500 and 1,700 ranked players. Lol

Raiola's announcement was beyond cringe. Dude clearly has helicopter parents and a guidance/ego problem. If the $$ is right maybe it works out at Nebraska but I honestly think they made a mistake passing on McCord for this kid unless his arm talent really turns out to be that good. He has Dante Moore + locker room cancer red flags everywhere.

Yeah the announcement was one of those “maybe I’m old now” deals.

Hope it works out for Huskers Bros. They’ve been through it for decades now. Sure would be funny if the other local QB who built the entire class for Raiola ended up being the guy, though.

Speaking of the other guy to Raiola, I’m really hoping Puglisi works out for Georgia. He was locked in the whole time and didn’t flinch when Raiola joined his class. You’d like to see that rewarded in both cases.

Well, the last two college football seasons are proof that the combination of NIL and the transfer portal have created more parity in the sport. While it takes some getting used too and there are elements of it I really dislike. It’s been a great thing for the competition of the sport.

Maybe it’s not reflected in the top 25 recruits but it’s most certainly reflected on the field.
