Fess up, NDFan4Life, just how old ARE you? ELP could be heard from dorm rooms across campus and off campus living rooms across town when I was at ND in the earliest of the '70's.

Or are you something like BeauBabyBenken , a prodigy of some sort who had an ear for good music from an early age?

Sorry, Nanker, but Disco still don't hack it for me, except for parody and a few shaking-my-head-laughs.

Hmmm... I was going to answer dshans, but noticed he got the boot.

Anyway... to answer his question, my older brother turned me on to ELP, Frank Zappa, Allman Bros., Little Feat, and a few other bands in the early 70s. He's a couple of years older than me and he gave me "Allman Bros. @ Fillmore East" for Christmas when I was 12. He was hoping I wouldn't like it and give it back to him. "Whipping Post" blew me away and I kept the album just for spite. :)

Favorite song : (Changes frequently) My duo's cover of John Hiatt's "Train To Birmingham" or Stoney Larue's version

Least favorite: Pretty much anything on mainstream pop and hip-hop radio would fit here...

most played band/artist: (Changes frequently) Chris Knight

Song that pumps you up: Radney Foster "A Little Revival"...very uplifting...it's a great drive to work song IMO...

A year ago it would have been all rock and blues stuff...I am in an alternative country phase and I don't know if it will ever end.

It was Written was whatever. Illmatic to this day is arguably the best hip hop album I have ever heard. Right up there with the Chronic. Classic

Thanks for this. I've never been much of a Macca fan, but this song brought back some good memories--think I was a junior in high-school when it came out. Very Dylanesque, I think.

Stones fans can't be Beatles fans, didn't you know? But now, thank God, it is almost time to turn from the many meandering paths we have explored since January and focus on our beloved Irish handing out the first of many sound ***-whuppings this coming Saturday.

GO IRISH!

Illmatic is no doubt Nas' best work but I don't think there's a ton of drop off when it comes to "It was Written" I Gave You Power is one of my fav songs ever.

I don't think there is much question Illmatic was Nas's best work. Happens to a lot of artists (their first album is the culmination of their life's work up to that point, and the subsequent albums are put together in conformance with their record deal). It might be the best hip-hop album of all time.

Stillmatic and the Black Album were the last two great hip-hop albums. In fact, in my mind, they were the last two listenable hip-hop albums. Everything after that is garbage. I haven't heard a hip-hop song I liked in almost eight years.
