I definitely don’t have all the answers but I think there are 3 tweaks to the run game that could help.

1. Adding the jet motion action that used to be a staple in our run game. It gives the defense something to hesitate on rather than flying downhill plugging the gaps. Where did it go? I would love to see Faison or Graham get a jet sweep every so often to keep the defense honest.
2. Run more pistol. I think the data is there for this one from what I’ve seen.
3. Go under center. Are they saving this for later? Why practice it and admit Carr needs it for the next level and not run it? Watching Love and Price run from under center in the NFL is a thing of beauty. Hate we never got that while they were here.

That environment was nowhere near "insane". It was pretty tame for a night game.

I would agree. I think it was the nature of the game, especially after only getting a FG after the first play of the game. I also wasn’t in a very vibrant section overall. USC, TAMU, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State were all pretty raucous. This wasn’t close to those.

My only thought is something along the lines of: Denbrock I feel calls the game for how he wants the team to be, instead of calling the game for the team that we are. And he needs to figure out who we are way faster than week 3/4/5.

Gap runs with Williams have been abysmal, but what hasn’t really. For some reason they haven’t called as many (especially 1H) for James.

The OL hasn't always done it's job, but its been decent enough for RBs to get chunk plays. There HAS TO be a RB on the roster who has better vision than AW at this point.

When I track explosives in the run game, the lack thereof doesn't mean it wasn't there for the taking...

As I sit here like a Monday morning armchair qb, the offense/Carr seems to have a lot of tells. How the TE's motion, checks Carr makes the position the rb's, feet stance and hands when rb's are in pistol. If we're noticing, all the dc's on the schedule are plotting ways to capitalize on it.

To that point, it looked as though Rossi was having his D use false checks, knowing he'd get Carr to check into a run.

Someone made the point earlier, but Denbrock needs to remind Carr that he's the best player on the field. Just because the box numbers indicate a run check be made doesn't mean he still shouldn't pass.

I'd speculate much the same as many, but feels like Denbrock is really repping runs rather than let CJ throw it around the yard. You'd have to think he'll come out with a 11/10 personnel focused looks and give Greathouse/ Graham some more run.

Every time we motion TE or WR into the box right before we snap it it's a run. 100% of the time.

Then there's non-existent slot WR position.

Then there's wasting 2 spots with TE/12 personal to guys you'll never throw to.

I'm glad MF is exactly who he is but this is where having no offensive background hurts when Denbrock has lost his bag.

It makes sense though. I was wondering if we had a tell during the game. It was a problem with Carr last year and now Dante Moore this year. I was thinking about it during the game because it seemed like the LBs were getting downhill so quickly against the run.

Does the rumor say who has the tell? Because I wonder if its Aneyas. I think it was an ISD pod that was talking about how the blocking was better for James than Aneyas. I think they chalked it up to the line maybe having a better understanding of where James would be.

However, Aneyas being the one with a tell would explain why the running game seems to be uniquely bad when he is in the game and somewhat better for James, even though we thought and have seen Aneyas be better running the ball than he is currently doing.

Frustrating win. Offense is it's own worst enemy. Defense is the truth but we all knew Sparty's passing game was poo. Erase one hero 50 yard pass and its almost comical pass defense domination. Never really threatened IMO.

Our run game scares nobody. Looks like that has been rehashed here extensively by smarter people than me so I'll take this opportunity to rant on NBC.

What a worthless f-ing production from top to bottom. Is this our broadcast or not? FFS they glaze the other team endlessly and you can hear the hope in their voice for Sparty. They know the visiting team better and can't wait to share while they will say "number 5 made a play there" for ND. I don't know what that halftime show was but Simms and Perry should walk off if they are going to cede any airtime to that batch of theater kid looking clowns. Holy hell it should not be possible to be that noticeably bad coming off of an hour plus of Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge. Overall beta bitch cuck chair crew from top to bottom which makes me forget how terrible Doug Flutie and Mrs. Doubtfire were. Hey let's show MSU's coach beating ND as a player and a coach at NW! It's amazing that we've got a QB who can make those calls and checks at the line, but there were moments where I was just like BRO SNAP THE BALL GET IN A RHYTHM STOP FUSSING. Hell, a great throw over the middle / potential TD was called back because Carr was too slow to snapping the ball because of the claps and checks.

I think he's always had poor vision but he's always playing when the game's over and back ups are in.

There's a TD he scored I believe last year that I always remember where yes, he scored, but he read the WR block poorly. I wish I could remember the play (I'll look) but the WR has the DB completely sealed and Aneyas has a walk in. But he tries to go outside the WR/DB and nearly gets tackled.

Among having no physical traits to lean on, having poor vision is the killer.

Edit: 36 second mark. He needs to get better. The RB room isn't experienced enough for him to be fully benched so he needs to figure it out.

That's the other million dollar question rn to me too. Did he gain to much weight, or is he in his own head and pressing? Maybe he was exhausted after 20+touches in GB, but Saturday's performance and dumb td celebration likely sealed his fate, barring injury.

Like many, I was extremely high on him coming into the season based on his past production in big games.

Crazy to watch how much he's regressed.
Kid probably could've transferred for $1m.
