Is there an official "judgement day"? I thought they were supposed to go in front of the NCAA soon but I cant find it anywhere.

It was going to be August, but with all the new info coming out, that could be up in the air. Remember, it took FIVE years for them to take USC down. We're in the infancy stages of this saga...

But, with USC, it was a bunch of allegations and not much of a paper trail. From my understanding (and correct me if I'm wrong), the lawsuits between parties with Reggie Bush had a large deal to do with the length of the investigation, as well as the NCAA having to do a lot of leg work to get the story straight.

It seems that the NCAA will have a much easier time pushing things through against tOSU with all the facts out in the open and with a paper trail, since they seem to be to dumb/arrogent to cover it up.

Yeah, you could be right there. I'd imagine OSU and their lawyers are trying right now to cover their tracks (hopefully it's too late).

Right now, judging from the evidence and the rumors out there, here's how I'd rank the severity of the institutional problems:

1. North Carolina
2. OSU
3. USC (not a lot was proven outside of RB in regards to football, although they didn't investigate the McKnight thing, and I know there was more stuff that wasn't caught). Their arrogance really screwed them here.
4. Oregon - stay tuned; they could move up the list quickly.

In the USC case, because the allegations surfaced after Bush had left school, there was no way for the NCAA to compel him to testify... the NCAA has no subpoena power. After Bush refused to repay the would-be agents he stiffed by signing with another agency, they sued him, and it was the depositions in that case that the NCAA used.

Must be really vexing to USC fans to know that if Bush hadn't been so cheap, they would have gotten away with it.

Source: OSU has "no chance" at Dunn or Kalis
Wow. This coming from the family member of an OSU player. These guys aren't just decommitting, they have written off going to OSU. Remember, there are current and former OSU players who went to the same high school as Kalis and Dunn respectively. Word going around at both St. Eds and GlenOak are that the Buckeyes have "no chance" at landing either of them.

What a complete 180 for Kalis. I'm not surprised in the least about Dunn. When I interviewed him two months ago and he said he was "opening things back up" that told me he was basically decommitting. But Kalis was Mr. Buckeye talking about how much he loved OSU and that he was going to recruit like crazy to get other top prospects to join him in Columbus. He reminded me of Brewster and Justin Zwick in that respect.

"Wow" doesn't quite cover it unless it's the sort of wow that goes along with a fondness for hot dogs. Flipping Dunn and Kalis would see Michigan graduate from drinking MSU's milkshake to drinking OSU's. It's gotten so bad for the Buckeyes that the Spartans are drinking OSU's milkshake, nabbing Se'Von Pittman. If Aldophus Washington commits to Purdue next week put the entire state of Ohio on suicide watch.

What are Michigan's chances of flipping the decommit(-ish) duo? Well, Kalis's visit in particular seems to coincide with last weekend's OL visit madness—if he is going to jump ship he's got to do it quickly and it appears Michigan is pretty much his list outside of OSU, about whom see above. Dunn is wobblier since he hasn't actually committed yet and Penn State is a factor, but if the above is reliable Michigan would have to be the favorites.

Later Biddle says Brady Hoke is "negatively recruiting the hell out of OSU," which causes the requisite amount of swooning from the daintier folks in the thread. Specifically:

He's telling these guys that OSU will get hit harder than USC and they "shouldn't fall for the same (stuff) Lane Kiffen sold all those SC recruits."

Heavens to Betsy.

I bolded the parts I find most interesting. In a way it seems Michigan has a negative recruiting axis of evil between Hoke and Mattison (because everyone knows Mattison is as bad as they come).

It'll stop working in a hurry if they don't produce on the field. We've got to make sure we do our part by exposing them under the lights in prime time.

I don't know if I'd call it negative recruiting if you're being honest with the recruit.
Do you know who the coach of osu will be next year?
Do you know if you'll be able to go to a bowl?
Do you know if you'll be able to play for a B1G championship game?
Do you know if you'll be able to bring in quality players like yourself with scholarship reductions?

osu is negatively recruiting itself imo.

All very true. But Mattison is a notoriously strong negative recruiter (ask anyone) OSU scandal or not. Probably should not have lumped Hoke in there as an "axis of evil" though.

Yes you should. This is his opportunity and he will do what he needs to make the most of it. God help him if he is just an average MAC coach that got lucky, and he has taken the Peter Principle to the MAX!

I'm honestly surprised that you are surprised....we all KNOW that there is more going on in Columbus than what we've heard so far.

I don't think we've heard the last of OSU's problems yet. The NCAA is finally looking like they will clean house...Now if they could just go visit the SEC real serious like...The recent issues at Bama and obviously Auburn are certainly being investigated.

I want harsher penalties to set a clearer line for those who are more apt to cheat/break the rules.

Not again, still.

Also Wednesday, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith told The Associated Press in an email that the NCAA investigation has cost the school's athletic department about $800,000. The AP reported that Smith declined to discuss the investigation other than to confirm the cost, which he said was about $800,000 "at this point."

If your players didn't break the rules ...

If your coach didn't cheat BUT notified YOUR compliance people ...

If you and your President had shown integrity at the Press Conference ...

It's going to cost a lot more once the Sugar Bowl dinero is repaid.

Arkansas should receive the funds.

Ohio State denies Terrelle Pryor confessed NCAA violation - NCAA Football - Sporting News

SportingNews Staff Report
8/17/11

Ohio State is denying claims by Terrelle Pryor’s attorney that Pryor told the NCAA in May about additional violations he committed while in the Buckeyes’ program.

Pryor is trying to establish eligibility for the NFL Supplemental Draft, which means he has to show that he would not have been eligible to play at Ohio State if he’d remained in school.

By admitting that he received financial assistance from his mentor, Ted Sarniak, he would have violated the NCAA’s directive that he distance himself from Sarniak.

Ohio State, however, says that if Pryor continued to have dealings with Sarniak, neither OSU nor the NCAA was aware of it. However, ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen says ESPN has obtained documents confirming that in a May 20 meeting, Pryor supplied the NCAA with bank records.

“Terrelle was fully forthcoming and subsequently provided the documents that were requested to support the disclosure," his attorney, David Cornwell told ESPN. "The NCAA has a procedure where they can automatically audit bank accounts of student-athletes who are on financial aid.

“If those bank statements add up to a substantial amount more than what has been provided through financial aid, they ask why. Terrelle provided them with those answers and, as I said, the documents the NCAA requested."

Ohio State remains under NCAA investigation. Pryor announced he was leaving school on June 7, and has since been exiled from the program.

This couldn't have been a better week for OSU troubles to fly under the radar.

I think it's pretty funny that they self imposed a reduction of 5 scholarships over the span of three years. As if the NCAA is going to be impressed by that... haha

I know you posted it in that Urban thread Me2SouthBend but the sanctions are expected to be announced TODAY at 3 est.

Most thing there will be a show cause for Tressel and no bowl ban.

Pathetic.

the NCAA wants nothing more than for OSU to be back in the title game sooner rather than later and for Urban to be wildly succcessful. they will do nothing to hinder that scenario.
