Actually they really weren't. Brohm had a lot of success at WKU, but his last 2 recruiting classes were pretty awful, particularly in raw numbers. He had 2 huge first classes, and then 2 small ones to follow, which of course, Sanford inherited. Serious lack of depth and experience which culminated in a porous 2nd season.

WKU was far too hasty in terminating him. They should know better than that. They're lucky, because whoever comes in won't be set up for failure like Sanford was because he actually had 2 good recruiting classes.

That's a good point, I hadn't really looked at their recruiting over the course of Brohm's career. The same thing happened to Weis in 2007, we were devastated with a lack of talented upperclassmen that Willingham brought in (Or a total lack in numbers period) during his final two years. Depth was a real issue on that team.

always felt it was strange for Sanford, a guy with a young family to leave a good setup at ND and go to WKU. Way to risky a move, IMO

Funny to see how he has slipped...

Lots of us expected him to go there for 4-5 years and get experience to replace Kelly... He now has to start again and probably won't be a candidate for our job for another 10 years

I bet Tommy Rees is thanking him for being an impatient dope. Not a wunderkin

pretty much the norm for the guy who gets a G5 HC job and gets canned. You have to go back to OC at that level and work your way back up. No sure why he went from Minn to Colo however.

In hindsight, while we all know BVG was as bad a coordinator as you can have, Sanford should bear some of the blame for the 2016 debacle (and the shortcomings of the 2015 team)

He gets some of the blame, but it also goes back to the OC and WR coach before he took the job (Who was that, Martin and somebody else?). They left us with another pretty weak WR group that completely lacked experience. They were a fairly young group too if I recall. It was pretty much EQ I think in his first real year as a starter, and Torii Hunter was the only upperclassmen but was starting for the first time. EQ did well, Hunter did okay, but the rest of the WR and TE room struggled in a few games despite having Kizer throwing to them. It was a really weird year where we had what should have been a fairly strong OL we could have relied on with a run game, but we seemed to still be utilizing a heavy passing offense from the previous year despite having inexperienced WRs. Obviously the defense was the real big detriment to the team, but the lack of a strong run game hurt us in other places obviously like the NC State hurricane game.

He has butchered so many quarterbacks
I take grievance with one.
