How the hell do u lose your S&C coach and not have your next guy waiting to join by the end of the summer?

Seems like Freeman undervalued Balis and assumed his second in command could just take over without bothering to look for other candidates. Or maybe Swarbrick didn't let him.

This idea that ND fading is a S&C problem is nonsense.

This is 100% a coaching problem combined with a long stretch of tough games without a break.

You can have the greatest S&C program in the world, but that isn't going to change the fact that the grind is real and players wear down over the course of the season, especially when you play 8 straight weeks without a bye week.

Joe Alt didn't suddenly begin to get pushed around because of poor S&C. This team is worn out and being poorly coached. Parker has combined a maddeningly predictable scheme with a bunch of walking wounded and worn out players, and sprinkle in the stupid decision to rotate in guys on the line to blow up the continuity.

Yep. Most S&C work is done in the offseason anyway. Balis was here until August and (I'd assume/they said) they will conduct a proper search in December.
This is not a S&C problem. This is a problem of playing eight straight games - four in a row against good-to-very good teams - without a bye, overusing our starters on defense against Ohio State and running an offensive system that seems designed to make life as difficult as possible for the players who are asked to execute it.

Agree. I wouldn't mind MF giving the team a day off or have a practice without pads.

Agreed. I think frustration from fans is leading to all kinds of speculation when it comes down to the 2 things you noted. ND insisted on going to Ireland despite an 8 game stretch w/ no bye. Finishing that stretch hosting their biggest rival during mid-terms. Brilliant. Later we find out both UL & ND had an off week on the same date so they could’ve taken their respective byes this past week in prep for SC & midterms. TBF, I don’t know the mechanics of scheduling and maybe it required UL to agree as well or maybe ND is at the mercy of the ACC b/c they’re not a full member?
