That’s not accurate.
Balis has straight up said he is not comfortable with all the new, trendy methods.
I’m guessing it was time to move on. I had the trendy stuff and analytics but it works.

Seriously, guys? You can't detect that sarcasm?
I just know how stupid I am so using the sarcasm card makes me go from stupid to funny really quick… or at the very least makes me not funny but still not stupid.

It’s interesting to me how Balis went from being considered one of the most integral and impactful members of the program, lauded by former players as a major reason for their success “built by Balis”, considered one of the best S&C coaches in the country, loved by nearly every knowledgeable fan, and a key component to Brian Kellys success.

Now to some he’s replaceable and less than cutting edge bc Marcus Freeman (a guy who I support, but a guy that has accomplished absolutely nothing) might want a change.

I’m guessing it has something to do with Balis just not being Freeman’s guy. Philosophy or whatever being different and Freeman being the head just wanting to go in another direction.

I'm not sure that's an accurate representation of what's going on here.

Most people are upset about the Balis news, and the "cutting edge" stuff is just conjecture from a few posts. I mean Freeman said this in his presser:

That sounds like a more rational explanation.

Personally, it's a big loss, as I loved Balis and felt he was a difference maker. That being said, I do think this will be an attractive opening and ND will have no shortage of candidates should they wish to get an A+ replacement.

Just like their search for a new offensive coordinator this offseason.

What concerns me is if Balis ain’t the guy, does that mean they are looking for his opposite? I hope not considering his opposite would be not very good I imagine. I hope they go for similar character and method. It seems he was a pump up, loud and vocal guy that really had a big presence. Kelly competed against teams that out recruited him and was able to sustain 12-0 and 11-1 seasons with good conditioning and minimal major injuries. Freeman kept it close with Ohio State. Besides ankle injuries (and Buchner), we’ve been pretty fortunate.

MF said Balis didn't tell him what the "personal" reasons were? Come on man.

That's because someone who uses the term "personal" reasons is usually implying something outside of work. This sounds like it was directly work related. Don't know why MF would want to jump into the middle of that.

Now that it’s been discussed, I will expand on my explanation & it’s exactly what I said.

Freeman wants to move to the new stuff.
He wanted Balis to lead it.
Balis tried. He wasn’t comfortable when he tried because he felt he wasn’t able to give 100% to the players & Freeman because he wasn’t qualified in those methods.
He would have to spend time learning it & trying to implement it, which obviously takes even more time away from his family.

Bottom line.
Balis didn’t feel he could give the players & Freeman what he thought they deserved, while also losing more time with his family by trying to do so.

Could you show us where he has said that?
Short of sending you text messages from the situation, no.

Read my post just above this one.

I gave a little this morning, and I expanded on it just above.

It makes perfect sense to me.

If we see the team doing ballet with dumbbells, I think we'll have our answer on the cutting edge stuff.

On a serious note, I hate to see him go. Once he was hired, we were always the best conditioned team in the fourth quarter. Yet as others have said, there are a lot of good S&C guys out there. The biggest piece of their success is the communication and motivation because even Giddyup can tell you how to curl and press. Find another guy that can communicate and motivate and we should be fine.

Thats new. 4 years ago all the talk was how much he was into the latest tech. Again thats why his assistants were being poached, not arguing with you just what I was hearing when he was first hired on and through out his time. He is who brought in the man bra's for tracking that everyone was making fun of. I guess things changed to much and he didnt want to have to take the additional time to learn it. Whatever the case sad to see him go.

If Balis didnt "feel comfortable" at ND, he will be snapped up in short order.

What is this new fancy stuff anyway? Anyone have some examples or schools that are doing this where it actually makes a difference?

What's Reaper's source for all this?
Read what I posted before the presser.
Listen to what Freeman said during the presser, including moving to a more science-based approach, then the part he said about Balis telling him he didn’t think he could give ND what they needed anymore.
Then read my followup post when I went into more detail after the conference.
It’s pretty easy to connect the dots, but I still laid it out for everyone.
I even said Freeman wasn’t expecting it & didn’t want him to resign. Then Freeman said those exact words in his presser.

Again not arguing with you but none of that tells us your source. Is it someone in the Gug? Connecting the dots does not get us to he left because Freeman wanted to go with a more scientific approach and Balis couldn't handle it. If that is the reason why didn't Balis come to Freeman with his apprehension before just up and quitting. Freeman also said he had no idea this was coming which would indicate Balis said nothing about having issues with the new approach.

OK so this is conjecture based on your reading of the tea leaves.

Nope.
What was directly told to me yesterday.
That’s why the info I posted BEFORE the presser matched what Freemwn said & what happened.

You don’t have to believe it, or like me, or trust me, I don’t care.
The question is if it’s accurate or not.
I only post info from people I trust, who haven’t steered me wrong before, if I like it or believe it or not.
